Worst team to grace Folsom Field in 20+ years? Even when we play DIAA teams there's always a couple guys who stand out that make me say, "He could play for CU." No one stood out for them at all. They were tiny too

Other than our own?

I remember New Mexico State in '05 and Miami(OH) in '07 being pretty bad.

Can't speak to the years before I was a student.

There are claims they kept some of their better players on the bench - saving them for their playoff run. They are undefeated in their conference and this game had little to no value for them. Makes sense, but really sucks if true

that's weird if true. chance to give the program some national exposure to beat a BCS team and proud program. that's how i would think but i see the playoff logic i s'pose.

we are not very big either. i have either lived close to (Athens Court) or walked up the hill by the Dal/practice fields almost every day to the Rec for over a decade and i see our guys going to practice. Barney's guys looked like d-1 football players. lately we look like oversized good HS players or a strong intramural flag team that has the benefit of workout regimen....

recruiting, recruiting, recruiting.

bless our guys and the effort but we aren't very big or fast compared to better teams for too long....

The value for them was a 400K payday

SCOOOP

I think you meant to say they're a mediocre FCS team with some pretty significant injuries (Will Hunt, Malcolm Dixon, Daniel Crogan III). On top of that, Ben Robinson, their 2nd leading rusher among RBs, was suspended for violating team rules.

Otherwise, their participant chart from yesterday's game looks very similar to that of their game 2 weeks ago (Missing 3 defensive players, one of which has 4 tackles this season).

All this just makes me think ... Has a 33-point win ever felt less impressive?

I know we want to establish a run game, I get that. But we know we're gonna have to throw it A LOT in the rest of our games. So I'd like to have seen 10-15 more passing plays yesterday to get Sefo dialed in more. He looked okay but our line still didn't give him time on several plays, even against a vastly undersized DL.

And too many WR screens. He gets wrapped up right away, stood up and gang tackled and I wince every time worrying about his knee.

We need to get it to DD more, too.

Not sure how it looked on TV, but I was very impressed with Sefo arm strength. I agree they will need to throw it more and as was said in another thread, I think coaches were looking to establish run and hold back some playbook for AZ.

Betcha DD does see it more agains AZ also....

Disagree a little Slider. They wore down eventually, but it was only 22-10 at the half. There were worse OOC teams at Folsom in the old days IMO.

Who gives a ****.

When you've been as bad as we have been for as long as we have, a win is a win is win.

how about we just thank them for taking the game?

After the game, the entire CU squad went to mid field and shook hands with the Charleston players. Typically, a bunch will just run off the field. Not this time. You could tell there was a deep appreciation for the fact that they came out here on such short notice.

yep, that is awesome. they took this game and maybe will give us some hope (although slight) in November. we haven't had hope in November in years.

Agreed. (Then) NE Louisiana, Minnesota, NM State, to name a few. Charleston Southern appeared to be better than 2006 Montana State to me, as well. Pre-Snyder K-State was execrable.

Drake was pretty bad, too. pretty lousy san jose state team in the early Barney seasons....maybe 01.

my hat is off to Charlietown Southern....they did us a solid.

i hope they win out.

Same Drake team that beat us 2 years in a row?

as small and slow as they looked, I am glad they played us. CU needed that after three huge beat downs and heading towards more. The chance for our boys to taste victory, especially at home, is well deserved. These kids have been through a lot and will get their asses handed to them a lot more. Let them enjoy a win. Maybe these little victories will spark something in the team where they can visualize themselves winning more? That would be a good thing.
