Only 1 scholarship available.

I'd pay admission to see the players-only pickup basketball game that weekend as Miller & Welsh face off for the scholly.

I feel like this is a very interesting move. When Tad sits down with them privately, does he let one know they are his #1?

I'm worried the tables are turned here. I think we have some selling to do for either player and I don't think having them here at the same time is the best way to do it. Hopefully Tad makes me eat some crow and he comes away from the weekend with a verbal (I want Miller but would be pretty happy with Welsh too).

It would mean that someone unexpectedly left the program in the next couple weeks.

I thought it would mean we have another player leaving after the season. I thought we were replacing Mills and Spencer.

Next few weeks is unlikely but it is not impossible we see a Damian Cain like mid-season departure, or some end of season turn over.

Yeah. But we wouldn't know that between now and Oct 5. As it stands, Tad is making a very educated bet that Mayor will not return for his senior season.

Mayor is gone, that is more of a lock today than it was with Dre at this point last year.

You run the risk of XJ/Scott blowing up and getting a high first round grade, which would warrant them going. There are of course the less positive possibilities as well.

I don't know if them being here the same week is anything but a coincidence. Oregon is one of the best football teams in the country, and probably one of the best games to bring recruits in for. Should be a full Folsom. I'm sure they will both be aware of the other player, but it's not like Boyle is going to have them compete in a "Feats of Strength," for the open scholarship.

Would think that both players understand that you have to recruit multiple players for one scholarship, just like players have to research the different Universities available to find the best fit. Imagine Boyle and his staff has someone at #1, #2... but would think he'd take either of them, if he could convince them to make a commitment.

The top two targets for the last scholarship visiting on the same weekend is a coincidence? No, Tad is too smart for that. They'll use this to put the pressure on and hopefully have one of the two committed before they leave Boulder.

If that's the plan, it's not a good one. They both can go to a number of very good basketball programs. I doubt either are going to be pressured to make a decision, whether it be Cal, UCLA or CU.

It just doesn't seem like his style. For some reason I feel like he is recruiting both and he knows something about the numbers that we don't.

Perhaps someone (or multiple someones) is progressing and improving more than expected, and HCTB is anticipating another early entrant.

I thought we had two only schollies with Mills and Dinwiddie leaving? There could be a third. If I had to guess, it would be Stalzer since he has been recruited over and probably won't get any playing time going forward unless it is a blowout. Maybe even Talton. There is always attrition. I doubt Scott or XJ are thinking about the NBA right now since both are not on NBA radars (Scott just appeared in Draftexpress top 100 prospects though so who knows). Fun to talk about though!!

As for the two recruits;

Welsh would send a message to the Cali schools that we can compete for top level recruits in their state, and he would be the highest out of state prospect Boyle has ever landed.

Miller would be great because he is a bruiser and already has tremendous size and bulk, and the guy is just intimidating. He looks at least 30

I want both, but if I had to choose, I would prefer Miller because he is a better fit for a uptempo system, and he is already familar with Collier since both play on the same AAU team, but I would love to have a guy like Welsh too.

Dom Collier is taking Mills' scholarship I believe. Spencer is leaving early which opens a spot. Tad is looking for one of these guys to fall in love with Boulder. However, if both guys want to commit, I would guess someone is asked to transfer due to the lack of potential minutes. I wonder if using that last scholly this year and the year before was worth it.

The 2014 class within our footprint isn't all that great except for its depth at PG.

We've got a top PG and we'll add a pretty good PF or C prospect on top of that. That's fine for 2014.

The real big recruiting will be that 2015 class. Tons of talent out west and CU is in the mix for about a dozen big time prospects right now. A big year this season will set us up to sign a Top 25 class next November (Top 10 if we end up with the room to take 4 guys).

And, of course, 2016 is all about keeping De'Ron Davis home.

Which, from early accounts, is definitely in play. Tad has done some work.

The Mayor and 'Ski are the only 2 juniors this coming season; Booker will prolly stay for his senior year. Johnson, Scott, Talton, and Stalzer are sophs this year; we've already opined that XJ or Jelly might jump early, and if that does happen, it looks like 3 schollies will be open. Do you think someone else is leaving?

I don't think so, and that's why I put the possibility in parentheses. We've been very fortunate with our attrition lately being relegated to early entrees in the NBA draft or a guy who isn't getting PT deciding to graduate with eligibility left and transfer. But we'll have years with attrition due to injury, academics, behavior or normal transfer. We'll also have years when a guy decides to go pro early despite being likely to go undrafted. It's the norm in college hoops and we've been fortunate to be able to build depth the past couple years without that kind of stuff going on.

Gordon??? According to Spencer, he'll be NBA ready. "Wesley? He's a great talent. He's got the most NBA talent on the team," Colorado Buffaloes teammate Spencer Dinwiddie told me in a statement sure to raise some eyebrows.

Since the general consensus is that we will fill The Mayor's slot this year, there is only one guaranteed slot for next year, two if one of the guys that you mention go early.

I agree it doesn't sound like his style, but then, both kids just happening to end up on campus the same weekend doesn't sound right either. I really think this was a deliberate decision.

Might it be that he brings in both at the same time. They hang out with the team and maybe get visibility to the skill set that the other candidate has. Then they know if they don't commit sooner than later, there is another top prospect in the wings that might fill the one vacancy?
