Which coaches on our staff are considered our best recruiters?
looking in from the outside, Walters, Adams and LaRussa are the names I read about the most regarding recruits.
I expected to hear Jeffcoat's name a lot more. But, I imagine he has had some hand in all the DL commits this year.
What have you all heard about our best and worst recruiters?

Walters, Adams and LaRussa are correct.

Walters, Adams and LaRussa are correct.
Thanks Buffnik. Do you think they are on par with other PAC 12 recruiters?

It seems this staff is good at evaluating talent and works hard. I like a lot of the recruits we have on board for 2015; but we could use 2 more recruiters with the charisma to win over some blue chips.
I hope MM make the difficult call to upgrade a few position coaches with better recruiters.
CU is turning things around and wins and better facilities will; but we can only go so far with all under the radar guys. We need a few blue chips to go with all the blue collar kids.

Is this a trick question?

I feel like this is the same as asking us:

Which serial murderer is the nicest?
Which midget is the tallest?
Which Fast Food cheeseburger is the healthiest?
Which feminist gives the best handy?

Should I go on?

Don't go on, but maybe provide more detail for some of those you've already listed?

why are you so down on this staff?
it is going to take sometime to get out of the hole we were in and this staff shows signs that we are moving in the right direction, including with recruiting. Getting Lynott is great and we seem to find a lot of talented kids before the others. We could upgrade with a few ace recruiters and go from an average pac 12 recruiting staff to a top staff. This we speed up the process. I am not saying a top staff means we get the top ranked class each year. Even a top staff at CU is not going to bring in the top ranked pac 12 class. But we don't need to, if we get the right kids and develop them.
In our glory years what was the highest ranked class we had? And how often were we ranked that high?

There is no question that we have the worst recruiting staff in the Pac12, not average. This year's recruiting looks worse than lasts. Otherwise you're right on track.

Our glory years were way before they rated recruits and ranked classes like they do today, but if I had to guess we had some pretty dam good recruiting classes back then.

None of them came in with a rep as an "ace".

They're on par with other staffs in terms of the guys who work at it, have good years and mediocre, and generally do a good job on the recruiting trail.

What we are missing is a couple guys like other staffs have. MacIntyre didn't bring in an Adrian Klemm like Mora did at UCLA. I'm sure that Mora knows better OL coaches through his decades in coaching and growing up around it through his dad. Klemm got the job because Mora valued recruiting chops above all else for a couple spots on his staff. Not that Klemm's a bad OL coach, but he's a better recruiter.

What I'm saying is that MacIntyre needs to make a sacrifice or two in this area. The first thing I'd do is to remove Neinas and give LaRussa ST Coordinator. That allows the addition of a position coach who is an ace recruiter.

Our last couple of classes are ranked at the bottom of the PAC 12. No question.
We need to get more of the big time recruits. No question.
I am not sure that you can pin all of that on the staff though. I definitely want us to upgrade a few position coaches and improve our recruiting capability. Adding Hagan would be an easy upgrade for So Cal recruiting. Add one more star and would have a solid staff for recruiting. Even with the best recruiters in the nation, we won't jump from a rank of 90 (which is crap in my opinion, the Rice class is not better than ours) to top 25. It will take some time. Gradually improving our talent, start winning again and show signs of being relevant (this recruiting class was around 5 years old when we beat Nebraska 62-36).
I don't think this staff is bad; just think we need to get better to be where we want to be.

I like Mac as a guy. He has said the right things. When he said we should consider CA as "in state", I was jacked! He appears to be a decent leader. At least we're IN some of these games instead of not having a chance.

Other than Walters, I don't feel very strongly about our assistant coaches. Walters has been the only coach I've noticed that has performed at a higher level with his recruiting and position coaching.

I am nearing a point where I expect to see wins on and off the field the next couple of years or I'll be looking for the next coaching staff. I understand that we've identified unknown players and offered them, which is fine. But unless we can beat out other P12 schools for these players, we're stuck getting the leftovers and HOPING we can get lucky and develop them. That does not translate into consistent success. We may get lucky, but the 2015 class is a disappointing group as a whole.

Am I wrong in thinking that just two good recruiters would make a huge difference?

Put another way, who on this staff would you be really disappointed if we let go? Lindgren, Walters, LaRussa?

From my perspective (I've been following CU as my #2 team for ~ 1 year), what seems missing is a recruiter with recent and relevant NFL experience. This experience could be used to sell a 4* kid with the line "come to CU -- no, we're not expected to compete for a playoff berth, but you'll start and we'll get you prepared for the next step". I'm probably wrong on some detail here, but I think Jeffcoat is the only coach with any NFL experience, and that was a while ago and as a player, not a coach.

Troy Walters played in League for 8 seasons.

They still ranked prospects and recruiting classes back then. Just not to the same level and, obviously not on the internet.

I followed recruiting in the late 1980's and early1990's with a mail subscription to the Camera. Also, USA Today would list thetop classes and top 100 players. Occasionally even calling a pay per minute Buff Recruiting number to hear a recorded message about who committed where (I think that came out in the Nueheisal years). That is depressing to actually type that sentence.

As I recall, someone correct me if I am wrong, our recruiting ranking was always well below ourranking on the field. I don't recall us breaking the top 10 more than once. Werarely got more than 1 or 2 of the top 100 kids.

We had some great classes withtalent, some superstars and a lot of hard workers that developed into greatplayers; but they weren't ranked as high as they performed.

I agree 100%.

Lindgren and Walters for me. So so on LaRussa. Lindgren is still very young, and is still adjusting. The offense, as a whole, has exceeded expectations. Walters, also young, has the enthusiasm and personality to be a big time recruiter. He was the best at the position he coaches. He made it to the show. He also seems to really build relationships with his WR's.

That's my question. I recall people calling him out when he was on the staff. Who were his big wins? Not trying to bag on him, I don't really remember if he was good or not.

Hagan is widely credited for recruiting Darrel Scott. Whether you consider that a "win" or not is up to you, I suppose.

I'd add Bernardi to that list

My problem with Baer, and to a lesser extent Bernardi, is that they are in the twilight of there careers. Their career's do not hinge on whither Colorado is successful. This could lead to less effort on the recruiting front, less time spent analyzing video, etc. I'm not saying this is happening, I would just like to get some younger, more energetic coaches in there that want to make a name for themselves.
