I know I'm not a quarterback evaluation guru.

But I've just been watching Montez's highlights (finally got around to it). Love the height. Love the way he moves in the open field to avoid tacklers. Love the accuracy and the deep ball. Love that he can gun it when necessary.

I like this prospect better than any of the non-elites we have profiled.

Am I crazy? This does not look at all like a 2* prospect to me.

I guess we'll find out if he follows through with his plans to camp at CU on June 18th.

Been touched on at the rivals board but his dad Alfred is from Granada in SE colorado, went to DII Western New Mexico and got a camp invite with the Raiders.

I think his dad's team put my team out in the semi's years ago (epic snow game). I suppose I would be willing to forgive all if the young man wants to become a Buff.

Not sure if he's playing suspect competition in the highlights but his receivers appear excellent at getting open. His throwing motion looks typical HS QB in that it could use some work but he definitely gets the ball there. Offense looks more pass-heavy than I'm used to from HS ball in Texas but then again I've been out of school for a long while.

Listed weight is still on the wrong side of 2 bills for a QB that tall but I think he could put some on without losing that scramble quickness. Was he here this weekend or has Coach Lindgren seen him thrown in person elsewhere?

He wasn't here to on June 1. Possibly will be on June 18. I believe that Jeffcoat saw him in El Paso.

This is one of the kids I hope we get to evaluate first hand. Like 'Nik, I like his film more than the other guys we've been talking about lately. I actually like it as much as any I've seen this spring. I also said that about Apsay last year, so hopefully our QB coach is listening to me!

He's way to skinny. He's a quarterback all the way.

He'll need to and will gain weight either way (hence FUTURE TE). Good athlete and gaining 30 lbs will be easier than fixing his Evans/Hirschman/insert other awkward CU QB throwing motion.

I don't see anything awkward or unconventional in his motion. It looks pretty good to me. Given his father got a sniff of being an NFL QB, I'd be surprised if it was anything unconventional, or needed to be fixed.

Dad is also his coach at Del Valle High School.

He just holds the ball a little low which is an easy fix. Everything else with his motion is fine

My Pops was being scouted by the Pittsburg Pirates, but that doesn't mean I can throw a curveball.

The "position switch guy" is my favorite part of recruiting message boards.

Who was the person on this board who used to try to project at least half the roster into other positions?

I'll admit his motion isn't horrid, but I honestly can't think of a QB who dramatically changed their natural biomechanics. Tebow tried hard as hell, but would always go back to 'chucking rocks' when the heat was on.

Aaron Rodgers raised his hold up at cal and then lowered it back down when he got to the pros. It not really a change in motion, he is always going to throw it the same he is just going to change his beginning point

Tebow did ok in college. :wink2:

With Montez, the issue with watching highlights versus the full game film the coaches will see, is that it's impossible for us to know how accurate he really is. Even stats don't tell that story, because we can't know how good his receivers were at catching the ball or how often his OL forced him to throw the ball away. Definitely a guy that needs to throw in front of our coaches. I can see why that's a prerequisite for all QBs they offer outside of the true blue chippers.

Wasn't that a Tedford signature with his QBs of having them hold the ball around their ear hole?
