I can't believe that Stanford actually has a better chance to make the elite 8 than UCLA. Anyone else remember Dawkins was on the hot seat just a few weeks ago?

Winner predictions: UF, Stanford, UofA, Wisco, Louisville, Mich, Virg, ISU.

Florida, Stanford, Arizona, Baylor (hate myself now), Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Connecticut

Do I have to keep my bracket picks? I have both Iowa State/Michigan advancing, but definitely rethinking those.

How's everyone doing? I've got 9 of my picks still alive in the sweet 16. Pretty good average...for a weatherman :)

Sweet 16: 11 of 16
Elite 8: 7 of 8
Final 4: All 4
Sweet 16: 12 of 16
Elite 8: 6 of 8
Final 4: 3 of 4
Putting KU in the final losing to Arizona crushes my bracket, but UCLA beating Florida would more than make up for it

But, more importantly, I'm disturbed by the number of people I see (real life, twitter, here) that cheer with their brackets over their hearts. Listen, unless you have serious money on the line, there is NO REASON to cheer for Virginia to beat Coastal Carolina (except for CVille, he's cool). None. And yet that was all I heard at the bar I was at and from twitter. It was strange.

We've ****ed up as society people. Upsets > Brackets.

Go Dayton!

I only have nine of 16 left, but six of the final eight and all four of the FF. I took a flyer on UCLA making it to the final game against Arizona. I think Florida is a better team, but I always go for one big upset. If UCLA wins on Thursday, things look really good for me.

Anyone else really impressed with Tenn? Stokes looks like a defensive end out there. Buffs big men need to take note of stokes and hit the weights. On that note, i still think that michigan beats them.

13/16 (duke, Syracuse, unc)
6/8( duke Syracuse)

8/8
4/4

But the sad thing is the bracket I am in gives way too many points for upsets so I am 11th or so and probably won't win.

What if we did brackets so that the seed you pick to win is equal to the number of points that team earns you?

1-seed pick earns you 1 point, but correctly picking the 16-seed gets you 16 points.
Etc., etc.

Then, in the 2nd round all point values double.

That way, picking a 1-seed to win it all would be worth: 1+2+4+8+16+32 = 63 points
But successfully picking a 12-seed to make the Elite 8 wold be worth: 12+24+48 = 84 points

Would anyone be interested in doing one that way next year?

Interesting concept, but I am more interested in overall accuracy that over weighting underdogs. I believe you do have to correctly get some underdogs right to win out as it is.

Yeah... The larger (or more competitive) the pool is, the more risks you have to take to begin with. You want to predict the trendy -- Michigan State, UofA, UF, Louisville Final Four -- you better have something like Stanford/Dayton in the Sweet 16, Mercer over Duke, and other unforeseen things to win your pool.

By giving more points to underdog picks, it just encourages you pick upsets and spices things up, it's better for smaller pools IMO. Like one of my pools is <20 people, I was one of two people to pick UofA. I pretty much figured out that if UofA wins, I'll likely finish first. This is standard scoring, if they hadn't awarded as much to the latter rounds/empathized more on underdog picks, I wouldn't be as confident.

I do like entering many different formats -- I'm doing this year: 3 non-traditional ones, 2 regular ones.

That is how this bracket is set up. I dont like it, it encourages people to game the system. So what you do is pick your Final 4 then pick basically all upsets beyond that with a few exceptions. Those are the people that are winning. Takes away from the spirit of the bracket in my opinion.

Are the tipoff times for these games set prior to the tournament or are they flexible? Sucks that Virginia/MSU and Lousiville/Kentucky are on at the same time. Had the same issue with the 2 late games last night. Especially since they only started 5 minutes apart.

TV picks the times I believe....the games were suppose to be half an hour apart but the Baylor/Wisconsin game was really quick

According to this, Colorado's been talking more about Dayton than any other Sweet 16 team.

Does anyone have a way to measure "mentions" on AB since the Sweet 16 was set to see if it correlates? My gut says we've spent more time talking Arizona, UVA and Wisconsin than Dayton on this board.
