Is Highway 36 still under construction?

I'm coming in for the Oregon State game and land at DIA at 10:45. Pretty sure I'm ok to make the 2:00 game but what is the status of 36 coming into Boulder?

Still under construction. Its 2 lanes both ways right now though other than rush hour I have found it to be fine.

Take E-470 (Northwest Parkway). That will avoid a lot and bring you onto 36 in Broomfield. Should take you about 30-35 minutes to get there. Then you'll have somewhere between 20 and 60 minutes until you hit the light for Colorado and the stadium, depending on traffic.

Take table mesa exit, go north on foothills pkwy, turn west on colorado skip most of traffic

Thanks guys! Yep I know about that E-470 but I was trying to avoid paying the extra $25 on the rental car they charge you for that. Bottom line if I get to highway 36 where it intersects at I-25 around noon am I going to have any trouble getting parked by 1:15 or so? Just not sure if it is stop and go on 36 a couple hours before gametime or not.

It's a risk, particularly if there is an accident. Not only is it 2 lanes virtually the entire way up from I-25, there are no shoulders much of the way (concrete barriers line most of the highway). If there is an accident, it can bottleneck down to one lane.

Anyone know if I pay the $25 for that E-470 if I also pay the tolls along the way that I remember being like $5. Or do I just pay the $25 at the rental car place and then don't have to pay tolls too? I just don't want to end up spending $35-$40 to save 15-20 minutes.

Another option is to take Tower Road north from the airport up to 120th. Head west and turn right on Sable. Go North until you hit Bridge Street in Brighton. Turn L on Bridge and go west until you hit Boulder. Bridge turns into 160th, and eventually turns into Baseline Rd heading into Boulder. It completely avoids the E470 Toll and 36 construction.

its a much more relaxing drive.

This past weekend, I exited 36 at flatirons mall and took 95th south to Arapahoe and took that into Boulder. Much more enjoyable drive versus battling 36 traffic + construction. Parked right near 28th and Colorado and walked up to the stadium. Not sure of the official ending date for construction, but I think that we might battle that all the way into the beginning of next season... Can't wait till the NW line is finished up and you can take the light rail up to Boulder from Denver.

How are Arapahoe or Baseline coming into town on game day? I'd think that taking 470 to 25 then heading up to highway 7 would alleviate a lot of stress. It's only about 10 minutes longer on a regular day, and it takes 36 and possible accidents out of the equation.

Why not just take 120th to I-25 and then take highway 7 into Boulder?

A lot of this depends on how familiar someone is with the surface streets heading into Boulder.

Baseline gets funky as you're hitting into east Boulder and you make a couple turns just to stay on the same road.

I had started to post something about taking Dillon through Louisville off the 470 then heading north on McCaslin and heading in on S Boulder Rd.

But none of those alternate routes will necessarily save any time and they may cost time (or get someone lost).

You could do that or even take 104th to I-25.
I like the Brighton route because it completely takes the interstate out of the equation and hits the rural fringe of the metro area.

I-25 to 144th. 144th to 287. 287 to Arapahoe. Only traffic will be on Arapahoe as you get closer to Boulder, if any.

Arapahoe is nice. Baseline gets funky. Traffic was not bad this past Saturday.

Skip 104th. Construction zone right now.

Don't do this... this will take forever. You are much more likely to get there on time just cruising in on US36

Tower-120th-Sable-Brighton-Baseline is about 75 minutes of mostly stress free driving through farm country.

Taking I-70 to 270 to 36 is about 60 minutes under good conditions. But you deal with agro drivers and lane weavers and construction and might have to slam on your breaks when traffic locks up.

DIA to Boulder is 40 minutes on I-70 -> I-270 -> US36

I live in this area Skiddy. Tower road is not fast, and you end up pretty far east to cut across to Boulder. You aren't traveling at top speeds and there are lights and trucks galore. I guess if you think it is more scenic, then fine..... but it is not fast.

The fastest is E470. You fly at about 80 - 90 mph before hitting US36. E470 is probably a 35 minutes drive to to get to Boulder. US36 is 40-45 if there are no jams.

There has never in the history of CU game day been a lack of traffic on 36 heading into Boulder during the 2 hours before kickoff.

Let's get real. Saturday doesn't have as much truck traffic as the week days.
I think it's cool you live there. But I have flown into DIA last weekend and the one before. I took the Brighton route one time and the 36 route the next. The 15 additional minutes going through Brighton was totally worth it. Much more relaxing.

It's not uncommon for 36 to lock up, and it sucks to be backed up on 36 behind an accident.

If you are going to be worried about traffic - I would take the E470 and get off at 287, 287 north to Arapahoe and head into Boulder. It is 43 miles and about 52 minutes going that way. Easy pass is a flat fee I believe.
