Radio 1190's Call Of The Final Shot Vs. KU

Don't know what the foul thing was all about. But this is awesome.
Edit: Is he talking about the Mayor getting shoved?

Like him as an announcer, wish he'd keep his religious thoughts to himself social media-wise or create a separate personal account.

Agreed.

Dave Plati needs to learn this lesson as well regarding his politics on social media.

For whatever reason, politics doesn't bother me as much but unless your job is politically or religiously based, best to avoid it in the public forum. I know Plati has mentioned how he's Republican and doesn't like some of the sterotypes. If I go to cubuffs.com or Mark Johnson's Twitter account, last thing I want to hear about how you are Republican or today's sermon. I come to get sports news. If he kept to Merry Christmas, wouldn't bother me in the least.

Again, I'm not sure how familiar you Johnson haters are with other college broadcasts. The alternative is the good ole boy alum homer that is terrible at broadcasting. Johnson is far from perfect, I get it, but there are much worse out there.

Not a reason to keep him IMO. KOA needs to do a cooperative effort with the University for a degree program that would have students running the entire show utilizing mentors/instructors from KOA. KOA could still keep the advertising sales.

Our students are talented but not sure that's the way to go. JMHO.

Great freaking call, but in my opinion....

That was THE BIGGEST shot in Colorado basketball history, not "one of the". Someone in another thread compared this game to the 20-10 vs. Nebraska in 1986 - I might say 26-21 vs. Nebraska in 1988. Either way this game has the same significance for the basketball program as those two did for football.

I put the Ski 3 on par with Soupy Campbell's punt return or the Hagan to Flannigan pitch in the other two games as far as importance to a program's "arrival."

But again, an awesome listen (better than the ESPiN KU knobber slobbers) and they have a future in sports broadcasting.

The color guy needs to shut the hell up. As for the PxP guy, it's a solid call but for such a huge moment, he's worried about too many details not related to where the ball is. If he calmed down and simplified it would be a great call. That's probably just a matter of experience.

Student broadcasters on the air for a professional station in a major market doing power-5 conference play by play is crazy. Most guys who do it professionally don't get that opportunity ever.

Just went to the website - 1190 appears to be the student run station on campus. Regardless, great call.

Johnson has a great voice and is passionate. I haven't listened to him a ton and don't follow his twitter account so was unaware of the extra baggage. I love hearing him call games.

I don't get it either.

A) It's radio
B) he actually follows the team and the conference, he may not have Jay Bilas hoops knowledge, but if he did he wouldn't be on KOA
C) Maybe he has too many cliches but that's the old radio game
D) If you don't like his twitter account, don't follow him. He cites a couple quotes first thing in the morning than nothing else, he isn't representing KOA, it's his twitter account.
