I'll put a poll up with a scale of 1 to 5.

1 = Elite. Type of team we once had when the Buffs appeared in 2 straight national title games, had the goods to appear in another in 1994, and probably got jobbed to not get a crack in 2001.

2 = Good. Type of team that is expected to win most weeks, can go toe-to-toe with an Elite team at times, and might see the Top 25 but not the Top 10.

3 = Mediocre. Has enough pieces to upset a good team, especially at home, but also has enough holes to lose to a bad team.

4 = Bad. Not going to have a winning season, going to get beat most weeks, and about a quarter of the season can be marked as blowouts before the games are even played.

5 = Horrible. Good teams may pull starters in the 3rd quarter against you, even at home. Fans of mediocre teams mark a win against you and are shocked if they don't win by at least 2 touchdowns. Bad teams circle the week they play your team as an almost certain victory. CU in 2012.

**************************

Where I'm at right now is that I'm confident that we've put "Horrible" behind us. We're not "Good". I think we're somewhere in the "Bad" to "Mediocre" range right now. I think I'm at about a 3.6 and I voted "Bad" because I would still be surprised if we won at Cal next week... and they look like a "Mediocre" to me.

I went with "mediocre" ... but then I'm an incurable optimist.

About 3.8

We're disappointed over a 9 point win, so we've put "horrible" behind us whether we all recognize it or not. No more losing to Sacramento State. I think we lose pretty big in most road games, but ASU showed me we can compete - especially at home - against decent (not great) opposition. Hopefully this season ends with us seeing ourselves on the 3 side instead of 4.

CU was horrible just two years ago. Last year they moved up a smidgen. I think it's too early to tell but they have
moved to 'bad' at this point. Win next week and they go to 'mediocre' ... if not then the jury is still out.

4... but I think that's okay. This is a work in progress. They have a few decent leaders.

Sefo is a good character guy who has the respect of his teammates... he's still learning though. He's got potential, but already he's as good as any other CU QB in the last 10 years. He may end up topping the record books in a year or two.

Fields and Spruce look legit. Goodson is okay, but next season we'll have a new slot guy. We might improve from that.

The running backs seem okay. Maybe they're not as good as we thought they were, but they're not liabilities.

On the offensive line, we'll lose two 5th year starters next year but we have Shane Callahan, and Tim Lynott who will probably be able to step right in and lock down the missing spots (perhaps even performing better than Crabb and Munyer). There are rumblings that Nembot may try to go pro (because he's a physical freak and NFL teams might want to try to coach him up) and that would be addition by subtraction.

Defensively they're starting to click. This team is bad right now, but there's enough good that next season holds a lot of promise.

What the **** is wrong with this board today...

9pt win that was never in doubt, good lord. The posts today you would have thought we lost to Eastern Washington today.

By those measures, mediocre. And that's an improvement.

I'd like to see the o-line play better. Like last week.

I know it's weird, but I can say "Bad" right now and feel good about it. It's a totally different feel when the bad you see is the team climbing out of a huge hole rather than the bad we saw under Hawkins when our team was falling into one. So many young guys are playing that progress is visible every week. It wouldn't surprise me at all if I ran this poll again around Thanksgiving and we saw a major shift in how people vote -- maybe more "Good" than "Bad" votes by then.

As crazy as it sounds, I see this as a positive thread. Upward trajectory is a hell of a lot more fun.

Voted 3. We are stabilizing and have some upside. Our youth may suggest more upside than some other teams. That said, we are going to have to put it together or we could get beat by anyone.....

I believe we will continue to improve under this staff despite some frustrations....

Nik, it wasn't aimed at you.

Sorry, I am just disappointed with the reaction I saw from a number of members over a damn victory.

It is obvious we are finally on the right trajectory. We are finally climbing out of the hole. IF you don't think this game gives the defense confidence, then you are mistaken. Every year since 2007 we have followed most solid performances with absolute ass kickings. The team played well against ASU, well enough to win, and then secured a victory today that was never in question in the 2nd half. Our defense played like men today. Our offense is talented but young. They made a lot of mistakes. The D is also young and made a ton of mistakes don't get me wrong.

I was impressed with what I saw in the first half out of the whole team. I was impressed with the D in the 2nd half. This game was not the let down it could have been and that is a big improvement. Bring on Cal.

You have an interesting concept of never in doubt. They were able to move the ball at times, just couldn't get into the end zone as it turned out. But at the end of the 3rd quarter I thought there was plenty of doubt. But the point is that this was against a beat up Hawai'i team that was on the road.

I said mediocre. This team has some talent, but too inconsistent. Once Sefo decides to show up every game and we stop making so many dumb mistakes, we can be good.

You should run this poll two or three more times. It would be fun to see how the responses evolve.

The only thing good I can say about the 2nd half offense is that they did get the ball off our goal line several times to get the defense some rest and reverse field position. Obviously that's not enough (not even close), but it was damn important not to get stoned inside our own 10.

btw, Is it just me or was the funkiest punting by Hawaii that you guys have ever seen, too? We were so close to blocking that ****. And, then, I was thinking every single one was a shank when it came off the guy's foot and then he got a crazy good roll that was putting Nelson in "no man's land" every ****ing time.

It looked like he was going to take off with it every punt. BTW, pretty ballsy move on our fake punt.

Mediocre, which is a huge improvement over the last 4-5 years where it was just straight up horrible. But, we haven't started the P12 schedule, so mediocre could easily turn to bad if we start getting waxed.

We were probably a couple 2nd half scores away from being solidly mediocre in my mind. We're still bad, but trending in the right direction; just have to put it all together.

I see this team on my flatscreen TV with a beer in my hand.

Couldn't resist.

I put this team in the Bad category which is a major step up from not only being horrible but being at the bottom of horrible. Working towards mediocre.

Great poll. I say between bad and mediocre. But I voted mediocre because I think we are slowwwwwwwly seeing movement in the positive direction. I think Folsom shows signs of becoming a tough place that opponents don't want to go to. Sure, we don't really intimidate anyone YET but I think the arrogant ASU fans last week were shocked and a bit scared of an upset. They didn't expect to see some fight in us. When our team makes a stand at home and begins to win games at home consistently, we will be a good team!

also, I'm an optimist but I say we barely beat Cal next week.

A mathematician. I like it. I go with my heart and drink the Kool aid too much, so it's nice to see a more scientific approach. :)

I'm betting you were not in the beer garden today. Most of those folks seemed pretty out of it and I'm betting they couldn't add or subtract at this point tonight.

Well we've played 1 game like a 5, 2 like a 4, and 1 like a 3. So... 4?

You must not have seen Eastern Washington lately. They would destroy us. Guaranteed.

By the poll's definition, we're a bad team. But we've been horrible for 3-4 years. So we're moving in the right direction, slowly but surely. Next year, we should expect mediocre.

Bad, but improving. Signs of hope and sometimes sign of despair. Happens with a bad team.

But at least there's hope. That's more than we can say of year's past.
