2014 Transfer List

I really think this team would benefit from a great shooter. Ski showed he can be a distributor and Collier will be one as well. Not a great need for bigs but that shooter will make life so much better for the Buffs in 14-15

Agree, perimeter shooter. We also miss the mayor as a lockdown defender, so maybe emphasis there if a shooter can't be found

I'm not an expert, but WTF, this is a fan message board...

first thought is that I don't think CU should pursue transfers at this point. In general, I advocate to build a team by getting guys who fit they system and are likely to be around for 3 - 4 years (e.g. Bo Ryan at Wisconsin).
I also believe there are exceptions:
1. if you have a good team, but are missing the depth needed to make a deep tourney run this year or next year (e.g. Luke Hancock at Louisville)
2. if a team is rebuilding, lacks depth to the point where organizing practice is difficult, and an immediate need exists to stop embarrassing your school and conference before all fan interest and booster donations disappear (e.g. what Buzz Williams is doing at Virginia Tech)

second thought is that's a big, long list. I don't begrudge players a right to transfer, but IMO it doesn't help the game.

I hope it is more of a longterm transfer, if possible. Going the senior route might have made more sense before, but with CU not likely getting two very high ranked recruits anyway, I'd be okay with bringing in someone that has 2-3 years and that has more longterm impact. Even if they have to sit out a year. Still plenty of talented players available, but the other issue is Tad has been very clear that he will only bring in the right type of character of player.

Someone like Stevie Clark, certainly has the talent to play in the Pac-12, but he has a lot of baggage too. Similar situation with Air Force's Tre Coggins, Nebraska's Deverell Biggs and a lot of other top transfer candidates.

To the bold... am I missing something you guys know about that I don't? All I've seen is the lowest rated recruit Tad is focused on is a 3* sharpshooter with Kansas among his finalists.

Scout.com lists five 4* recruits that CU is targeting. Dunno if there are more on the Buffs radar that they have a realistic shot of. My opinion of the five

Cameron Walker: Widely expected to go to Stanford. Would be very surprised if he didn't, unless there were some issue with grades.

Jimmie Whitt: Has been seen as an Arkansas lean for a long time. If that were to change, with an offer from his hometown Tigers, I still doubt CU gets in the running.

Stephen Thompson: His last update wasn't exactly good news for Buff fans, but he is still probably the most likely Top 100 kid to commit.

Bennie Boatwright: We really aren't in the running for him, as far as I know

Marcus LoVett: Seems to want to stay in Cali.

Realistic expectation is that the Buffs get visits from Thompson and Walker and MAYBE get one to commit. That would be nice, and I think an overly optimistic look at their chances. Even still, you're probably going to have to bring in 1-2 other recruits (with attrition) that are likely in the 3 star range. Malek Harwell gets talked about a lot positively. CU could probably do worse.

Harwell and one of Thompson/Walker in addition to a very good transfer would still make CU a loaded team in 2015.

I am quite a bit more optimistic about Walker than the picture you paint.

Agreed 100% on Whitt and Boatwright though. Whitt is going to Arkansas unless he can get an offer from Kansas.

Plus, it's early. We didn't know about XJ's interest in CU until he agreed to visit. That was in what, August? September?

I hope you're right. It's just that not many people are talking about Cameron Walker and Colorado in the same sentence. Eric Bossi was asked about him, and mentioned a number of other Pac-12 schools, but Colorado didn't get mentioned. It's early like you said; a lot of things can change. Get him for a visit and he might fall in love with Boulder and commit on the spot.

You guys are leaving off Rex Pflueger.

Well, he didn't mention CU in his latest update

What update? The one from Rivals? If so, he didn't mention any schools but the writer did so I'm not going to look to into that all that much.

Unless I am mistaken. In one of the recent basketball threads, might still be on the board

EDIT - I searched all his and Ryan's posts and came up empty. So maybe I am totally wrong?

If Tad could find a senior transfer, what should he look for?
1)Big or guard?
2)Shooter, distributor, rebounder or defender at a premium?

You know more about tadBall than I do, so surprised this is even a question:
1) hybrid
2) yes

From May 25th, Stanford Cardinal Rivals article: Pflueger has yet to determine all of the schools that will receive official visits, but said that Stanford, San Diego State, USC, Cal, Florida, UConn, Notre Dame and Washington State are the primary programs still involved in his recruitment.

Edit: Delete if this is against TOS. 24 hours had long passed, though.

I want a shooter as bad as anyone, but if we're talking a transfer who might be 20 years old or more when he is eligible to play his first game here, I kind of want a big. I know we have several good ones, but I'm talking a bully. An inch or two taller than Tory Miller and similarly built. 250 or more. Boxes people the **** out. Game like Kevin Bookout or Arthur Johnson. Maybe not big man skills that translate to being draftable, but at the college level pushes guys around. Doubt there's too many of those fitting the bill looking to transfer, but thinking back to that Pitt loss has me wanting a frontcourt that can throw its muscle around sooner rather than wait to bulk up and develop someone like that.

The thing I think we've been missing is an Austin Dufault. Having a stretch 4 who sets good picks on the perimeter and is a threat to knock down a 3 rolling off of them has been the biggest thing holding back the offense the past couple year, imo. Maybe Dustin can fill that role. I think it's what he was recruited for. But I'd love to see a 22 year old with all that game experience doing it for us. Not sure it's out there, though.

I thought Eli Stalzer was our sharpshooter. No?

I've been more critical of Eli than most. But he had a nice stretch in the last third of the season that helped win us some games. Giving credit where it's due here. Hopefully he'll find himself and be an asset these last 2 years.

Too bad we couldn't get that kid that just transferred to Auburn and Bruce Pearl. Kid stated the choice came down to "intangibles".

In his chat yesterday, Ringo said the staff is recruiting a foreign player

That could point to Tad looking for a stretch "4" like I suggested. That position was pretty much invented in the international game.

Just spit-ballin, but going off the transfer list and this article--http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2014/05/lsu_basketball_coach_johnny_jo_5.html

Tad could be looking at Shane Hammink from LSU/Netherlands. Father says he's looking at schools in the west in the link and he's a 6'7 guy who won best defensive player at a Nike tournament in Europe.

He didn't play much at LSU & seems like a sub-par shooter but fits the Tad profile--length, versatility, defense, and he's left-handed. Held offers from Florida, Iowa, and possibly Miami in '12. Dad was a 1st rd pick out of LSU.
