Only 2 poll options, because you're not allowed to be ambivalent or have mixed feelings about Walton. I love him and think he's the best in the biz. But I know some of you fascists hate him.

Don't let Bill Walton drink alone at this year's Pac-12 tourney in Vegas.

I have mixed feelings. He's entertaining up to a point, and he absolutely knows his hoops, but his schtick can get irritating when the game is close and he's still free associating about Eugene McCarthy, the Dead's 79 show at Golden Gate Park and Pearl Street...

I like my sports broadcasters to bring 2 things:

1. Entertain me
2. Educate me

Walton makes it fun while not dumbing down the basketball stuff. He also does his homework on the players.

And as I've said before, if there's ever a rain delay during a basketball game I pray that Walton is doing the broadcast. :smile2:

The Wizards had one last month when the roof leaked.

"Love" and "Hate" are the only options -- binary much?

Regarding the article, I saw the Blue Man group at the half time show at a Big 10 (back when there were only 11) tournament game -- Luke needs to explain why it's not appropriate to take mushrooms in.

I have exceptions to the rule, but in general, old Deadheads who grew up and get jobs, but retain good music taste, are cool with me. :hippie:

It's much easier to take in when when it's a game we win, like @ Stanford last season. It gets a bit much when he's at UCLA and we're losing.

I liked him until last night. He should never be able to do a UCLA game... too much of a homer with them.

Love him

I agree with the homerism complaint wrt UCLA but I think he's a homer because he's so passionate and that passion is what makes him so much fun to listen to. Hard to separate it out.

Walton is a blatant homer and I hate, hate, hate the Dead.

But I love the guy. There were times last night - even when the game was getting away from CU - where he had me giggling like a little kid.

Did any of you listen to local sports talk when he had a weekly call-in show with Clough and Evans in the morning? He was absolutely hilarious. I will take Walton any day of the week.

It's those moments when he says **** like "it's the numbers. Algebra!" That make me question his sanity.

i love to hate him

His UCLA ties didn't really bother me last night. The only time it was bad IMO was at the end when he referred to UCLA as "we" or "us." He criticized them plenty IMO and was notorious for going after Howland.

He is entertaining (love him), but not broadcasting for fUCLA. Maybe love Walton, hate ESPN for scheduling him for a fUCLA game would be more appropriate.

Walton is an annoying commentator. He is too biased and he talks incessantly. It diminishes his credibility in his commentary. Even his commentating partner tries to stop him when he gets on a roll. Sorry, don't like him as a color commentator at all.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

That's part of Dave Pasch's job is to focus on the game itself. Did you catch the "Happy bday Keith Olbermann" exchange last night?

I think he's funny as hell. In the CU games I've seen him doing commentary, he's been pretty complimentary of the Buffs. Maybe I missed one where he wasn't I guess? Last night, he didn't say anything that couldn't be seen on the court imho.

Agree this totally. He loves UCLA, but I didn't think he was overly bias towards them, perhaps with exception to that last remark but I thought it was fairly innocent.

He's a very smart guy who knows and can communicate a lot about basketball. He's different enough that he's fun but not so different that he is completely distracting.

he has his biases, no question but those biases come from a passion for the game. In comparison he is way ahead of most of the color guys we get for basketball ond football on the PAC12 network.

Love him. He's the one announcer you can always count on to know the background of every player who steps on the floor.

When he was rambling about Scott's family and then later XJ's family...

Can't wait for him to be here for Gameday

I'm a fan - I like that he retains the values and life lessons he has gotten from the game and adds them to his commentary. Sure he is shaped by UCLA, but he promotes leadership, team first play and effort. I would be thrilled if in 30 years some former Buff player was passing on the lessons they learned in a Tad Boyle decade of dominance while bringing an remarkable level of knowledge about all the teams in players in the current conference. He could be an elitist prick - but everything I have heard is that he is approachable and generally a great ambassador for the game and college athletes in general.

AB's would want Levi Knudson on there.

I'm trying to think on that Tad-guy would be who is larger than life figure like Walton? Probably Spencer comes closest, but there's some time.

Bill's got his schtick. But I do appreciate that he puts some effort into it, like going on about Scott's background being generally educated enough to know that Monument is on the Front Range.

For my money, though, Bob Knight is the best color guy around. He regularly comments on plays away from the ball and is good at parsing why runs happen. He is exactly the type of announcer that would notice our troubles on help-side D. And I say all this despite believing that he was a despicable tyrant as a coach.

I wanted to hear Bobby Knight's thoughts on Mike Rice, I was upset ESPN didn't bring him in to comment on it.
