I was pleased to read Ted Miller's prediction that the Buffs will "post a major upset" this year:

One way-too-early prediction:

Colorado improved dramatically in Year 1 under MacIntyre, and the depth chart is far more promising than a year ago. But in the rugged Pac-12, it's difficult to project six victories and bowl eligibility. That said, this team is good enough to beat someone it’s not supposed to beat. And it will in 2014. The Buffs will post a major upset in 2014.

So who do you think it could be? Arizona St and Oregon St at home and Arizona on the road would likely all count as upsets, but perhaps not "major." At USC and at Oregon would be ridiculous upsets of epic proportions. UCLA and Washington are both poised to be ranked, perhaps quite highly, when they get here and would be unanimous brick-game, major upsets.

Bust out the Kool Aid and be positive! No J-R-K or FatBuff-type bitching allowed!

Where's our upset? My guess it come either on the road, or at home.

j/k I'll say UW. Boise Pete goes full haLk his first year.

Of those 4, UW. After that Oregon State is most likely

I don't see UCLA at all

UCLA gonna put hurtings on us. UA and ASU could happen. UW mebbe. Does Oregon State even count?

I don't see any of these upsets happening, so I picked Oregon, since Timmy said drink the Kool-Aid before voting.

Nothing on this list. We will open the season as the underdog against all conference foes and only that will change later with a demonstrative conference win.

Exactly. The upset is ASU. But once we take them down we should be favored in the rest on our way to 12-0.

From the list, Washington. For whatever uninformed reason though, I think it will be Arizona.

Please. Please. Please. The ASU game is looking to be my Boulder trip this year. I hope we beat them and when the students rush the field after the game, that Ballage decides to join the party and refuses to travel back to Tempe.

What team didn't curb stomp up last year? I'm thinking we beat UA.

We do need to be in all games this year at least going into the 4th down by no more than 10pts for me to say we made progress (not counting Oregon).

Not saying a win is a realistic possibility, but a smooth transition for Sarkisian at USC is not a given. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a very up and down year.

I actually think we have a punchers chance against ASU, but that's not on the list.

Plus they're hurting with depth

UCLA -- coming off an easy win @ Cal, the over-confident Bruins look past the Buffs to their following week's home matchup with Arizona.

We were closer to beating UCLA than Arizona last year

ASU.

Zona is the least likely outside of Oregon.

So you think it's more likely that we beat UCLA or USC in the Coliseum than it is that we would beat Arizona? That's high praise for the Wildcats, but not sure I see it.

Until I see a Buffs defense actually slow down an offense that heavily relies on zone read, I think those teams are the worst matchups.

Fair point, Duff, but I guess I had attributed our defensive woes more to talent levels than to schematic deficiencies. In my mind, UCLA and even SC are more talented by a wide margin than Zona so I would think our chances against them would be worse.
