First off, hat tip to Will, RK and Adam at Rivals. They were the ONLY ones on this, and they kept it quiet at request of the coaching staff. I got Will's permission to post this in Barzil. IT MUST STAY HERE. When we are given the ok to move it to the recruiting board, we will. But until then, it stays here. The staff does not want this going public. So if you share this info on the free board or on twitter or facebook or myspace or whatever, you're basically telling Tad Boyle "**** you". Don't tell Tad Boyle "**** you". Tad will crush you.

Everything I've heard on Yante so far is that he's got a bit of a lower ceiling than some of the other guys that CU was looking at, but that he could step in and play from day one. His AAU team played at the Peach Jam this summer, and he represented well. He put up 7.8 points, 6.2 boards and 1.5 blocks a game in only 18.2 minutes a game (more info here).

Utah seems to be the prime competition for him. They seem to want him pretty bad, he was out there last weekend. He was being recruited pretty hard by Butler and Brad Stevens before Stevens left for the Celtics, he seems to have cooled on Butler after Stevens left. One of the reasons Tad is most likely keeping this quiet is that UCLA seems to be his dream school, he lived in Southern California from ages 7-12 and has had an infatuation with them since then, we don't want Alford catching wind of this and taking a swing at him.

It looked like he was going to transfer outside of Michigan for his SR year, he even announced in mid-July that he was transferring with his coach going on the record saying that they are going to miss him dearly, something happened (it's murky to the reasoning) but he's now staying.

Tad and the whole staff showed up to watch his final game in Vegas this summer to make a statement to him that they wanted him. At the time it was believed they were there to see Kyle Kuzma, they weren't, they were there to see Yante.

I don't know two ****s about AAU, but why was he only seeing 18 min/game? Is that normal for AAU teams due to deep benches?

interesting interview:

In Tad I trust.

I don't know much about him, but I like the idea of him being able to play early. With 2014-15 being without Mayor, CU is going to have to dominate with its frontcourt play. Scott, XJ, Gordon, Thomas and Maten could make us very formidable indeed. Likely a Top 10 frontcourt.

I wonder how his defense is. PER's a decent stat, but really doesn't take much account overall defense. Still, hope CU lands him, and interesting that Tad thinks the kid will blow up if news comes about that CU is interested

Okay, I'll ask the obvious and evidently stupid question: who's making sure he doesn't tell his dream school we're interested?

My first thought.

Something fishy about this.

There are a couple of articles out there that he's been pretty quiet about his recruitment. He's not reporting offers on his mom's advice, etc. There's nothing to prevent the kid from going public with any of it, but I think the staff just wants to be sure to do their part not to advertise a priority target and potentially draw more attention to him.

How does this fit in with the Welsh/Miller visit? Seems like a lot of irons in the fire (which is a good thing).

Somebody needs to tell Jay W. Jensen to shut the hell up. Don't be telling other schools about our secret!!

I decided to go ahead and move this to the recruiting board since 247s let the cat out of the bag over a week ago by publicly reporting the 9/6 visit in his public profile there.

Obviously, he did not commit while on his visit and it remains to be seen how this will shake out with Miller and Welsh visiting next weekend.

This kid plays for the family? He's definitely legit. Even though that has already been verified by Tad's offer. They are probably the best - or at least one of the best - teams in Michigan, always have been. I remember playing against them growing up, lots of ridiculous talent on that team.

30something, that probably answers your question about why he was only getting 18 mins a game. Every kid on that team probably is good enough to play the whole game.
