Quick Summary of 2015 for MBB

Graduating seniors: 1
- Askia Booker

Potential additional scholarships: 3
- 1 from Dinwiddie if Tad banks it or brings in a grad transfer senior in 2014
- 1 possibly from Josh Scott declaring for NBA draft
- 1 possibly from attrition if a player not getting PT decides to leave

My guess is that Tad signs 2 in the Fall period, but he could certainly roll the dice and sign 3.

Based on the roster for 2015, the main needs are a SF and a SG. A 3rd player would be "best player available" with a stretch forward probably being the most desirable addition (or a true center, but guys who can play that are as rare as bigfoot).

Wish List:

Cameron Walker, SF, Santa Maria, CA (Compton Magic). Consensus Top 150 prospect ranked as high as #50. Kind of a "point forward" type who has a very well-rounded game. Great passer who can score both inside and out.

Jeremy Hemsley, SG, La Verne, CA (Superior Athletes). Consensus Top 100 prospect ranked as high as #52. High energy athletic slasher who can also knock down jump shots. Plus defender.

Rex Pflueger, SG, San Juan Capistrano, CA (Oakland Soldiers). Consensus Top 100 prospect ranked as high as #54. Another "point forward" who is a bit of a tweener between the "2" and the "3". Smart player who excels as a spot up shooter who can also break down a defense from the mid-range.

Bennie Boatwright, SF, Sun Valley, CA (Cal Supreme). Consensus Top 100 prospect ranked as high as #39. Great spot up shooter with athleticism to break down bigger players off the dribble. At 6'9", can play the "3" or as a stretch "4".

Rickey Brice, C, Dallas, TX (Nike Team Texas). Emerging player ranked as high as 4* #25 Center by 247s. Soft hands, big frame, impressive rebounder with a developing back-to-the-basket game. Huge upside. At 7'0" and 260 lbs, would probably become a prime target if the "Josh Scott to NBA" scenario became a reality after the summer.

Is Cameron Walker the most realistic high ranked player that CU signs?

Boatwright seems like a pipe dream at this point. I also think CU signs 2. Could be 3 if they expect Josh Scott leaves early, but that doesn't seem very likely.

I think Walker/Hemsley/Pflueger are our most realistic high ranked players. And they're all kind of lumped together in the rankings.

Great stuff Nik. YMSSR.

Signing two top 75 Cali recruits in one class would be unprecedented. Not betting against it, but this recruiting summary could be more comprehensive.

Pretty much everything that has happened since Tad arrived has been unprecedented. Unprecedented doesn't mean it's not going to happen anymore.

I appreciate the write up. I think we will be looking at 2 for 2015 unless we have a player leave unexpectedly. Tad won't force guys out once they have made the commitment if they work hard and keep their grades up. I would like to get the Texas center if he could play within Tad's system. A big mobile player would open up the outside and take pressure off the power forwards. Throw in a solid outside shooter and we will have a great team.

Never said never and did say I'm not betting against it. Just because Tad has set a lot of firsts doesn't mean we'll land two top 75 Cali kids this year either.

Go for it. I did title this thread as "Quick Summary".

True, quick is the operative word, but I'm assuming you have the rivals/scout subs and I'm just a freeloader begging for more info

With the early departure of Chris Jenkins wouldn't theat give Tad & Co. another scholarship to use in either the class of '14 or '15? Should it not be used now, that would mean 3 available for '15.

Depends on what is done to close 2014. If Tad banks it or grabs a grad transfer, then we'll have 3. I think I mis-stated that in the OP.

No, I think you were right the first time around. There are 11 committed 2015-16 schollies right now. Dinwiddie was coming off the 15-16 number regardless.

I think we ran into the same issues with scholarship counts last year too.

I guess I need to do some back of the envelope math:

Max scholarships: 13

2013 roster (12): Fletch, Hop, King, Thomas, Wes, XJ, Jelly, Eli, XT, Ski, Mayor, Mills

Attrition (2): Mayor & Mills

2014 class: added 2 (Collier & Miller)

So we're still at 12. If Tad banks or adds a grad transfer with 1 year of eligibility, then that scholarship will be available for the 2015 class. If Tad signs a player with multi-year eligibility, then that scholarship would be available for the 2015 class.

