Volleyball vs. Washington from Seattle- 2:00 Mountain time today

The volleyball team faces the #3 ranked Washington Huskies in Seattle this afternoon at 2:00 mountain time, with it being the 2nd of a quadruple-header of volleyball matches being shown back to back on the Pac 12 Mountain channel.

Note- the Pac 12 website’s listings for the Mountain channel actually shows the CU match being the only 1 of the 4 matches NOT on the Mountain channel, which doesn’t make any sense. My Comcast on-screen guide does show it being televised, however, and hopefully that’s the correct listing.

If you can’t watch it on TV, it will hopefully be available (for folk who have the Pac 12 network as part of their TV subscription) via the computer, with the option to access the game (after cable/ satellite provider log in) available via http://pac-12.com/network/pac-12-mountain?SPSID=749577&SPID=126624&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=30200 .

And, live stats will hopefully be accessible through http://www.cubuffs.com/liveStats/liveStats.dbml?DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=600 come gametime.

(As I also mentioned in the soccer match thread I just started, I'm helping celebrate a family member's birthday today, so don't know if I'll be able to keep up with the volleyball game to update scores and what have you on this thread.)

22-23 time out. Back and forth. Nice showing on the road, hopefully they can get this set

From phone

The Buffs lose set 3 25-14 and the match 3 sets to 0. Still, must have been a good to great performance (just looking at the scores) the 1st 2 sets on the road against a/ the top team in the nation.

(I did get to watch some of set 1. A little extra heartbreaker in that one, as the Buffs had a set point, and the Huskies overpassed right to one of our young middles, who unfortunately sailed the uncontested kill a little long to keep the Buffs from winning the set (I believe it would have been 27-25). Of course, many other little plays that kept the Buffs from winning set one, as well as I assume the close set 2.)

They had the first set in hand. Second set was back and forth, don't believe anyone got ahead by more than two.

Same situation occurred in the second set. The Buffs had a set point (at 25-24, same score as in set 1 when the overpass was hit long) and Gabby served out long. I suspect both freshmen had the adrenaline going a little bit too much on those points.

3rd set was a throwaway. You don't get a lot of chances to beat a team like Washington. Buffs missed on 2 of them and that's all she wrote.

Sucks to be so close but so far so often.

On the bright side, they Buffs are playing much more competively on the road this year in conference (The USC match being the only clunker, although who knows how much of that was USC's play).

Looking at the Arizona schools who the Buffs visit next weekend- Arizona, on the road, looked horrible in getting wiped out by Oregon this weekend, but then won at OSU, while ASU followed up a good win in upsetting Oregon by losing to a sub-500 OSU team. So, hopefully if the Buffs play next weekend like they did against UCLA and Washington on the road, they might (even though underdogs against the two ranked teams) be able to earn a road win or two, which would be a great result for the 4 game road trip they're in the middle of.

Getting a win next weekend will be extra nice as, after that, are home matches against the improving LA schools, neither of which will in any way be easy wins, and both of which the Buffs are probably the technical underdogs (based on rankings anyway). Although, thankfully, the Buffs have looked VERY tough at home, so hopefully will equate themselves well that weekend.

So close but so far so often. So true!

I know we still have Taylor Simpson for the rest of this season. Lets make the Ncaa tourney and make some noise there! We can dominate the games we still have at home and upset USC and Washington at home in November!

But we will see next year if this team had been rebuilt or not. I suspect, just my own opinion, that when Taylor is gone we will go back to being 10th-12th in the Pac 12 and drop all of the away games. Not trying to be pessimistic but I'm not sure the program has turned the corner as much as it got lucky and landed a star player through transfer. I haven't really seen any news of other stars coming here other than Gabby Simpson. I hope they prove me wrong.

Taylor is clearly a superstar, and accounts for a lot of the team's offense, and is probably under-appreciated as a defensive player. However, we saw against Cal that Alexis steps up nicely in Taylor's absence (though needs to develop defensively) and almost everybody else on the court (Cierra and Edelman aside) is a freshman. I'm actually excited about the potential of this team in future years.

Thanks. That sheds some positive light on our team. It's just nice to see us competitive and I'd like to see us at the top of the conference. Stanford, Washington, USC. Why not Colorado?? Just like in football- recruit, recruit, recruit!!

Washington shut Alexis down in the 3rd set. The Buffs were never in that one, but they certainly had their chances in the first two sets. Might have been a different outcome if they had gotten one of the first two sets.
