YUP!!!!!! Amazing. Looks like Pac got 9 teams in. Buffs go to Minnesota and play Iowa State in round 1. I'm still in shock that they made it .... but now that they are there GO BUFFS!!!!!!!!!!!

Just saw the official bracket ( http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/volleyball-women/d1 ), and they ARE in. Congrats to the Buffs for this reward for all the hard work the players and coaches have, I'm sure, put in.

Looks like they'll be playing Iowa State on December 7th!!!
CORRECTION/ EDIT- We're actually playing Iowa StateDecember 6th (at 3:30 MT). (December 7th is the 2nd round game.)

Looks like CU was one of the last few in and that the committee left out a few schools with weaker resumes but higher RPI's .... Butler, Tulsa did not get in but CU and ASU did.

Didn't think that the Buffs were in, but definitely a good surprise.

Holy ****. I think that win against Washington made the difference, but I didn't think they'd make it. The girls have said since last summer their goal was the tournament. Congratulations to our Buffs!

Now they need a new goal... beating Iowa State would be a good thing.

For history nerds- Looking at the VBall NCAA record ( http://www.cubuffs.com/fls/600/volleyball/2013_Info_Guide/74_ncaa_tournament.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=600 ), looks like we were a mainstay in the tournament through 2006, making it every year except for 1990 and 2002 from 1989-2006 (16 appearances overall based on my count even though the guide says 15). Hopefully we get back to a point where that consistency is there, and we can sustain the continued improvement we've shown over the last couple years to make serious noise against the top teams. (From the guide linked to above, looks like we lost in the Sweet 16 one time and in the round of 32 (2nd round) 7 times, with the other 8 times being 1st round losses.)

Yes, CU VB was once an NCAA mainstay and even hosted rounds 1 & 2 here at Coors several times (if memory serves). In fact, one year we were a dark horse candidate to make the final 4 but our best outside hitter pulled an abdominal muscle shortly before the tourney and that is a killer injury for a spiker.

Maybe the NCAA is making it up to us for the diss they gave men's basketball a couple of years ago.

Looking at Iowa State's season, looks like they were #22 in RPI as of the last NCAA posted ranking (11/25), while we were #54 in RPI. They also were at #25 in the coaches poll as of 11/25. (They did lose to unranked and non-tournament team K State the last game of the regular season, so those rankings may go down a little if/ when the next rankings come out.)

Eyeballing their schedule, looks like their best victory was over RPI #12/ #21 coach's poll Kansas at Kansas, although Kansas later beat them at Iowa State's home court. Looking at common opponents, they swept Baylor 3-0 twice (we also swept them once, and yes that's ******* Bailer), and they lost 3-1 to St. Marys in a neutral court (we split two matches against St. Marys at the Keg).

We have yet to lose on a neutral court. I think Iowa State is a winnable match.

Oh, and if we want to BOO the CSU Rams a little bit (although they have a GOOD volleyball program we will be lucky to equal in 2-3 years), I wonder if we might have been able to get a game or two in Fort Collins if they hadn't lost their 1st match of the year in the 2nd to LAST match of the season (to my alma mater SDSU), thus losing any chance at getting a seed for the tournament.

Doubt it mattered. Even before CSU lost to SDSU, their RPI was only 20 and that put them in a position where they were unlikely to get a host slot since those go to the top 16 teams (the only ones that are seeded in the Volleyball NCAA world). There were just too many not-very-good teams in the MWC this season for the Rams to have a top RPI unless they really loaded up for their non conference schedule

All academic of course at this point, but I don't think it was a sure thing one way or the other that CSU would or wouldn't have received a seed/ home court game or two: In addition to the feeling I get that people don't like to under-value undefeated teams so give them a little extra benefit of the doubt (looks like Ohio State, in spite of playing what most consider is a relatively lame schedule, is going to benefit from this in football unless they lose in their conference championship game), when I look back at the 11/25 ratings, CSU was #13 in one of the other ratings the selection committee evidently uses (something called Pablo's???). In addition, although it doesn't seem to matter much, they were #9 in the main volleyball "popularity poll" (AVCA Coaches poll). Again, this is of course all meaningless now, and the main thing is GO BUFFS!!!!!

I'm making a road trip to Minneapolis. Won't get to see the women's basketball team play, so I'm going to Minneapolis to see the volleyball team. Can't wait to cheer for a Buff team in person.

I think it was the 3-0 victory over Washington that got them off the bubble.

Also, the loss to St. Mary's was the first match of the season. We've come a long way since then.

I definitely think that we can beat Iowa State. With the differences in conference strength 18-9 for a team in the Big12 is probably about the same as 17-13 for a Pac12 team.

The Big 12 is no where near the conference for volleyball from top to bottom that the Pac 12 is.

I guess I will find out how Iowa State travels for a 4:30 PM volleyball match. They travel well for both basketball teams and football.

I wonder how many of them will show up for this match. By looking at their message board, they're not even talking about the Buffs. They're already looking ahead to Minnesota.

There will be free video of the match if I am reading the Minnesota web site right
