He should be the focus this morning.

You guys have pumped him up ad nauseum, but the fact is he has not once shown he's an adequate Pac 12 - level coach. CSU's coaches were just so much better than HCMM and company last night, it was sickening. No ability to adjust or re-scheme at all. No ability to get his team fired up and hungry, once things got dicey. They lose their best O lineman a few plays into the game and we are totally unable to take advantage.

What can you say in defense of the job he did preparing and coaching the team?

There is no defense for the staff or the team last night. The product was very poor. They knew just what to do against us, tear the head off the defense and shove the football down the hole. The few bright spots were completely overwhelmed by the glaring weaknesses.

I am not however ready to give up on HCMM yet. I've seen repeatedly on this board what a dumpster fire the program has been, how it has hit rock bottom and how there is no quick fix. But a quick fix is what we all expect because we are so tired of losing. When that doesn't happen we are ready to bring down the axe.

I have reassessed my thoughts on this years team. I see a win against Mass. and Hawaii. Not much else is clear at this point other than I think we should be ready to dig in for a long, slow climb back to respectability. There is no quick fix for this and replacing the head coach every two seasons is not the answer either.

I have to agree, unfortunately. Like the guy but I don't think he's the answer nor his staff. Not good recruiters either.

Many questions about the entire staff this morning but not yet throwing in the towel on these HCMM. Need to see some adjustments and changes and the team needs some nasty

Agree. Woke up this morning feeling sucker punched again and decided I was going to look for a bright side. We are young...2015 or 2016 will be when we make our move. Then I looked at the commit list again and wanted to start drinking.

We were sure Jones was coming to town and when he backed out, we basically grabbed the 1st guy we could find, who had anything decent on his record. He may end up being a good coach, but he's not one now and we may need to look elsewhere in a year or two.

It appears what MM did at SJSU will not work at CU and Div I power 5 conference football.

Right, power conference coaches can only come from within power conferences. If a guy didn't work his way from player to graduate assistant to QA coach to position coach to coordinator within one of the Power 5 then they don't have the pedigree that's necessary to win at this level.

Personally I think he's done a fine job so far. How is he supposed to get 4 star guys after years and years of futility. How are you going to judge a coach after two classes when most of the guys haven't seen the field yet?

go hit az's stash and OD

Can't continue to have this new HC talk every year. CSU won the superbowl and they go to Disneyland, we go back to work.......... There will need to be staff changes to improve recruiting, but the big disappointment is the lack of development. HCMM needs to make the tough decisions to change out and improve this staff.

All last night I was thinking about how much this rivalry game mattered to guys like Dinwiddie and XJ. They didn't think a MWC team belonged with us and they went out and backed it up. Yet year after year it seems like our football team is meh about playing CSU while CSU comes out like they not only belong, but are going to win the game.

From an X's and O's and talent standpoint, we got completely dominated. I could live with that if I saw more fire from our team but they went out like they didn't care. Sefo and Gillam were the only two that seemed to want it once it got tough.

I think he can still get it done, but needs to look critically at his staff. Lindgren's play calling was questionable at times. I sat behind the CU bench and they were talking to the defense every time obviously trying to counter what CSU was doing with the power running game and nothing worked. CSU would get a 3 yard push just snapping the ball. The scary part is that tells me we were basically dominated physically. Can you imagine if we played Stanford right now? Strength and conditioning? The recruiting needs to improve with shiny new $150m facilities too. HCMM says it is making a difference in recruiting but I don't see it (yet).

Despite feeling jilted yet again this morning.... (reminds me of my love/hate relationship with my golf game....Frikin sport, DAMN!) gonna let the world turn a bit and see where we go from an obvious GAK in week one. Whatever a GAK is? Kinda similar to our lack of physicality last night I think?

My heart deceived my eyes as I was at practice and simply did not see last night coming in the fashion it did. I was nervous of our youth, but felt our physical presence would be noticeably improved. This potential exists in most positions on this team, but the blend of sound coaching and player confidence is just not firing. Have to see how they all respond to this. But I am not writing of HCMM just yet despite my sour demeanor this morning.

HCMM and his staff are still growing into their rolls at CU. Recruiting 2** players won't keep him employed very long as a Pac12 coach though.

We probably will not know what we have until we play Cal. Unless of course we somehow lost to UMASS or Hawaii (shudder)

It's too soon to write off the HC. I do hope to see other staff changes at ST and DL.

Bringing in 6 SJSU coaches should have been a complete non-starter. And yet he somehow brings in on outsider who is the weakest link (Neinas). All despite a very competitive salary pool

The recruiting looks like the classes from the end of the Hawkins era (certainly it is far worse than it was at the start of Hawkins' time here). That's not going to cut it. CU desperately needs to get away from the small-conference recruiting mentality it's exhibited over the past decade.

Many here complained when the generous size of the assistant pool was announced and MM simply imported all of his buddies from SJSU instead of going out and picking up some blue-blood assistant coaches known for their recruiting prowess. If I recall correctly, many of the guys coaching our team are getting paid more than double what they were getting paid at whatever small school they came from.

Sound familiar? It should, because Embree used the buddy system for choosing his assistant coaches, too. I understand that coaches have a network and a system and that's fine but at least bring in some people from outside.

The last successful coaching hire that CU made was Barnett. He came from a major conference. I don't think that that is a coincidence.

