Not the most exciting of offers, being a punter and all, but Colorado has reportedly offered Boone High School (Orlando) punter Tommy Townsend. His first offer. He's rated as the No. 1 punter for 2015 by Kohl's Kicking and his brother kicks for Florida.

"Tommy has attended multiple Kohl's Kicking Camp events. The most recent was our National Underclassman Challenge in January of 2014. Tommy has a D1 frame and leg speed. He hit multiple 5.0-second hang times at the the Underclassman Challenge and turned the ball over consistently. His brothers starts at SEC school, and he aspires become an elite college punter as well. Tommy is a D1 scholarship punter."

Those two punts in the video were bombs! Have to think he's a real long shot.

Thanks Kyle, good info. Looks like we want to get our kicking situation figured out in a big way. And it looks like we've decided we like the young kicker from Mexico as a place kicker more than a punter.

An interesting side note. Tommy Townsend's older brother is Johnny Townsend of the Florida Gators. He threw Urban Meyer's plans into disarray last year when he de-committed from Ohio State and signed with Florida --- either on signing day or the day before. Was a huge surprise to the Buckeye's. Florida was his top choice, childhood favorite, etc, but they didn't have a scholarship for him, until something happened in the stack of Jenga blocks that is signing week. Johnny was expected to redshirt in 2013, but took over punting duties halfway through the Gators' season and ended up with a respectable 42.0 average over 29 punts. Looking at families of punters (such as the Colquitts), knowing what one brother can do IS indicative of what others may produce.
The elder Townsend was named to the SEC's all-freshman team.

It is a big deal. When CU was great, we had great punters that could help flip a field. It is a pretty big deal. Hope he has mutual interest. Lots of great punters have come through CU.

Not close, per se, but a 9-10 hour drive home is usually a lot more doable than a flight to and from a far away destination like Boulder.

There's such a different attitude about drive times in the South. We had a poster who came here and tried to tell us that Miss State was desirable because it's close to the beach. We come to find out that the beach they drive to is equivalent in drive time to saying that Las Vegas is near the beach - which no one in the West would ever say.
