Both Directv and Dish expexted to sign on day 1 for sec network

Won't be a surprise. Reflects poorly the PAC fan base they would pick up the SEC network at a substantially higher carriage fee. SEC fans, ratings and ESPN.

Is there a link for this or is it just speculation? I've been really busy with school recently, but haven't heard anything more than they were just talking with Directv.

Don't you think the Pac-12 is 2nd class, compared to the SEC?

If you were to rank all of the conferences, would you rank the Pac-12 ahead of the SEC?

Based on rabid fan base of course the PAC ranks behind the SEC. I would still rather watch a PAC game between Oregon and USC over a game between Alabama and anyone else.

DirecTV saying the same thing they did with the PAC. Won't be surprised if they get a deal done, but they don't have one yet. People are mistakenly assuming the pending att deal will get it do.

You wouldn't want to watch Bama vs. aTm? Bama vs. Auburn? Bama vs. Scar?

Don't blame this on Scott --- there just isn't as much interest in the Pac-12 nationally as there is in the SEC.

It's not even national interest that determines whether a regional network like the P12N gets picked up. Because of the way it's priced differently for the P12 states and the rest of the country, almost all of the $$ that the carriers are paying P12N are from in market subs.

And yes of course the SEC has greater national interest (is anyone actually arguing against that?), and is likely charging more for out of market subs than the P12.... plus ESPN can drive up ratings for the SEC network by A) hyping them on sportscenter and B) shifting high demand games from ESPN/ESPN2 to the SEC Net.

I think the fact that Pac12 Net still isn't on DTV is more of a function of a failed negotiation tactic that a perceived lack of interest in the Pac12. Somebody, it may have been Wilner, wrote and article saying the Pac12 botched negotiations with DTV by singing with other providers first. DTV dug in their heals and said "**** you".

Based on rabid fan base the PAC is likely behind the Big 10, SEC, Big 12 and maybe even the ACC. But the PAC is THE only game in town in the west. I still don't fully understand why the PAC can't convince directv to play ball. At this point it seems like a pissing contest. Clearly there was something wrong with the approach to directv beyond just directv irrationally expecting a discount.

PAC fans take the Sunday ticket freebie vs. canceling. SEC fans won't and there are more of them.

DirecTV is determined to drive RSNs to a sports tier vs. basic. If not, they want the carriage fee lowered a great deal. Problem with that would be a favored nation clause and probably would end up costing the PAC revenue from where we already are.

Not comparing interest to the Pac-12, but is there really that much interest in the SEC Network for people who aren't fans? I'm assuming that it's going to be like the Pac-12 Network and you're not going to get the high profile games, more like Ole Miss vs Vanderbilt and Mississippi State vs Kentucky. Either way, I'll believe it when I see it.

ESPN will throw some big games on there. The benefit of having them as a partner

Pac-12 football isn't as important to the average person in the Mountain & Pacific region as SEC football is in the South region.

Nationally, the SEC is more relevant than the Pac-12 in football. I think the Pac-12 is the 2nd best conference in college football, but the gap between #1 and #2 is huge.

Get a Dish. Upgrade your HD selection, technology, add P12 Network and pay less. Stop complaining about having DTV. Simple task.

I might occasionally watch SEC network, but college football for me is all about CU. So I could really care less about this station and who carries it. ESPN has already over-inflated the $EC. I see U$C, UCLA, Stanford and Oregon as strong contenders against all top level $EC teams.

If you're talking about on the field, totally disagree the gap is huge. Even if there is a gap.

From phone

On the field, I don't think it's so huge. The best of the SEC, the middle of the SEC and the bottom of the SEC are all comparable with the same levels of the Pac-12. The level of coaching each conference attracts is also on par. Speed and talent, especially judging by guys put into the NFL (and accounting for 14 teams vs 12 teams supplying talent) is again, similar. SEC gets a small nod on each of these, but the gap isn't huge.

But the string of national champions and national championship appearances in the BCS era gives a clear advantage to the SEC. The number of teams that find themselves in the Top 10 during any given season gives a clear nod to the SEC. This drives the national perception and the national fan interest beyond just the SEC's regional strength. It's simply a much more valuable property for a carrier than the Pac-12, by a longshot. More valuable than the B1G by a longshot. Than the Big 12 of ACC by a longshot.

That's what I meant by "relevant". The average viewer will perceive a game between Tennessee and Arkansas as more relevant than a game between Arizona and Washington State. Doesn't matter that those Pac-12 teams were in bowl games last year while the SEC teams were not.

K. On a side note, would really love to get the SEC outside their footprint for bowls aside from the occasional mnc game.

With Georgia as a rare exception, SEC teams don't like to leave their region or schedule more than 9 BCS opponents in a season.

Yup that's what I did...all but 1 FB game & ALL B-Ball cost me $36.00...it's a small commitment

i'd rather watch a p12 game than pretty much any sec game other than the 1 v 2 type games.

it is about what you are around and what you are comfortable with. the p12 is culturally, academically, and competitively (oops on that last one recently), our peer group. i've never really even thought of bama or lsu as anything other than football factories.

Kudos to scott for holding his ground. DirectTV sck$ anyway.

The SEC has ESPN so that helps SEC negotiate.I can tell Direct TV ****you (I reject them every saturday at costco when they approach me) because CU Sports, broncos, and red zone outweigh Sunday Ticket. However, most people won't leave directv because of Sunday Ticket. PAC12 fans love the PAC12 as part of their sports interests....SEC fans on the other hand live and breathe SEC and are like Jim Carrey on the "Truman show". That is all they know.

bottom line direct tv has more "national" subscribers plus almost all sports bars in america... other than comcrap.... pac 12 games nationally are not being televised or seen in many homes and establishments....

You're right of course. But what do you expect the PAC to do about it? DirecTV has made it clear they aren't going to pay anywhere close to what everyone else is paying. And again, favored nation clause would screw the PAC. It sucks, but unless PAC fans cancel and they lose significant subs, doesn't appear they are going to budge. Hopefully the att deal gets approved and there is a change. Although not counting on it.