2015 class: Ski is the lone senior loss, plus assume that the Jenk scholarship is available.

Base is 2.

I was right the first time. Tad signed 2 last fall despite having 1 senior because he was counting Mayor as a senior.

Cross my 2nd guy off the wish list.

Cameron Walker has got to be the focus for this class.

I actually posted that realizing it was a pipe dream. Recruiting is leveling off, mind you at a much higher level than it was before, but it is definitely leveling off.

I can't argue that. A lot of recruiting hopes were based on us making the S16 prior to the ACL injury by the Mayor. Tad definitely has his work cut out for him.

I have trouble agreeing with an assessment that recruiting is "leveling off". I look at it more in terms of the program cementing itself into a level it had never been at.

We've achieved one single Top 25 class.

Incoming with Dom and Miller is the first class where every recruit was in the Top 150.

The 2015 board is almost entirely populated with 4* prospects.

This is building. Results have been incrementally better without taking a major jump. And while that has been happening the roster talent has been incrementally building from the Spencer-Ski-Adams-Cain class in 2011.

There are levels in between recruiting like a mid-major (CU's past) and being able to swing your dick with the elites.

I hope the football recruiting alarms don't echo too far off in basketball land. Since 2011 Tad has found talent in every single class that would be unheard of in any year before he arrived. Still, Colorado's top two sports can have the most dynamic recruiters and there's still a ceiling for how far above the record one can recruit. It seems uniform swag, being on TV, getting to the pros, and playing for an overall winner with a rich championship history are all things valued just as much and in many cases more than location, attractiveness of coeds, and academic opportunities. In basketball, we are making up ground with the increased NBA presence and highest win totals in history. We're at least on the right track but what is going to be memorable to recruits is which programs they are watching in the Sweet 16 every single year. We simply have to get to that second weekend to make a name for ourselves outside of the state.

It won't be the class that most of the fan base or even possibly the coaching staff was hoping for, but I am still confident the Buffs will have two good players in the class

I don't think they will. And like Nik pointed out, leveling off is probably too strong. I think the better way to phrase it is like roland did:

It's still going to be a damn good class in '15, but it may not be the "top 15, potentially top 10" class that some of us had hoped/expected.

Despite knowing what game you're playing, I'm going to answer.

Yes. Or plan A2. A1 was going after some serious top level guys (Justin Simon).

That's a good way of putting it. We took a shot at some McDonald's AA types. Didn't happen. We've been in the mix for that next level of guys in the Top 50-100 and missed on a couple with several more on our board. Below that, we've got some of the "3* with some major program offers" types also on the board. It's going to be interesting to see where we end up. Excellent class either way with an opportunity for it to be unprecedented.

I think all we have right now to follow is recruiting so we're getting restless for both football and basketball "splashes" because there are no CU sports in season. With us being so focused on that instead of actual games it's maddening to go entire weeks without hearing about a new verbal or a scheduled visit. The seasons fly by too fast but the summer lasts forever.

I get that. I'm sure I have a different perspective since I follow the recruiting closely year-round. It's always a long process with many more disappointments than successes. Besides that, for basketball we haven't even hit the July AAU tournaments (TX, CA and Las Vegas) along with the Nike Camp in Broomfield. I'm not sure that we'll even see a summer CU commitment. There is a lot of talent scouting to be done still to find the right 2 guys for the program. Usually it's OVs to Boulder getting scheduled late summer. Then those OVs begin with the first weekend of football.

Anyway, it pays to be laid back and philosophical about the whole process. To not get excited unless there's an announcement of something tangible. Right now it's just names on a screen and tweets by 17 year olds.

We are making our way down the list. As far as I can tell (I asked Goose), Boatwright isn't really in play for us anymore, and Rickey Brice, well, he's just some tall guy with a Texas St. Offer.

TL;DR: I hope we have a damn good Plan C.

So, we're down to Pflueger or Brice as our highest hopes? Would love either, but would really love Brice. Fits the profile: lefty & a little bit under the radar. With Fortune in, I want see us go after the 7'0 250+ big

Brice is showing offers from CU, Ok st, UCLA, & Boise st on ESPN. I know ESPN isn't the best but, is that not factual?

We could probably make a push for Boatwright now.

I actually like Andre Adams a lot.

I think that Tad wants another shooter based on the activity we're seeing.
