No more bowl talk, please

All those threads last week made me laugh. What are people smoking? Who do we beat from here? The South is weak, but are all WAY ahead of us. UCLA plows us. UT, AZ and Cal are all improving. USC has walkons that would start for us.

Today showed us exactly where we are talent-wise vs. the rest of the conference. Which is maybe 10% better than last year.

If we had won (which was the entire argument dumbasses), bowl talk was legit. Obviously that goes out the window with a bad loss (and yes, it was a bad loss).

You come across as taking a similar route as these posters you seem to dislike. Just as a very small percentage of the few sunshine-pumpers were reading too much into the first two games, you're reading too much into this game.

I was starting to get optimistic about CU football again, but this shows that the rest of the games aren't worth watching, like last season. We are going to get blown out by all of our remaining opponents, who are all a lot better than OSU

OSU has already won at Utah. OSU isn't some crap team that is going to go 3-9 this year. Far from it.

OMG they won at UTAH?????????? In OT by 3, color me impressed. Barely beat a bad Hawaii team and should have lost to Eastern Washington

OSU will lose 4 and probably 5 more games this year. They are not that good.

You're probably right, CVille. I'm just a little steamed right now, but I think today really exposed the HUGE talent gap that still exists, one that good coaching can't fill. I just never bought into any hype after the first two games, which were nailbiters until the last couple minutes. 2-3 plays the other way, and we lose both of those.

It's a long rebuild ahead. Can't expect HCMM to work magic with mostly the same players + patchwork recruiting class. Have to just cross our fingers to get to 3 or 4 wins by season's end and then take it up another couple wins in 2014. Don't see any quick fixes unless a miraculous QB transformation takes place.

I was pretty skeptical about a bowl but I agree w/ Duff, if we had started 3-0 including beating OSU on the road and likely an "easy" home game to replace Fresno state you have 4 wins already there. Only needed 2 of 8 remaining games. But that argument is dead in the water now. Now it is just about getting better, being competitive in most games and improving recruiting.

I must say though, it appears the staff can spot winners with Awuzie, Adkins and Gillam among them.

We aren't going to a bowl, most of us said that before the season and I don't think the two wins changed a huge number of minds.

Even though today's score was similar to a lot of games last year and we got blasted the game was different and showed some real progress.

Last year opponents were trying to not to run up the score after being way ahead at the end of the half if not the first quarter. Even with our offensive ineptitude we were in the game at half. Riley was trying to run the score up all game today and we resisited. Last year this game is another Fresno.

We didn't quit. Our D did run out of gas but they fought the whole game, our O scored late as well, granted against a soft defense.

The players seemed genuinely bothered by losing. Other than the celebration on McCollochs TD I didn't see much of a who cares attitude like we would have had last year.

We have come a long way. Unfortunately the hole we were in was so deep that climbing out isn't happening fast.

The next few games are going to be hard to stomach. We will be playing teams with guys on their benches more talented than kids we are playing full time and that know how to win. Oregon State isn't a world beater but they finished last year where we can only dream of being and are likely to end up bowling again. And it now gets harder.

Oregon is a wash, but after them I only see ucla and wash. as being unwinnable (is that a word, is now!) Being full of the kool aid. The o-line didn't show to well I don't know if that's 3 weeks off or they are who they are. D-line shows bright sports with Bonsu and Chidera, maybe some new schemes can get better pressure?. LB's/Secondary were caught out of position too often, possible coaching could change that. Connor was off!!, don't know if that was just a bad day or teams have caught on to him, but he is not going to play in weather like this most of his games.

I'm not going to read too much into this game. I don't think we're as bad as this game. Lots of missed tackles, turnovers, poor communication, blown assignments. For whatever reason, some guys didn't have their heads in the game. Were not real talented and we are young. We have enough talent to make many games competitive, but need to play nearly flawless football and/or get some breaks.

Here's hoping the kids get serious and not get too down when the inevitable drubbing by Oregon happens.

Oregon State will probably win 7-8 games, so it isn't like they're a terrible team. Unfortunately, we don't really play too many bad Pac-12 teams. Conference is very talented and deep. Cal's probably our most winnable game.

It's sad because cal is going to run right past us.

Beating Hawaii 33-14 isn't "barely winning". You're making a fool of yourself arguing that Mannion with his 21 TD 2 INT isn't good and that OSU stinks. They're going to be about a 7-5 team in the brutal North. Riley's identity is firmly entrenched at OSU. No one likes to lose by 27, but this is hardly reason to denigrate our opponent and make it sound like we lost to a team that is a doormat. If you can't tolerate some serious growing pains I recommend sitting the next 2-3 years out.

A new coaching staff can fix some attitudes, do a lot of teaching, and correct some personnel snafus, but when it all shakes out this roster is still about 35% MWC, 35% Big Sky Conference, and 30% BCS level. That's not the player's faults personally, it's just a fact. Anyone who doesn't get that either doesn't watch much college football or is hopelessly starry-eyed. The right staff is on campus, but the future depends on successful recruiting. Someone on the coaching staff need to become a quick expert on "JUCO players who were qualifiers out of High School" and "JUCO players who are not P.E. or ceramics majors". There are some out there.

We suck. Period end of story. 3-9 assuming we get an extra game. And I'll be surprised we ever do much better than that again as OSU will continue to beat us out for talent after that steamrolling today. I'm coming to terms with the fact that the years I went to school and in general 1986-2001 were a complete anomaly for CU. Will never happen again. We're done. Even if we get to 7-5 in 5 years and some **** bowl, HCMM departs and we're in **** city again.
Can't keep up with the money in college football anymore and kids don't give a flying you know what about mountains.

Is any of this season all that different from what anyone really expected? CU beat the two worst teams on their schedule by a couple of TDs each, then got outplayed by a better team today. I couldn't give two ****s about how many points we lost by....we lost, to an obviously better-coached, more talented team. We MAY win another game this year, if we catch enough breaks (ie Wash St last year). Bottom line is that this is, and always has been, a 3-9 team that will not sniff a bowl game until about 2015, if then.

Hawkins and Embree dug us a huge hole, that's for sure.

They're actually in a better position then I expected. Felt they would split the first two games, especially with the bad special teams play. Special Teams still a mess, and when you throw in all the turnovers we had today, it really makes it impossible to win. We can compete with teams in this conference, but we can't be giving the opposition the ball like we did today and expect a competitive game.

Then why still watch? Ya we are done, go check out whatever fun stuff to you, don't waste time here

Hmmm ... I'd go 45-45-10. Hawaii and SDSU have almost 100% MWC-level talent (maybe a few BCS level guys at those schools) and they were at least respectable vs. OSU.

Not saying we should have kept him, but we went 5-7 in Hawkins' last year, with 3 losses by a TD or less. We'd kill for that kind of season now.

A bit misleading. We went 3-6 under Hawkins that year and then finished 2-1 with Cabral as the interim. Nobody would want what we had during the Hawkins games from that year.
