Biggest surprise players...good and bad.

I am pleasantly surprised by Tedric Thompson. Gonna be a bad ass.

Disappointed in Adkins. I thought he has all the tools, but just isn't making it happen on the field.

Biggest surprise for me is how good Shay has been. A true freshman that is quickly becoming one of Sefo's top targets; great hands; good routes; quick AND fast; can take a lick and get right back up, seems pretty mentally sharp too, he's continuing to improve each week.

Disappointed in defensive unit. We've forced 1 turnover this year through 3 games. Need to have a more aggressive mindset and I think that they are getting there, but I was expecting the D to be much further ahead of where they currently are.

Surprise might be Eddy Lopez at D tackle. We need that depth and he appears to be stepping up. More excitement than surprise, I do think the tandem of Lindsay and Fields are going to lead us out of this mess in time. Two headed monster under construction. Maybe Bobo in that discussion, we shall see.

Spruce is the glue.

DB's are having a hard time early with the rule emphasis on downfield contact. They are second guessing a little bit because they don't want to be flagged. Its tough for the DB's right now.

Ted Thompson for being so young and not being a bundle of nerves playing the entire game at safety has been refreshing to see. Plays like much more of a vet. Crawley is having lightbulb moments which also encourages me.

I really like and respect Greer for his anchoring of the SLB spot all four years on campus but he has disappeared this year. Was hoping as a senior that Munyer wouldn't be getting pushed around as much. Solis should be more of a factor when teaming with Tupou.

Crawley is head and shoulders better than he was last year. Huge improvement. Kid is a player.

I wonder if the DBs are pressing things a little bit knowing that they aren't getting much pass rushing support. They have been under a lot of pressure and have done pretty well. I think they miss Bell back there a lot.

I like what Phillip Lindsay has been doing on returns and spot play in the backfield

Only issue I have is you are taught to catch with a step going forward. The best returners (and most dangerous on fumbling) almost are already at sprint when they catch the ball. He's much more dynamic than Severson and will only improve with field vision. For now we get one good one to go with the 20 yarders you sigh at since you lose 5-8 yards on those.

Lindsay has great ability and believes in the Buffs and what the team is doing. You need a full team like that. I believe MacIntyre has most of the negative group that was left either turned over or gone.

This. Crawley is playing at an all conference level right now. So impressed with how far he has come

Yup. ..he looks really good and has filled out along with playing with a lot of confidence. John walker has played decent as well

Playing better than Hendo, who could make a "disappointed" list. He's playing alright, but I thought he'd be more of a shut down corner.

I don't know, man. I saw him make a couple really athletic plays. I don't remember seeing him get beat. It may have happened, but I didn't see it. Crawley has turned the corner in my book. He's a next level player, IMO.

Hendo is never going to be that one on one all over the field guy. He is great in zone coverage and very good in quick tight space coverage. He doesn't seem to have the top end speed and athleticism like Crowley has to cover deep. Even last year when Crowley was struggling they used him on opponents top reciever for this reason. Two very different kinds of guys who if used right compliment each other well.

Having Bell out hurts Hendo though on this part of the game. Bell is(was) a safety with corner type athleticism and cover skills. He could allow a corner to play agressively short knowing that he had protection over the top. With Bell out the safeties we have out there don't have these same skills and Hendo ends up having to cover more ground.

Keep an eye out though because with Crowleys improvement it may force more action to Hendo's side and Hendo may very likely turn some of those into picks.

Surprises for me are Tedric Thompson and Phillip Lindsay.

Biggest disappointments are Tupou and Adkins.

McCartney and Gilbert both played better than I expected against ASU. Haven't heard much talk about them but I think they deserve some credit.

I think this is an accurate summary, but I'm really no expert...just a gut feel and watching some of the games.

Gotta agree with Tupou.

Hadn't been overly impressed with TT. He's pretty good in coverage, but I get the feeling he really doesn't like making tackles.

Tupou eating up double teams like a whale scarfing on anchovies. Not sure what game you guys are watching.

Surprise: KO return yards. ASU got NONE. They only had 5 yards on punt return.
Bad news: the taste of crow served to those haters catered by Toby Neinas.

that was one of the best special teams efforts I've seen from CU in a very long time. CU's return yardage wasn't bad, either.

What I'm saying is, he's been better than I expected him to be. I see flaws in his game for sure, but seeing as he was not supposed to start this season and came in and has played a competent if not solid safety is impressive.

Again, I think he's been solid but I was expecting an All-Conference type player. Maybe it's just the way it appears because he hasn't been making the impact kinds of plays (TFL's and Sacks).

I think a lot of people coming out of fall camp had oversized expectations for Tupou. He has been the best of the D-linemen but he has also been the focus of offenses. Seems like he has been constantly double teamed and teams have found it easier to go away from him a lot.

If he had more effective linemates he would look a lot better as well.

Rarely happens. Rotation generally calls for each to be on the field at different times right now. If Lopez keeps developing and Parker steps his game up maybe they could play together more often. I think they're trying hard to RS Jase Franke, he's got a huge upside but just needs time to mature.

Actually loved it when Norgard went in, you could almost feel the ASU O-line confusion: "Who IS this midget and why is he in a 3-pt. stance opposite me?"
