DENVER – The University of Colorado soccer team finally tasted victory over No. 15 and fourth-seeded Denver when it was most important – in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.

With less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, senior standout Anne Stuller netted the game-winner to give the Buffs’ the 1-0 victory.

In Stuller and her fellow seniors’ time at CU, the Buffs had never gotten a win over their in-state rival Denver. That changed Saturday in front of a crowd of 1,394 at Denver’s CIBER Field. In just their third win in Denver, the Buffs reclaim the slight series edge over the Pioneers, 9-8-1. The Buffs are now a perfect 2-0 against the Pioneers in NCAA play.

Virginia is the favorite to win it all. Won every single regular season game (yes, they never even had a draw). Lost one in the ACC Tournament to #6 Virginia Tech.

It's a major upset if the champion doesn't come from the ACC this year. UCLA could crash that party, though.

I kind of feel like CU is playing with house money right now. Improved squad that did very well to make the tourney. Never thought we'd advance. A trip to the Sweet 16 would be amazing.

UCLA appears to be the main threat to Virginia, but it's just ridiculous what the ACC offers this year: #1, 3, 4 and 5 are all ACC teams.

FWIW, BYU is ranked #19. I'll take playing BYU over an ACC, B1G or SEC team though. Sweet 16 would be a hell of an accomplishment and provide a major recruiting selling point (not that they don't have a lot to show recruits already).

The crowd that was left cheered pretty loud when the score was displayed on the scoreboard
