Experimenting with a new thread.

I envision this as a catch-all for things like if you see a tweet or article on a guy we may not have a profile for, asking questions you may have about things, general recruiting discussion and (hopefully) some of the writers like KyleM will stop by to ask about topics/players we may be interested in them generating content on at their sites.

While this will be kind of a general catch-all thread, it shouldn't result in laziness on posting updates to actual profiles we have made. It's not designed as a replacement for that and I don't want to spend any of my time copying posts from here into profiles, so please don't use it for that.

Further, this thread will track Official Visitors.

When do we get our RB?

We need one. Not the end of the world that 2014 was an empty class since Lindsay redshirted last year, but 2015 has to bring in a guy who can make plays from the RB position.

I don't see much on our board, though. Most of the uncommitted guys I see with some interest (not the uncommitted blue chip RBs) might actually be seen by CU as athletes who might end up on defense.

At this point, I'm hoping our run game shows signs of life that entices a higher level prospect late in this cycle.

I don't want a RB commitment right now.

RB: Not sure how much the Buffs are recruiting him, but I noticed some of the coaches follow Palisades RB/DB Dameon Baber on the Twitter. He picked up a Wyoming offer yesterday.

Palmdale, as in Afroman's Palmdale? Sign him up!

Really hurts seeing all the positive reports on Ballage and Enwere coming from ASU and Cal.

I don't disagree that this staff appears to place less emphasis on the RB in recruiting. However, we were damn close to locking up Dotson who was a top RB so they went after and almost got one last year. Also a lot of reports out of camp are that there is a heavy emphasis on the run game and we are doing well there.

Also the other day HCMM or Lindgren were asked what their ideal mix of run/pass was and I think they said 60/40 in favor of the run. So having said that I think we can assume they like who we have but definitely need to lock up a quality RB in this class.

WR recruiting was awfully quiet at this time last year and that worked out well for us. Seems that they're waiting for late bloomers or recruiting situation changes over the course of the season.

If memory serves, Michael Adkins was a guy that blew up during his senior season.

I have a feeling our RB recruiting is going to drive Duff nuts.

A real short drive----just pulling out of the driveway?

On RBs, of the non-4 & 5* type, would rather wait until their senior season is over to see which ones are truly good, and come as complete a package (running and receiving) as possible. RBs can come from anywhere, ala Salaam---8-man HS FB.

What's the report on Kyle Evans? He's the same size as Khalid Muhammad at Cal and close in speed. College backs don't have to be large to be successful.

I'm not all that worried about the RB position. Good coaches can typically find system guys. Maybe we would be limited in finding studs, but we'll probably always have one or two guys who are Pac-12 caliber in the system we run.

This isn't the NFL. You need studs at the skill positions. Imagine our offense without PRich last year.

I'd take anything out of Cal with a grain of salt that program is off the rails at the moment.

Are we recruiting any TEs or LBs that would provide instant impact as freshmen?

TE will be interesting to follow this year. We got Haigler, but he looks to be a future OT to me. Chris Bounds is still out there, but he may end up being a DE. After those two, the only reasonable name left is the Utah commit from Hawaii.

I'd also have to agree that Barlett would fit in nicely as an OLB next year. Watanabe might come in ready to play as well, assuming his foot is fixed.

Personally, I think Tevis Bartlett could start as a freshman at outside backer but who knows really.
[emoji115][emoji106] I agree. Athletic, multi sport ATH the MCMM was just discussing. Similar to a Gillam mold. I could see that happening.

Is a "system RB" similar to a "game manager" at QB?

Sounds like it to me. I don't know if the backs we have currently are really what MM is looking for or not. It appears to me that MM plans on rotating upwards of four backs in the game. I guess he figures that if you don't have a superstar, you do what you can to keep them fresh and throw different looks at the defense. I think it's very likely that we see a lot on Powell, Lindsay and Adkins at a minimum, and maybe one or two others. If you can't have one great back, see what you can do with three or four decent ones.

No.

Different skill sets, a system "rb" is the same as a system "qb."

You were probably being a smart though and not looking for a real answer.

Newcombe is a better example than Frost. Look what happened there.

Fair point but with Frost I had the Stanford pro-set experience when I was in highschool and then had to deal with him as a Nub in college.

Frost is a guy who had the skill set to thrive in a number of systems. More than anything, he was a plus athlete. I do not necessarily see that with any of the current RBs on our roster.

Didn't he get drafted as a safety and stick for a bit?

Regardless, that dude was a hell of an athlete. **** him, though. Nubs will probably fire Pelini and Frost will be their HC by the time we play them.
