The Buffs soccer team (11-3-1 overall, 3-2-1 Pac-12) will be back in action today for the beginning of their final home weekend of the season when they face off against USC (6-7-2 overall, 1-4-1 Pac-12) at 3pm MT. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Today's game is the Breast Cancer Awareness Game and the first 500 fans to arrive will receive a FREE pink CU rally towel! Here is a short preview of the match from cubuffs.com:

COLORADO VS. USC: The Trojans hold a 3-1 series lead over the Buffs with neutral ground wins in 2000 and 2005 and a 1-0 victory at Prentup Field in 2011. Last season, an extremely close game led to a double overtime thriller. Amy Barczuk hit the game-winner in the 105th minute off an assist from Anne Stuller to give the Buffs the 1-0 victory in Los Angeles.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS: The Trojans opened their season on a four-game unbeaten streak and spent five games ranked in the top 25. A four-game losing streak to conclude non-conference and begin Pac-12 Conference play hurt their record (they currently sit at 6-7-2 overall, 1-4-1 Pac-12), but back-to-back road games showed USC can’t be counted out. The Trojans tied then-No. 8 California after junior Alex Quincey evened the score in the 78th minute. In their next match, Quincey and the Trojans were at it again, this time toppling No. 5 Stanford. In the 59th minute, Quincey knocked in the game-winner to give the Trojans their first win over Stanford since 2005. Nine Trojans have scored at least two goals this season, led by senior Elizabeth Eddy with five. Freshman Kayla Mills also impresses, with three goals and seven assists. USC leads the conference in corner kicks, taking 97 to its opponents’ 55. In the net, junior Caroline Stanley has grabbed 57 saves, allowed 16 goals and recorded two shutouts.

Alyssa Herwatt scores her 1st of the year to put the Buffs up 2-0.

USC ended up scoring at the 88 minute mark, but the Buffs held on to win 2-1.

That's huge for making the NCAAs.

Could we win the PAC-12 if we beat UCLA on Sunday?

That's huge for making the NCAAs.

Could we win the PAC-12 if we beat UCLA on Sunday?

Sure it's possible except UCLA's last three games are against 3 of the bottom 4 teams in the PAC. So unlikely but possible.

Had to get this win. Major game against UCLA coming up.

Absolutely. CU must continue to defeat the teams below them in the standings to put themselves in position to make the NCAA tourney. Thus this was a very important win.

Utah and UCLA tied today. But don't count on the Buffs winning in Boulder on Sunday. Still, CU's in good position - in my estimation just two more wins and they'll have a good resume for the tourney. Unfortunately, the final three matches are on the road.
