Coach Mac has been an extended another year by the regents. New end date Dec 31, 2018. No changes to salary or bonuses.

Really odd. Wondering if he requested it so he can go hard on this recruiting class and is able to sell stability along with the new facilities.

I think it is becoming a common thing. If a HC has shown inital progress, the deal gets pushed one year out. It is a nice middle ground, better than a whopping raise and extension.

I wasn't expecting this so soon but he did get more wins in year 1 than his predecessor did in 2 years. Also w/ facilities and strategic plan being announced perhaps it is all tied together.

There is so much going on behind the scenes who knows. But I definitely trust RG-that dude is running this thing like a business exactly as promised.

Yeah, I think this is kind of the standard practice these days for recruiting purposes.

Meh - I don't really have a problem with it. One small sign that they're starting to pay more attention to the football program.

Congrats Coach Mac! I like it, the coach is buying into Boulder and CU and the AD is buying into Mac's philosophy.

This shouldn't be a surprise. We've been doing this with Tad all along. Of course, he keeps getting big raises every time the contract is extended.

the difference is Tad absolutely deserves his extensions.

From the DC:
"This multi-year employment agreement is necessary to retain Coach MacIntyre in the position of head football coach in light of the prevailing market conditions and competitive employment practices in the Pac-12 Conference and nationwide," according to documents provided for the regents.

For all we know HCMM has already received interest from other programs. Less so for what he did at CU in yr 1 but more for his total resume. And he has done nothing at CU to change the opinion that he could be a really good HC at this level.

Exactly. No big deal. It's just so that the coach is under contract for the duration of the college careers of the guys he is currently recruiting. Eliminates a question mark.

Hope they do this every year. Need to give MM every possible advantage on the recruiting trail.

Agree with Nik. Recruits need to know we have stability, given the shuffling that has taken place the past couple of years.

The extension will also let the Vandy AD know to keep his mitts off our guy, if Derick Mason decides to go elsewhere.

Including his son, so not a huge surprise. I wonder if the extension also included some altered language on the buyout provisions based on the current facilities timeline. I honesty don't remember what they were but if there was any question about our ability to hit all those contracted milestones, better to reset that timeline now.

Calm down

This is standard operating procedure for CU because of tabor.

ALL coaches on muti-year deals in good standing will be "extended" by the regents because the state law blocks contracts longer than 5 years. Tad will be "extended" again this spring, so will Lappe. These "extensions" do not have a material effect on compensation, buyouts, or base pay unless specifically stated and those are often things like Tad's increase bonus comp for improving APR. This is not remotely the same thing as when Bohn re-did Boyle's deal last year or extended Hawkins. As Ringo notes this has been going on for multiple years, unbunch your panties folks.

This is not a sign of faith in MacIntyre, increased football faith, school commitment, or really anything other than the fact the Regents do this for everyone on a multi-year deal.

There is no buyout under the previous plan. Hopefully they have included one now. But I doubt it.

Yes there is, there is only no buyout if CU misses key milestones in facilities planning and construction, which we have not.

Again they didnt re-do the contract they just rolled it over.

Good sign CU is committed to its coaches and hopefully overall success.
