Facilities and recruiting

I am appreciative that we have two excellent coaches running the programs but does anyone think that it is a coinicence that both men's and women's basketball are getting mulitple commits from top 100 type players, the kind you need to have to be a player on the national scene, and the building of the new B facility.

Kids look at a lot of different things but facilities send a big message about how serious you are about winning.

We have got to get dirt moving on football facilities and soon.

The facilities didn't deliver Top 100 guys. What they did do is make it possible to sell the program to some Top 150 (or Top 30 in CA or TX) guys who had talent but were being slow-played by the powerhouse programs. It was winning in addition to the new facilities that has us poised to compete for the best talent in the West with our 2015 classes.

The facilities didn't deliver anyone but we have over the past few years started to bring in guys who are in the top 100 or not to far outside it. WBB is recruiting at a higher level than it has in years.

The ones who brought those players in are the coaches but you can't tell me that the commitment shown by the new facilities didn't make it easier to bring those guys in.

We wouldn't have gotten them if they didn't believe in the coaches, believe they were coming someplace they could win. The facilities make that selling job easier.

When our football recruits come on campus they see one of the most spectacular campuses in the country. M2 has a history of building a winning team. At the same time other schools can ask them to think about how serious Colorado is about football when the last significant football improvements other than schoreboards were years ago.

We're not disagreeing. But I'm telling you that there are a ton of great prospects out there in the mid- to high 3* range that are the next level up. In the last 3 recruiting classes for men's hoops, we have signed a grand total of 3 guys that the powerhouse programs typically recruit -- Scott, XJ and Dom. That's it. We haven't really gone head-to-head with Arizona or UCLA for a recruit they had as a "Plan A" guy and won the battle. In fact, we've lost our battles with Oregon and Cal on the recruiting trail. Facilities have been vital to the rise we've seen, but they're only a piece to the puzzle - not a panacea.

Whatever your baseline is due to record, location, coach, academics, campus life, etc. - facilities will either support your prestige level with recruits, downgrade it, or upgrade it. The upgrade or downgrade is only to get your foot in the door a level above where you are but if you're a middleweight program it's not going to have you punching with the heavyweights overnight.

I post this as a huge believer in facilities as I believe it has been something that has held us back in football in terms of recruiting, fan support, booster support and media support.

We are in agreement.

I just am convinced that if we are going to see a significant improvement in football we need to see a significant improvement in recruiting. With the kind of recruits we want having plenty of options we need to not let facilities be an excuse for them to go elsewhere.

The football facilities including Folsom are a joke!.. In disrepair... Against USC the players ( and band) we're walking through ankle deep mud to and from the practice bubble joke we have

Who needs top facilities?

I mean, Balboa beat Drago by training with ropes, carts, rocks and his legs. I mean honestly, if you have a body, you own a gym. Who needs a bunch of shiny goddamn equipment! The rusted out junk the Buffs have builds character!
