Get out your crystal balls (unless you happen to have named your nuts "crystal").

3 years from now, how to you think we'll rate the 2014 class?

Were the scouting sites right? Or did MacIntyre out-work & out-evaluate to get over on the conventional wisdom? Maybe something in between?

I think we are going to have way less attrition than in previous years. I think we have several diamond in the rough like Terran and underrated players like Dylan who I think is going to be a total stud. I also think HCMM&Co are better than average at coaching up talent. I think we filled some big holes and started to get key depth for the first time in many years.

In short, this is a good foundation. Like everyone else, I'd love to have more studs in this class and wish we hadn't lost Dotson and Rodriguez but we're good. And we got some real athletic guys who are going to contribute right away like Fields and Walker. I am happy with this class as a foundation for the future and believe that next year's class will be objectively more higher rated than this year's.

I've got to base it on, with apologies to the Duffster, how I think this staff will develop them. I think this staff will coach these kids to reach maximum potential. So, there I go again, putting faith in our coaching staff.

Count me in the hopeful and positive crowd. Plus, they simply need to out perform expectations for things to turn around.

I think the class will be about on par with the ratings, maybe a little better compared to other classes in the conference. For me that means we will be able to win at least 6 games when we have to count on these players. And right now, I'll take that.

Better than rated. Especially in the area of attrition which has really hurt CU in the recent past. Hell, it could be on par with projections and appear or feel better than the projections if we cut down the attrtion levels and start to build some depth

The class will be on par with ratings, and the Buffs will not win 6 games next year IMO. We can't count on true Frosh at developmental types of positions. It's all about OLs, DLs and DBs, and that's a ways off.

You don't like our DBs in 2014?

I think Witherspoon and White are going to be very solid Buffs, I just don't know how they'll do as first year players in P12. W'spoon has big upside. Jury is out on Crawley, Wright et al. What would be a good enough D-Backfield in some conferences will struggle early in P12. Lotta good passing games that always seem to be improving.

Poll question isn't about next year, it is about 3 years from now. A number of these players will be playing next year but only because we don't have better options, not because they are ready.

Given their ratings it'd be easy to outperform expectations.

However, I voted they would perform at level of expectations. We aren't going to be winning 9 games with this set, unless someone like Fields becomes the next Prich and we have a stud at QB in Aspay.

What will help is that I don't see the headcases that will get kicked off of the team or flunk out. A better than Hawk and Embree type class, but not a 9 win team with these guys as upperclassmen.

This class will perform slightly above the ratings.

Where we stand three years will largely depend on difference makers added in the next couple classes.

You're right. Well, 3 years out is impossible to tell. 3 years is a lifetime with CU. Back to current DBs, if that's where Nik was going, I think Henderson and Bell are OK, but again, in this conference pass D is critical and OK isn't good enough. IMO to be a constant .500 team in conference games, every 3* needs to be a 4* and half the 2*s need to be 3s. Stars aside, we need to be in the 40s nationally and not the 70s. The "coaching up" meme is cool, but has a lot of wishful thinking in it.

Mtn was right about the thread direction. But with my response to you earlier, yeah, I was thinking that you were saying that DBs were a weakness on the 2014 roster. I think CU has a deep, talented and veteran group that could be special if they can get something close to an average pass rush in front of them this year. Because of that, I don't think that DB recruiting was a huge priority and guys like Sanchez will be able to redshirt. Probably White, too.

True, a decent pass rush sure would help things. With the past few years' of Buff D overall, isolating the most pressing problems is an exercise in crisis management. If we'd have snagged Ballage, I'd have been tempted to play him as an OLB or a Safety rather than on offense.

Well, we finished 11th on the field and 10th in recruiting (on rivals, rest of the services had us 12th) so.. in 3 years can we finish higher than that? I sure as hell hope so :sad1:

We aren't great at CB but I think we are at least decent going into next year. I am very worried about safety though. Bell did pretty well there last year and a couple of the true fr. saw time but we are small, young, and playing in a league where mistakes in the back end often end up in the end zone.

Our DBs made a lot of plays for us last year. We lost Orms. Everyone else gets a year older (Bell, Crawley, Hendo, Awuzie, Tedric, Hall, Walker & Mosley). Then we add Yuri, Terrel and Moten as vets coming off redshirts. Finally, we bring in Witherspoon as a JUCO transfer and maybe get a bump from one or more of the freshman recruits.

I like our secondary. If every position group looked like that I'd be predicting a bowl game.

Depending on how Mosley does this offseason, I would say we are the biggest at safety we have been in years. Terrel Smith is an outlier, but there has been a lot of size added here including Thompson, White, and Sanchez.

I respect your optimism. Watching Awuzie develop will be interesting. Was never a big Orms fan, except for his hustle.

I am hoping that Mosley can help us out back there, it would make a big difference if he can come back healthy and as you say he has some size, he is also a pretty intelligent football player.

If Terrell is playing any significant time other than special teams we are in trouble.

2014: Solid athletic class, multiple sport stars which Mac prefers, improved coaching and recruiting from this staff. Outperform

To this point I view last years class as a success with upside to further raise that opine.

Staff more effective. Vision matters.

agree with this post but on a much less scholarly level. would not use opine.

After watching the tapes of Mathewes and Hasselbach, I think they could both be very capable pass rushers. Especially Mathewes, he is very impressive coming off the edge.

It's a verb.

The level of talent on the field still may not be stellar, but it may turn out to be a surprising case of the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts. At least that's what I'm hoping for - the O-line is still the biggest question mark for me. As Duff likes to say - future recruits should bring a higher level of raw talent, as MacIntyre's plan builds on itself.

The class should far out perform its rank. We are ranked 72 by Scout.
I have a lot of faith that this staff will get the best out if these guys. Attrition has hurt us more than anything since Hawkins. That should not be a problem with this group. This class should make a solid foundation for the Buffs. It will take more stars in the next two classes to get us beyond middle to the pac12. This group will get us started.
Really like most all of these guys on film. Especially fields, kenney, white, Mathews, franke and lee.

I think it will well out-perform but with one caveat, we need to build on teh success S&C had this year for keeping guys on the field.
