Let me start by saying I absolutely love our team. The job Boyle & Co. have done in Boulder is amazing. We have great talent at PG - Dinwiddie/Hopkins, SF - Johnson/Fletcher, PF - Gordon/Thomas, and C - Scott. As you can see I left out SG. It's not that I don't like Booker, I really do. I think he has been great for us and will turn his shooting around from his (7/22) start. I simply want to know when everyone thinks we are going to land that next pure shooting guard and who it will be. Any in the '15 class? I really believe that is what we are missing. Thoughts?

Rex Pfluegger is usually regarded as the best shooter that CU is after (that I know of). Won't be easy to get his signature tho.

I'd imagine that Fletcher or Hopkins have a decent chance to be starting at SG by next year. Probably the next 2, regardless of who CU brings in

Love the team too. Think they could really make some noise this year. A lot of shooting guards have a tendency to be streaky and I see Ski in this mold. Hopefully he will regain his stroke soon because he really is a good kid and a fine young player. He finds his touch and you could see several tight games where he ends up putting a dagger in the heart of the other team because they are playing under the basket to try and stop our kids up front from an easy basket. I think we have a chance to have one of the better front courts in the nation based on early returns.

Hopkins a shooting guard? Uh no.

Positions no longer matter in college bball. There was a line-up of Dinwiddie, XJ, fletcher, king and Hopkins last night. You tell me what position each of them were playing. We were switching 1-4 positions on D last night.

I'm not sure a lineup like that will work against a team like UCLA or zona.

At this point, I'm not sure it's a streak. I hope I'm wrong, but when was the last time ski had a great game shooting the ball?

Totally fair and agree with you, it won't always work - but i wouldn't be shocked to see if for a few minutes against an Arizona or especailly UCLA with their lack of ball handlers if we are running the run and jump press.

I hope you are wrong too. I can't immediately recall a game where he had a great night shooting the ball. It is good we have plenty of others who can score, but we at least need him as a threat. I hope he can pick it up.

I wouldn't pass on a shooter if we can get him, but I would like another big in '15. While I think Thomas already has the ability to create mismatches on O I worry he's a tweener on D. Admittedly, I'm saying this after only watching the bailer game and most teams won''t have their size.

NCAA 2013. Colorado vs Illinois. He was the whole reason we took the lead in the second half.

I would like to see Thomas as a shooting guard. I only saw him play on Sunday but he has a real nice shot. Match up problems would be fun to watch as well.

Well he spent part of the game guarding their center. He is a super versatile player who can stretch the defense when their big man has to guard him on the perimeter, which leaves the middle open for our slashers, but he needs and inside/outside game for that to happen.

Eli needs to shoot 500 corner 3's every day after practice.

Seriously.

Eli needs to be able to do 4 things to be a very useful player for us:

1. Reliable as a 3rd ball handler on the court.
2. High percentage FT shooting for end-game scenarios.
3. Aggressive, fundamentally-sound defense (help and on-ball).
4. Knock down open 3 pointers when the ball kicks out to him.

And I really think he will be that player by the time he leaves CU. I just don't think we'll see much of it this year.

Exactly. I'd argue that positions as far this thread's original post states never really mattered exactly. Bball is just about putting your best five out on the court that gives you the best chance to win. Whether that's three "point guards" or three "power forwards", it doesn't really matter. It just sort of happens that often, the best mix is a 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (or another 4 these days). I think the better way to view players is wing and post, and then what particular skills they bring. I personally am excited about what Tad has, and I completely think Hopkins can be put on the court with another point guard.
