PG next year?

Since Hopkins has made some starts this year and gets the most minutes from among the true freshmen, I'd say he's the leader in the clubhouse right now. He needs to step things up or he'll leave the door open, though.

How about Ski? Seems like Hopkins has been playing more SG than PG. I also may not have noticed Hopkins at PG if he has been filling that role in the games.

I think Ski becomes the PG next year. He will be our Nate Tomlinson at that point, with fewer bad Nate moments.

Who is expected to take over for the Mayor next year? Hopkins? Collier?

Collier. From Higgins and Tomlinson to Dinwiddie, Tad seems to prefer intellectual point guards. Collier is the most likely successor ... if he is ready.

I think it will be Hop, with Dom coming off the bench. Ski will stay at the 2, but is capable of bringing the ball up on some possessions like he has always done. Hop is not a shooting guard and Ski is not a point guard. Wouldn't make sense to switch them.

Talton could be a factor as well, depending on how he shows up in conference play this season. He could be the place holder until Collier is fully ready when conference play rolls around next year---as they say, after the first semester of college ball, you're no longer a freshman.

Eek. If his minutes don't continue to go down then Hop and or Dom are disappointing.

I would think it's Talton to start the year, then Collier takes over. I'm not sure how others feel about it, but it worries me a bit to have two short guards starting. Spencer's height makes up for Ski being a short 2 for defensive matchups. We won't have that next year unless it's Hopkins at the point, but I have trouble envisioning him as a PG.

I think it'll be a rotation of sorts. Depending on what kind of lineup Tad wants in the game at any particular time, we could see Talton, Hop, Ski or Dom at PG. As the year rolls on, one or two guys will end up seeing the majority of minutes at PG. By the time the 2015-16 season comes around, I think it's Dom's job to lose.

Unless Talton improves a lot between now and November there's no reason why he should start. He has been awful this year.

???

I don't think he's been awful at all. Maybe the numbers tell a different story, but from a purely observational standpoint, I think he's done pretty well.

Collier has grown. He's 6'4" (or a bit over) now. He needs to add bulk & strength, but that's going to be hard to do until he stops growing.

The numbers do indeed tell a different story

ORtg - 96.2 (eight players higher on the team)
eFG% - 43.5% (nine players higher on the team)
TS% - 46.7% (nine players higher on the team)
TORate - 23.9 (higher than eight players on the team)
3Pt% - 28.6% (6 for 21)
2Pt% - 44.0% (11 for 25 - nine players higher on the team)

Those only include the 11 contributors (not including Gamble, Mills, Staltzer, etc.)

Talton's had a couple good games. I think he's going to be a reliable guy who plays solid defense, keeps improving his handle, gets the offense running and occasionally knocks down a 3 or gets to the rim. But I'm having trouble envisioning him as a starter.

I don't envision Talton ever starting, but I think he can become a good backup his junior/senior year. He is much better compared to last year, which isn't saying much.

I hope he continues to work on his shot and handles, especially his shot. That will really help the team if he can become a better 3pt shooter with all the slashers on this team.

Can't argue with those numbers. I guess I never really felt like we were that much worse when he was in the game. He always seemed like a guy who could provide a change of pace and not make too many mistakes. I must have not been paying close enough attention.

What are Ski's numbers for those same stats? I'm just curious as I don't have access to those numbers.

Also - would like to see the 4 young guys numbers. Their inconsistency has been noted in recent write-ups, which is not unexpected. But really I can't say any one of them has shown a decisive edge. How does that compare to what Spencer and Ski or even XJ showed in their frosh years?

I typo'd the ORtg - he's 3rd worst. King is the worst followed by Thomas than Talton.

Wow, I had no idea Dom grew that much. That's fantastic and it will really help the team to have that height at PG.

I think we'll primarily see Dom, Hop and Ski rotate through the two guard positions. I'm not sure who starts, but I'd expect Dom to play the point the majority of the time he's in the game, with Ski and Hop sharing ball handling duties as well. I doubt XT sees a lot of time next year.
