THE GAME: The University of Colorado hosts Western Kentucky University in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Preseason WNIT on Monday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Coors Events Center.

BROADCAST:
Monday’s game will air live on KKZN 760 AM. Cory Lopez will have the call with former Buffalo and KDVR Fox 31 personality Kami Carmann with the color commentary. A free live video stream will be available through Colorado’s Pac-12.com video player. All CU women’s basketball home games that are not televised will be available through Pac-12.com at this link
http://pac-12.com/videos/university-colorado

Non-televised Pac-12 road games are scheduled to be available on the opponents’ similar video player, free of charge.

WHAT’S NEXT?: The winner of Monday’s game will play Albany, most likely on Thursday, Nov. 20, in a semifinal game. Albany picked up a 54-53 road win at Penn State in a quarterfinal game Sunday afternoon. Monday’s loser will play another quarterfinal loser in a single game on either Friday, Nov. 21 or Saturday, Nov. 22.

The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. MST and will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network.

ABOUT WESTERN KENTUCKY: Western Kentucky is 1-0 after trouncing Central Arkansas 93-57 in its first round WNIT game at home on Nov. 14. Five players scored in double-digits for the Lady Toppers which improved to 7-3 all-time in the Preseason WNIT.
Sophomore Bria Gaines came off the bench to score 22 points, in just 18 minutes, on 9-of-12 from the field. Sophomore guard Kendall Noble recorded a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Western Kentucky shot 50 percent from the field (37-of-74) and had a 2-to-1 edge on the boards (44-22).

The Lady Toppers are ranked No. 2 in the nation in ESPN’s Mid-Major poll. WKU is in its first year as a member of Conference USA and it hasn’t taken long for its peers to take notice. A long-time power in the Sun Belt, the Lady Toppers were picked to finish second in the CUSA Preseason coaches poll. Senior forward Chastity Gooch, who had 14 points and six rebounds in the opener, was tabbed Conference USA’s Preseason Player of the Year.

Western Kentucky received votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today Sports/WBCA Preseason poll. The Lady Toppers are coming off a 24-9 season in which they won the Sun Belt Tournament championship, earning their 17th NCAA Tournament appearance.

Michelle Clark-Heard is in her third year as the head coach at Western Kentucky with a record of 47-20. She is in her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach with a mark of 71-52.

Pretty certain that if you have tickets to the men's game tonight, you get free admission to the women's game as well. Not a bad way to spend the evening.

Chastity Gooch. Helluva name.
Any word in Bri? Valuable depth down low. Bummer Correal is mainly scrap minutes right now, tallest player on the roster. Bria sounds like a handful, but after the top couple, it's a lot of 6'0 combo g/f it looks like to me. Should be good match ups for Jen and Lauren.
And 2 hours between games is perfect for a few drinks. ..

WKU is a very different challenge from UND and most likely better. I expect they'll be more athletic and also very confident. They will be a serious test for the Buffs. A won would be a feather in their cap this early in the season. WKU is a good bet to get an NCAA tourney bid.

CU's top 5 or so need to stay our of foul trouble and the team as a whole needs to cut down on silly turnovers and at the same time continue to rebound well. Limiting WKU's second chances will also be critical.

If CU can get through this game, we've got to feel pretty good about our chances of winning at Albany and making the Final. If that happens, non-conference SOS and RPI should be very good on the resume come March. Tonight's a big deal.

Agreed that tonight is a big deal. The Buffs have a bit more challenging non-conference schedule than in recent season and thus have an opportunity to help themselves going into conference play.

Since I am a gazillion miles away I hope for a thorough recap/analysis by those in attendance and watching the stream.

Just started watching, and Ms. Watts is playing, so thankfully her injury must have been minor.

Note- Buffs having time with WKy's offensive boards- 2nd game in a row.

Tied at 21 with ~7:30 left in the half.

Other notes. Lexy is on FIRE. defense pretty much looks solid, got then down to 1 on the clock probably 3 times

Since I've been watching, B. Thomas looking very good, especially for a freshman. I assume being 5'5", she'll need to continue learning how to navigate the floor to maximize her effectiveness, especially once Pac 12 play starts, but she has a nice looking shot, and on a recent fastbreak showed great speed and body control on a contested lay-up.

36-35 W Ky at the half.

Edit- Hopefully altitude will help the Buff's in the 2nd half. Stats showing W. Ky with 4 players at 15 minutes or more.

Buffs have given up 8 offensive boards already.

Yeah, Brecca is a great addition. Definitely the most confident up the floor against the press. But got burned a couple times in d due to get size, one on a switch that put her in a bad spot.

Since you mentioned it, liking that W. Ky is pressing full court (and then going into a half court trap) so much after made baskets. Feel that has been an issue with the Buffs in the past, so a nice chance for them to work on this early in the season.

Concur. Couldn't break a press worth crap last year.
Terrible start to second half, can't hold on to the ball. Luckily haven't given up too much yet

Buffs falling apart right now. Can't make shots, leaving W Ky players wide open underneath the basket in the half court, still giving up offensive boards, and seemingly every pass getting deflected. 50-41 W KY with 13 minutes left.

Audio on the live stream has now gone to a random talk show discussing baseball. 52-47 W. Ky

Yes- Buffs coming back- 53 all. Defense getting tougher, and not giving up as many 2nd chances. (Audio is back.)

Tied at 55 at a media timeout with ~7:30 (?) left. Buffs give W. Ky some of their own medicine- Jen Reese fighting for 2 offensive rebounds before scoring.

As usual, lots of fouls being called. W Ky has 3 players with four, CU with 2.

62-61 Buffs. One of W Ky's main front court players just fouled out. 4:05 left at the media timeout.

1:11 to go. Buffs still giving up offensive boards, but up 67-63 with W. Ky free throws pending.

Nice break of the press a couple possessions to go. Nice pass (I believe by Kressel?) up to Jen Reese, who was able to make a few dribbles and get a 4 foot jumper.

Then, Buffs give up ANOTHER offensive rebound. This one by the free throw shooter getting her own rebound. Beard Fails then becomes 3rd Buff to foul out. Now 67 all after they lose another ball after a free throw attempt. 44 seconds left.

L. Kressel down on the floor. Announcers saying (hopefully) it looks like just a leg cramp.

Kressel to Sborov pass intercepted. Sborov has to foul W. Ky player to avoid easy layup.

68-67 W. KY after making one of two free throws. 33 seconds left.

TO Buffs with 27 seconds left.

19 seconds left. Reese is fouled. Makes one of two free throws. 68-68.

Good D by the Buffs. W. Ky only gets a bad shot opportunity. Going to OT.

Kressel with a nice drive. Gets free throws. 3:13 left in OT. 69-68 Buffs. Sborov with the offensive board and basket- 71-68 Buffs.

Then, foul on Buff's Watts. Free throws for W. Ky- Makes one of two- 71-69. But, get ANOTHER offensive board on free throw. Two more free throws. Miss the 1st, miss the 2nd. Buffs AGAIN can't control the rebound. Out of bounds. W Ky ball again.
