ASU missing a couple of JUCOs

ASU had a couple of highly-regarded JUCOs in last year's class that didn't qualify. DT Dalvon Stuckey was the #8 JUCO and his teammate LB Darrius Caldwell as the #40 JUCO player. So we've got that going for us.

So how long till they both show up at K-State?

Actually I think we are going to see more of this with the new standards and also see more JUCO kids who do qualify for a higher variety of schools as the minimum NCAA standards are raised and the kids work to meet them.

These two not qualifying helps us though since ASU is one of those schools that I think we are closer to catching up with in the league. They still have a significant talent gap over us but I think they are one of the schools we should be aiming at beating in the next couple years.

ASU has some major defensive issues to address. I think Sutton covered up a lot of holes.

Gone from ASU. Whereabouts unknown.

Saw a bit on an ASU board that said he was at a JC and doing well. They mentioned SCC but don't know which one. Also mentioned that he had a concussion issue and weren't happy with the way the ASU staff handled it.

Saw nothing else to confirm or deny this so take it for what it is worth.

So, did CU dodge a bullet here?

I think it was yet another case of a guy with freak defensive end size being available to Embree because of some red flags. His family really brought it when they were posting here so I had additional rooting interest because positive contributions from that side add an interesting element to the board. Hope he can get healthy and return to some program where he is a difference maker.

Good chance he is one of those guys who needs to be in the right situation.

Surround him with some guys who are solid leaders and some coaches who are able to connect with him and you could end up with a difference maker.

On the other hand throw him in the mix without a lot of guidance and let him drift and you are likely to lose him.

Some guys are able to stay on track on their own. They are internally directed. Kisima on the other hand I think is a guy who goes with the flow of those around him and influencing him. As long as he has his family close, as long as he has individuals who he respects and who connect with him he's okay.

He didn't get that from Embree and it sounds like he didn't get that at ASU. I hope that once he gets some time in at the JC he selects his next stop based on that fit.

I don't think you can blame Embree, the kid never got into CU so it was impossible for the staff to direct him. He was a known academic risk and did not qualify. It happens. If he could of qualified (which he eventually did and got into ASU) and stayed on the track he could of been an asset.

I agree with you to a large extent. Sometimes even before a kid gets on campus the relationship with the coaches is able to have an impact on him. I won't say that Embree and his staff didn't try but it certainly didn't work if they did.

I can also see the bunker mentality that the staff moved into getting in the way of succeeding with the relationship as well, they were scrambling at the end.

I hope Kisima is doing ok. Team Kisima was good to us here on AllBuffs and when he decided to choose ASU after his greyshirt there was disappointment but did not seem to be any hard feelings from either side. One of those cases where someone went to a conference rival and I still wished him well. I just did some web searching, and I couldn't find anything about him for almost 2/3 of a year -- ever since he stopped showing up at ASU practices in December of 2013.

1. Was it 100% necessary for Kisima to grayshirt?
2. If #1 is not true, then why would you not get him on campus and under your supervision ASAP?

As of January.

That board is even more primitive than Sheepnation but the most recent thing I saw.

Don't know which college SCC is but assuming that it is Scottsdale Community College but could not find a roster or any other confirmation.

Hope the best for him.
