We take you now to Austin TX

Maybe we could pick up some defensive ends from the CU Kappa Sigs. They were always pretty big dudes.

That's pathetic.

OTOH, the way the shorthorns have handled their QB's - post radio - has been nothing short of disastrous.

Where a Fraternity League QB has been asked to come play for the Longhorns, in fact will be suiting up Saturday night against UCLA,.....my how the mighty have fallen

Two of my fraternity brothers were asked to walk on at CU it happens. Both could have played in college and turned down D2 offers coming out of highschool for injury reasons.

Texas could very well start off 1-5. Would not count Kansas in Lawrence as an automatic win.

My wife is a UT grad so if I ever want to have sex again I need to keep my laughing to a minimum, last week I had to actually get on the computer and not pay attention. She is already mad I didn't buy tickets to the thing at Jerry's Death Star so I am thinking I will watch CU in my office and close the doors so she cant hear the laughter,....... and eminent swearing I expect to have to yell courtesy of ASU

I know that A&M had been taking some of the state's best talent recently, but how can they be this devoid of solid players?

There are some great players on the team (RB, Dline, LB), but there are some huge holes too. Mack left the team in horrible shape on the O-line, and Strong's cleaning house didn't help there either. The loss of Ash to yet another concussion is huge.

Was Ash really that good though? If he is your best option by far, that is no bueno.

He was pretty good while he was playing last year. Not all conference but infinitely better than little Colt was last year. Swoops is really struggling with accuracy in a hugely stripped down offense. I hate that I know so much about these guys.

What else are they supposed to do?

Mack Brown left the cupboard completely empty.

The QB they were banking on has an eggshell noggin - and he's done for life. Swoopes is like Jeremy Weisinger - lots of flash but not much substance. Do they even have any other QB's on the team?

It's hard to fathom how badly Mack Brown whiffed on QBs over the last 4 years or so at UT given the amount of talent available in the State.

IMO Mack got lazy. Just offered the kids who had gotten on the early lists and called it in.

I'd like nothing better than for this walk-on intramural QB to be incredible. I hope he stuffs UCLA, has a brilliant career and then goes on to sell his story to Disney.

Oh, man, wouldn't the Bruins be embarrassed to get beat by this guy and his resume? Love it.

Bu...bu...but....FOUR and FIVE STAR Texas HS athletes! Top Ten recruiting rankings for years....Charlie Strong ....best All World college head coach ....EVAH!

This Un-possible!!

They have a true freshman from the HS FB Factory that is Southlake Carroll but they don't want to use him. Swoopes is from a tiny little town, the kid played 2A ball. When they recruited him he was highly ranked but I was a skeptic, I saw him play the local HS and he was impressive, but the local HS has 400 total students so his ability I sort of had to qualify.

This sounds familiar

Wasnt the ol recruit they stole from us the lowest rated recruit in their class?

Don't want to start the whole recruit ranking discussion again but it is fair to say that it may be hard to find another school who's recruits underperform their rankings more than Texas.

For a number of years Texas filled a lot of their class fairly early in the cycle with kids highly rated coming out of their jr. seasons in Texas HS football.

It may be that a lot of these kids were highly ranked because they are the early developers who also plateau early, others may benefit from having lots of talent around them.

There is also the question of the reported politics in the program. Certain players playing ahead of others because of connections to the program or of promises made in the recruiting process like with Chris Simms was starting at QB for them. As Mack got further into his time there it seemed that more hard to explain personnel decisions were being made.

I'm sure Texas is hoping the walk on's story will make the next Hollywood Football hit

They recruited their QBs under Mack through a network of his friends who are high school coaches and other alumni etc... The list of amazing college QB's that wanted to go to Texas but weren't offered a spot under Mack Brown is seriously impressive. RGIII and Johnny football are two recent ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Edit: they actually offered Griffin but as an "athlete" and not as a QB, which pissed him off so he didn't consider UT.