No one is asking for MM to recruit 4 or 5 star players. But having the majority of the class be "under the radar" types of players is going to 100% guarantee that CU remains the joke not only of the Pac-12 but of all of the BCS power conferences. Frankly, it is a minor miracle that we appear to have survived conference reorganization. It would be nice to see someone come in and run the football program who understands that and doesn't intend to continue squandering the opportunity that we've lucked into. I do not buy that there is not a coaching staff in the country that we could convince to come here that could recruit high-3* types of players to be the foundation of our recruiting efforts.

Pretty sure my "pending surprise pick" of rolling into ASU game 2-0 and make them work for it has got two chances..... Slim & None. (and Slim's got a limp)

This. MM is a good coach. We were not out schemed last night, we were out played. The DL couldn't hold the point of attack. The offense had some success before getting down by 11. We had no fundamentals two years ago, but the team has come a long way under HCMM. He needs time and the support of the fans right now.

Urban Meyer was at a MWC team before Florida. He had some success moving into a big conference. Many more examples of coaches from smaller conferences making the switch with success.

One loss this season in a game we new damn good and well that anything can happen and we are ready to crucify the staff. Sometimes I really love being a CU fan...

Defensive line needs fixed. Now.

Offense was decent at times. With more games I think they can become a solid unit.

ST's were meh. Punting was fantastic. Kickoffs were ok. FG kicking was ok. Coverage teams were about the same as they were at the end of the year last year.

+1 in turnovers is a good thing. We turned that turnover into points, also a good thing.

Being there last night it was obvious CSU's team, staff, and fan base wanted this game more. The effort from our team and our fans was down right embarrassing in the second half. Up 17-7 and I couldn't hear our fans cheer about anything, and I was in the student section. That ended up being an away game for the home team and it showed. CSU fed off that energy and once momentum swung on that goal line stand, it was a matter of time.

With 26 or 28 freshman in the 2-deep we are going to lose games, probably most of them. There is an upgrade in talent and speed, but in most schools they would not be playing this year and likely next year. THrowing to the wolves as freshman sucks. For the most part they aren't ready for this level. But you have to make due with what you have I guess.

It's easy to look back and make comments like this, but at the time of the hiring do we really know what the negotiations were? (I'm sure AZ knows all the inside on these negotiations, of course)

Was bringing his assistant coaches with him the only way to get MacIntyre? Who knows? If we refused - what were the other options? Food Cart was all but sewn up then backed out at the last minute. It's not as if there was a line outside Bohn's door waiting to come to CU. Between the Embree firing and the way people responded to that, and the lack of support for the football program and it's AD - I'd like to know who else was even interested in talking to CU. Add to that the fact that CU has been a head coaching graveyard since Barnett took the job - Barnett, Hawkins, and Embree all shut out
of head coaching ranks since they got fired by CU - I seriously doubt there was much legitimate interest in the position.

If CU had the faith to hire MacIntyre they had to have the faith to let him bring his coaches also - otherwise they should have hired someone else.

Bohn backed himself into a corner when he fired Embree and limited his search to current D-1 head coaches. There simply weren't a lot of interested candidates.

The Buffs are just going to have to let this string play out. MacIntyre will be successful, or he won't. CU can not continue the revolving door of hiring and firing head football coaches if they ever want to return to any sort of respectability. I am sure MacIntyre will re-evaluate his coaching staff at the end of the season. If he doesn't, and they continue to struggle, he (and his coaching staff) will be looking for work elsewhere.

I think the criticism in terms of coaching needs to directed at Brian Lindgren. CSU is one of the few teams on the schedule we should be able to move the ball consistently on...........and his play calling was awful last night. Defensively, I think missing on numerous recruits between Squawk and Embree through the last eight years has hurt, and I thought Gillam took a step back last night. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on MM, but I think Brian Lindgren's seat might be a little warmer after last week. Call 11 more games like the one he called yesterday, and he needs to go.

Might this be the same staff who did this?:

On December 17, 2009, Mike MacIntyre was formally introduced as Tomey's replacement. MacIntyre was previously the defensive coordinator at Duke University.[SUP][6][/SUP]

San Jose State went 1-12 in 2010 and 5-7 in 2011 under MacIntyre. However in 2012, MacIntyre's third season as head coach, the 2012 San Jose State Spartans football team finished the season with a win over Bowling Green in the 2012 Military Bowl en route to an 11-2 season record and ranked 24th in the BCS rankings
-From Wikipedia

Not just that, but they nearly upset nationally ranked Stanford AT Stanford...with a team that was outclassed talent-wise at every position against a very good Pac-12 coaching staff.Heck, I would have been mad if he HADN'T brought his whole staff. I didn't want to take a chance that maybe the staff was where the magic was and not the head coach.Based on his track record, this guy is what we need. Will he be able to do something significant at CU? Remains to be seen. But let's remember what he's already done before we suggest that we could have someone better here right now. SJSU was more "burned to the ground" than we are. We needed (and need) a guy who knows what rebuilding that means. Another Chuck Fairbanks is what we don't need (A guy who could win with a dominant team, but not a less talented one).It IS funny how quick triggered we have become around here. The original Mac NEVER would have survived the axe that many of you here wield. You would have fired him after 3 seasons.
