So, I couldn´t find a way to edit the poll in the other thread. More than 24 hours have passed since Rivals updated the coordinator hot board with the almost guaranteed final 4. They are considered to be: D Gibbs, C Pendergast, DJ Durkin, and the new one is Gary Gibbs (but Adam says we have not, to his knowledge, actually interviewed him for the role).

Unfortunately I wasn´t able to set it up to rank order, just multiple options can be selected. So my order would be #1 Durkin but I don´t think he is available, maybe Michigan bound, #2 Pendergast and #3 D Gibbs, although I am warming up to him and almost have him at a tie for 2nd (which is probably a tie for 1st given that Durkin will probably be off the board in a few days).

Well, wouldn't everybody's #1 be Durkin? Young, multiple years of experience at high profile, SEC school, and while Florida's offense was terrible, their D was one of the tops in the country. I feel like getting him and the main South Florida recruiter (and DBs coach) for UF in Travaris Robinson to replace Baer and LaRussa would be the dream scenario. With that said, why does anyone, including Rivals, feel like we have a snowball's chance in hell of landing him. Maybe I'm behind on the news but is McElwain not retaining him? There are reports that he's waiting on the UM situation (should find out in the next day or so now that Harbaugh is a done deal)? Why would he take a demotion and come to CU?

For this poll's sake I would rank them 1. Durkin........................................ 2. Pendergast 3. D Gibbs 4. G Gibbs

Durkin does seem to be out of our league. But the reason Rivals has him in our final 4 is because they were able to confirm he had a formal interview for the DC position at CU early in our search process. I doubt Durkin would do the interview if he had zero interest or just to put pressure on some other team since he is leaving Florida (which would mean more in his job search than having an interview at CU). Don´t ask me why but Sparkles is not retaining Durkin (could be a 2-way street there who knows). He hired Geoff Collins from Mississippi State.

Not sure about Durkin. Really not "proven". At Florida the athletes they have can make a huge difference in on field performance.

Cal's 2011 defense ranked No. 1 overall in the Pac-12 Conference, so Clancy. End of story (David Gibbs #2).

And bring Tosh with you man. (Duff's going to love that one)

Durkin would obviously be the number one choice but unfortunately it does not look like it will be a possibility as he will probably be confirmed the Michigan DC later today after the Harbaugh intro.

Had to look up who Gary Gibbs was. Looks like he coached the LBs for the Cowboys when HCMM was coaching the DBs there. I certainly wouldn't discount that connection.

And as pointed out elsewhere, he has the least amount of experience with just the last 2 years at Florida under Muschamp who is a legendary DC. Certainly he learned from a good one but there's always a risk that he's not quite as good without Muschamp next to him. HCMM will be able to reduce that risk thru extensive interviewing. The other candidates have much more experience.

I'm not as excited about David Gibbs. As for Durkin, not sure if he has worked with building a defense with so few stars. David Gibbs seems great. Pendergast seems great but unlikely.

so when do we know? The longer it goes on, the more I wonder if we are being rejected? Is david gibbs our 4th choice since the other 3 maybe turned us down or were enticed to go elsewhere?

i hope we know today. Any chance?

I would have been interested to see our chances at Durkin had Harbaugh not taken the Michigan job.

Pendergast would be an instant improvement to our defense and would be a hire that turns some heads. But David Gibbs would still be a very good hire in my opinion, and reading about how he preaches turnovers at UH and has turned that defense around shows he brings something that is sorely needed.

and doing this with about the same types of recruits

Do people want to see a quick hire or make sure we get the right guy?
There is no wrong hire among at least the top 3. Start at the top and press each one for a decision until you have a contract.

Gary Gibbs doesn't fit MM's description of a younger guy.

I want to see us get our top choice. If that takes longer, then fine. I don't want this to drag out because we have to settle for a lesser option (in their eyes).

I was thinking the same thing. We were early to interview him and I think the interview happened before the Harbaugh to Michigan thing came to light. Perhaps he was legitimately interested in considering CU but obviously he wouldn´t if offered at Michigan.

I dunno about that. He's had a lot of hand holding, the least amount of experience, I think the SEC defense isn't all that big of a win, cause really, it's not like they're defending against quality QBs like the PAC. Also, he may have recruiting chops in the south, but does he have the ties he needs to blend with the skill to be successful in the west? He seems iffy to me like Bobo seems iffy. I'd rather have Pendergast or Gibbs (younger).

Can anyone sell me on Gary Gibbs? I've read his bio and just not excited about the possibility.

I'd be thrilled with any of the other 3, probably with Pendergast being my 1st choice.

I think aside from our traditional impatience (I have it too) there is of course a concern that we lose our best candidates if we don´t pull the trigger soon. Now, we don´t know what is going on behind the scenes. Who knows, maybe we even have a tentative deal with someone like D Gibbs and it is being kept quite until after he finishes the bowl game. If it we were that far with Pendergast there would be no reason to wait.

Good luck finding someone to sell you on G Gibbs. He seems like a somewhat better version of Baer. I haven´t seen anyone on any forum make an argument for him. Hopefully he is only a backup option if we don´t get one of the other 3.

Gary Gibbs, why not Bob Simmons while you are at it? I remember the Gary Gibbs era at OU, uh, no thanks.

Pendergast, Durkin, D. Gibbs, in that order, please.

Are there two Gary Gibbs in the world?

I assumed the Gary Gibbs being considered is the guy who was the defensive coordinator at OU back in the 1980's, who eventually went on to be the head coach at OU, and has since primarily been working in the NFL, most recently with the Chiefs.

But maybe there is a different Gary Gibbs?

Same guy. He was a DC in the SEC before moving on to the NFL.

No clue personally. Only thing I know about this is that Adam from Rivals said it was possible to know by end of week. One theory is that we actually have a shot at Durkin if he is not selected by Harbaugh and we are waiting for official confirmation of that. But of course as someone said above, Gibbs may in fact be our real target and he is also apparently coveted by TT and has interviewed recently.

Maybe just maybe there will be some action in the next few days in part based on what Durkin does.

Ok.

Probably a little old and I'm not sure how much of a recruiter he is. Very solid x's and o's coordinator, though.

Seems to me the #1 choice should be Pendergast, given his experience in the Pac-12 and his success there. What position can Pendergast coach?
