Mike Bohn to head UC AD

Moved from '15 recruiting thread.

He'll be a strong AD for UC. That's a bball school and he's shown he can lead the BB part of a university.

I'm also glad that it shows that CU isn't the "death knell" for ADs and coaches.

It's funny to me how he's being touted as this great basketball mind. Don't get me wrong, I give him credit for what he did here. Sure it took Bzdelik using his leverage to get the practice facility. Still, I'm a results oriented person and CU was profitable in men's basketball under his reign. And he might have gotten somewhat lucky with Tad. Although, I don't think it's as much of a coincidence as some think it is after reading that he attended a Northern Colorado game and decided he'd go after Tad if Bzdelik ever left.

But his background was as a graduate assistant football coach at Ohio U and working as Director of Marketing for the College Football Association in addition to other athletic administration posts. There's nothing previously which indicates a strong basketball background. I don't recall when he was hired at CU anyone thinking, now basketball is going to get better since we're getting Mike Bohn.

Probably made some connections during the whole food cart affair.
Looking around Twitter, some Cincy people have made that connection. I even saw someone suggest that's why he was fired because he "mishandled" it. That didn't help him, but losing someone to Tennessee isn't a huge deal. He wasn't fired for one thing anyways.

Wish him well, it's late and my mind is slow, but Cincy is not in a good position from the realignments. Granted they've largely passed by and there's no fault that will fall at Bohn's feet, but that's a tough situation about to get even worse with Louisville ACC bound next year.

Obviously getting to a major conference will be his priority. I don't know too much about Cincy, but their basketball program is in much better shape. Doesn't mean he can't try to improve it. Making it more of a destination in terms of football will be something since both times they've had success recently, the coach has left. I know they're renovating the stadium.

Yeah, not exactly sure what the options are. Big 12 sounds like the best possibility, but even that doesn't appear to be great. Maybe it isn't really a priority since it seems so unrealistic.

I guess the football stadium renovations are his top priority. And developing a short-list for football head coaches in the event Tommy Tuberville leaves. Both football/men's basketball appear to be in good shape for the time being.

I would think Cincinnati would want to get in the Big XII....wonder if Bohn has the connections to do that since he led Colorado out of the Big XII

Even if he still has connections to the B12, I doubt that they (B12) have such a short memory of what almost happened to their conference after the Buffs and Butthuskers left. Bohn may have left a bitter taste in the B12's mouth.

Mike was pretty good to us over his tenure. His touch was generally a positive on all the sports but football. The rest of it is rumor. I'm thankful he got us into the PAC 12 and and away from the Texas 10.

You left out missouri and texas a&m too. But I agree. And who would really want to go back to the conference with Texas math?

Kind of what I was thinking...but then you look at it and our basketball team played some pretty good games against Big XII opponents this season so maybe he did it the right way and bridges weren't burned

I have to think they brought him in because of the conference move. Good luck to Mike. I had the fortune to get to know him a little bit while I attended CU and he is a great guy. Unfortunately he got stuck with some bad circumstances here.

Seems like a good fit. They are desperate for the exact thing he accomplished here. I wish him well. If not for the Hawk extension, I would not have ill feelings for the man. Certainly he was at the helm when the pack came calling and he didn't screw that up. He also kept out of the way and allowed the ski and cross country teams to stay great. These are things that are near and dear to me, and for that I am thankful to him.

Cincy is pretty much a done deal for the Big 12.

Bohn's going to come out of this looking like a conference realignment specialist AD.

Next stop: Fort Collins

Nice guy and all.... but he sucked. We're in a giant hole due to him.

I think "sucked" is too strong, Mike had his short comings but he was an upgrade from what came before him and he got butts in the seats, helped makes basketball successful and got us to the Pac-12.

MM was his last choice and not even contacted until post food cart. Credit for the PAC 12 which is a huge feather. Funding... ICK! Best of luck to him though. Onward and upward.

Agreed on MM i think he swung for Jones trying to save his own bacon with a splashy hire, when that didnt work we should have seen the writing on the wall.

I suspect Bohn was in a rough spot. DiStephano didn't exactly prioritize championships over balanced and frugal budgets, and there was some leadership dysfunction with the Hawkins dismissal that isn't all on Bohn.

Meh. If his one crown jewel is basketball I can give him credit for that. I think any other AD could have us in the Pac-12 right now. His problem is he couldn't find a good football coach if one was sitting on his lap. 3 schools and 5 coaches, none of which had anything close to winning records. How many other AD's extend a HC in the middle of the season? After 5 total wins? Then hires Embree. Then has his hands so far down Jones' pants for 3 days that we end up hiring a HC that they didn't even interview in person iirc. Fail. So yes, he sucked. IMO.
