Pac-12 TV windfall is sweet, but not what you might think

MILWAUKEE -- Ran into Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott the other night at the Bradley Center, where he was taking in the Oregon-BYU NCAA Tournament game. The cat has done a marvelous job positioning the conference, raising the profile, and is now chasing more depth in men's basketball and football.

It got me thinking about the conference television deal, originally reported as a windfall for the conference members. I've wondered how Oregon and Oregon State might spend their $21 million in revenue. I've also heard a lot of fans muttering and scratching their heads, trying to figure out where all the new television money is and how it's being spent given especially all the talk about how Oregon State can't afford to fire Craig Robinson right now.

That was only showing 6 mill for old funds...CU was making more than that with the B12 were we not? So 4 mill in new money might only be 2 million in new funds? Of course....IF we were paying back6 plus million to CU. No idea if we were doing that yet or not. Would certainly get rid of the debt owed to CU in a hurry if we did so though.

Give the additional monies to Tad; he's the only thing worth a damn at CU.

Roll Tad

Revenue is a little lower this year because of financing the creation of the Pac-12 network expansions. But I don't think there's debt, so it should be $20+ million per school and growing every year as we move forward.

That writer demonstrated little understanding of financial math. Moreover, the numbers were more specifically geared towards OSU. Anyone who followed the deal when it happened knew that CU would not be reaping the full benefits of the 18-21 million AAV for the first few years. That article was only educational for OSU fans who were living under a rock during 2010-2011

We were getting $9 million in the Big. So, the difference is $11 million, right? We had to pay the penalty for leaving but that's been resolved. We also have the buy outs for Bohn et al to deal with. So, I could see us being around $5 million for the first year. But after that, our revenue stream should start flowing.

Whomever wrote that article needs lessons in accounting and math. His whole discussion of new money is silly since he mixes it with total revenue.
