Staff recruiting ability discussion (split from recruit thread)

I am sure to most recruits Nebraska sounds better than Colorado as a football program because they were relevant more recently than we were. But honestly their program is not that good these days in one of the weaker Big5 conferences, they have an obnoxious coach who is on his way out, and it is freakin Lincoln Nebraska.

I would expect going forward CU will do fine competing head to head with Nebraska for West Coast recruits.

Sure. While CU gets its ass kicked for the Colorado ones...

Speculation. McIntyre has shown no ability to go head to head with most any BCS school, let alone a top15 historical program.

We have to get some wins to make it happen but if we can then I think that M2 will do fine recruiting against schools like Nebraska, especially as they continue underperform their expectations in the B1G.

Of course not. Where has he been in a position where he could? You're just looking for something to rip him for. No logic to your comment.

His comment has plenty of merit. Look at history. The staff has a poor record of head to head recruiting with any BCS school.

It has zero merit. He was recruiting to San Jose St. who were aweful. By the time he turned them around, before his success might even attract better recruits, he came here. You are defending the indefensible.

You and many here are basing your opinion on faith. We may have to move this to the religion forum. Like you said, he doesn't have track record that demonstrates he can recruit high rated players at the levels you need to be successful in the PAC12. Doesn't mean he wont be able to, but so far he hasn't demonstrated that he can.

After one full recruiting cycle it's premature to say that he can't. He has to switch his entire plan from SJSU. To be honest he has shown he can recruit with the big boys with his track record at Duke and Ole Miss.

I think that certain people are going to have a hard time enjoying our success when it happens.

I agree with the first sentence of your post, but to give him credit for Duke is reaching. He was there for like a year and a half five years ago, and Duke hasn't exactly cemented themselves as contenders for a MNC, yet. He has done exactly as expected. No more, no less.

How high is Duke's ceiling in your mind? What about MacIntyre at Ole Miss?

More importantly, how much did MMac contribute to recruiting success at either school? People are willing to ascribe all of it to him, on here. Not enough here to tell either way. The only real measure is his classes at SJSU and here. Still too early to tell with those classes whether he can raise his game to match the rest of the BCS teams, but so far I am disappointed.

The big thing when Duke is brought up is that MacIntyre is following the same path as Cutcliffe in terms of how to build a team, which is to every year bring in better athletes as you improve. CU though has a much, much higher ceiling than Duke and is easier to recruit to when there is some momentum. The 2015 class will tell a much better story about whether this staff can recruit at a Pac 12 level with the facilities and new uniforms coming in 2015, there will be a lot more to sell (bowl game being much more realistic in 2014 than 2013) and the facilities will make the playing field a bit more level.

We might not know how HCMM will do in recruiting battles going head to head against some of the tops of the PAC-12, but we do know one of the following is true:
1) He recruits players he is able to win with
2) He is able to win with the players he recruits
Or both could be true. That being said, I believe in time after getting more redshirted upperclassmen in our program we will experience winning far more regularly than we have in the last 10 years. Will we be able to secure a seat in the upper echelon of the PAC-12, or college football? Who knows, but right now I am happy with baby steps. Any progress is good progress, and I maintain faith based on the couple of kids that were 'his' in his first recruiting class.

You need to preface you points by adding "in the WAC". Keep in mind that Dan Hawkins was the winningest active coach in D1 when we hired him. Where did he run up his record? "in the WAC". Shake your faith any?

Why are you acting like both situations are the same?

No kidding. BSU was 10-2 when Halk took over a dominant program from Koetter who moved up to ASU. HCMM took over SJSU which had 2 wins the previous seasons, 3 winning seasons in more than 15 years and was a program on the chopping block. Talk about apples and oranges.

Apples and oranges is PAC 12 and WAC. You can win in the WAC with subpar recruiting. Not so muc in the PAC 12.

And his recruiting has been sub par says who? Rivals? The three guys in last years cycle that were all Mac's guys: Adkins, Gilliam and Aweze (spelling) are all good to great players. This year? Who knows? I do know that they are the building blocks we need.

Man you are ignoring a lot of factors that MM had going against him

Tini-I am a slow learner but am finally realizing there are some "fans" here at AB that really are not prepared to appreciate progress and prefer to remain negative about where we are and where we are going. Statistics and facts that demonstrate progress are bypassed, or rationalized away.

Someone in another thread mentioned that some Buff fans are going to really struggle in the next few years as we continue to improve. It will get harder and harder to complain and they will get frustrated. Maybe they'll start rooting for the Rams b/c they should have a lifetime of complaining opportunities.

Your disrespect for the competitive college football landscape is silly. You cant win anywhwere with without the complete package. Quit defacating all over yourself.
