Lane Kiffin fired

Just saw that... I think I heard that they fired him on the plane.

I wish they had let it spiral out of control a bit longer, but then donors with deep pockets can probably motivate change.

Food for thought: would he be willing to accept a job as a special teams coach at CU if the position became available? He is probably one of those guys that can be a good assistant coach, but totally sucks as a head coach.

I don't find Lane Kiffin likable as a person (insomuch as I know him), which is exactly why I would support him as our special teams coach.

Why the hell are they discussing replacements? Not like any of the candidates they are looking at are going to get up and leave their jobs midseason. There will have to be a temporary replacement.

Sackman called it. Guessing they will be a bit more focused when they come to Folsom. Hoping for a hot mess though.

While I realize he needed to be fired for Haden to keep his job, I always thought that Kiffen would ride out the rest of the sanctions before they attempted to hire a big name coach. I suspect they will just have to give an offensive or defensive coordinator a temporary HC job until the season is over. Although I doubt that will stop USC from trying to throw a huge amount of cash at some coach within the next week.

ESPN was saying that Jack del Rio and Herm Edwards were the early favorites for the job.

Jack Del Rio please. He is a horrible coach plus he is lazy, won't put in the hours required to be a coach at that level. Also his teams commit lots if dumb over emotional penalties.

If we want to maintain a fantasy about upsetting SC the timing is good. Teams usually get a temporary boost after a firing but after a few week the players realize that they are playing for a coach who won't be there next year and that this year is already done or the coach wouldn't have been fired.

SC has a lot of prima dona kids who may turn into attitude or head cases by the time we get them.

So they just left him in Tempe with no bags?

I don't know how much this helps their season. A chunk of their team has already given up.

Any discussions about a replacement coach are for next year, not this year. Orgeron will likely be named the interim coach (if he hasn't already) for the remainder of this season.
