OT: Bob Stoops is the best college coach over the last 15 years.

Just OT on a non-Buff Saturday. A class act and a success in so many aspects of the job.

His teams have been very good. On the other hand he has had a lot of teams that have fallen short of expectations. OU fans think they should have more NCs.

I get that some Sooner fans think that, but a 165-40 record isn't too shabby. And OU has been pretty drama-free in his era.

I wouldn't call them drama free. Joe Mixon this year and plenty of others over the years.

Also Norman should be a drama free zone for Stoops. They have proven that they are highly tolerant of what the football team does as long as they are winning.

I like Stoops and have liked OU ever since they used to beat up on kNU regularly in the old Big 8.

With all that he has been good at OU but I wouldn't elevate him to great status, With the non-confernce patsies along with the weak sisters at the bottom of the Big 12 and the resources he has available at OU winning 10 games a year shouldn't be anything less than expected.

He is 4-5 in BCS level bowls and his one NC was now 13 years ago..

His 1 title was mostly with John Blake's players. Stoops has been a solid head coach but not to the level of Saban or Carroll.

Carroll might be the best of them all. Done it at both levels.

If you are looking at both levels strong argument.

As a college coach Saban has proven himself repeatedly.

Meyer won big at Florida and before that turned Utah into a big time winner.

He has brought tOSU back pretty quickly and if he can get a NC it would be hard to ignore his record. Don't like him but respect him.

He has been a top 5 active head coach each of the last 15 seasons there but for how easy it has been to be a conference champion in the Big 12 some of those years he should have more national championship appearances and wins. He has consistent above average teams but can not be in the conversation for stand alone greatest in the game today with only one trophy. Urban Meyer beat that in a much shorter time at his first major conference job.

disagree about non-con patsies, OU has nearly always played a very respectable non con. off the top of my head, they have played FSU, Tennessee, Bama, Miami, ND, UCLA, Oregon in recent years.

hard to know what really happens around these type programs, the university and townie cops.

he gets the bulk of his talent out of Texas

That is correct. He has managed to get really good players even with a ton of competition for Texas recruits, recruiting against UT, A&M, Tech, Arkansas, OSU, LSU, etc...

I'm not a Mobile-home-a fan, but they always seem to be really, really good. Whatever Bob is doing it's working very well.

He is an Ohio guy & has been pretty successful, so good for him. Still, I don't like them (OU) & they have wasted a ton of talent, so overall f'm!

If we're talking about active head coaches in the FBS game I have to rank by hardware first, but Stoops is definitely top 5.

1. Nick Saban (4 BCS titles)
2. Urban Meyer (2 BCS titles, 2 other undefeated seasons in which his team did not play in a BCS title game)
3. Bob Stoops (1 BCS title in 4 title game appearances, 4 total BCS bowl wins)
4. Les Miles (1 BCS title in 2 title game appearances, 2 total BCS bowl wins)

5. Open for the taking. Ready to anoint Jimbo Fisher based on his current win streak that includes a title? Does Spurrier get in from his body of work in the 90s? What of Jim McElwain? Surely he's got to be in the conversation, right, Weld and Larimer Counties?

Given the choice, I'd take Saban and Meyer over Stoops. Probably Pete Carroll, too. That's it, though. Stoops is a great college football coach.

Snyder.

But Stoops has been impressive. If he'd beaten WVU and, say, Boise State, his resume would look better.

However, v. Alabama was impressive (and satisfying) last year.

In that game, Bama was singularly uninspired, wanted to be anywhere else, and it showed (as Bama earlier did a few years ago, in the Sugar Bowl vs. Meyer's undefeated Utah).

Kind of like GB's Buffs in the Fiesta Bowl versus UO.

Body of work, level of opponents = Meyer, No. 1. (Snyder played a JC sked with mostly JC players, he's certainly the best JC coach in the country.)

I suppose the conversation is about the last 15 years, otherwise I'd point out that Stoops probably isn't the best coach at OU.

In the last 15 years, as much as I hate the guy, I have to vote Snyder as #1, just in front of Saban and then that ****ing prick Carroll.

If you look at how terrible KjSU was before him, how quickly they were returning to **** when he left, and how quickly they returned to top 15 form when he came back AND factor in the number of obstacles that KjSU has that none of the other coaches in the conversation have to deal with, he seems to be the number one guy, imo.
