Sacky Talks Tight Ends (and recruiting - from McNamara Recruit thread)

Perfect example of how tough it is to recruit Tight Ends. This kid [Taylor McNamara] was a 4* national recruit and he totally washed out [at Oklahoma].

I think you're better off recruiting big receivers and trying to put some weight on them. Or canibalizing your hoops team for their power forward.

Edited by buffnik for clarity. We don't want hokie to hurt his head.

This! Only drawback is you're probably not getting a blocking TE from the hoops squad. Not saying bball players aren't willing to block, but they completely lack the technique, talent, experience, etc to be effective run blockers at a big time level.

Prototype TE- I have to agree 6'5" or above and must have a background playing basketball.

Fantastic.

No idea why he went to OU in the first place, they quit using TE's when Wilson left for Indiana.

Let's get this thread back on track.

We can start a new thread if people are that interested on who from the basketball team would make a good football player. I'm sure goose would love to have that thread in the hoops forum.

*********************************

I remember being hopeful that CU would land McNamara when we got the visit and he was coming with Shane Dillon for the weekend (those 2 were friends).

Definitely worth a second look as a possible transfer. I assume he'd sit out 2015 as a redshirt and then be a junior in 2016.

Also of note, Inglewood WR Derrick Woods was dismissed from Oklahoma for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. He's got the talent to be worth a look. Could be a Toney Clemons situation with a guy like that where CU is able to get production that wouldn't have been predicted off what the guy did at his former school. In the same class (2012) as McNamara.

Why bother getting the thread back on track? This ship has sailed, and I sincerely doubt CU would have any interest in the kid, and vice-versa. I was enjoying the discussion on canibalizing our hoops team for a tight end.

At some point, even a recruits thread is fair game. If he makes any indication that he would like to come to CU, or if we hear that CU has an interest in him, then I can see cleaning this up.

Because it is a recruiting thread in the recruiting forum and this could be a recruit - i.e. the ship has not sailed. Slow your roll.

Edit: moved so sacky can wax poetic on his topic. I would have put it in the basketball forum, but Goose scares me. He moves slow, but like a reptile. Those ****ers are just luring you into a sense of security until the they strike.

for us slower members at Allbuffs who've only followed the team 2 years, did you want to maybe at least hint as to who "this kid" might be?

Tyler McNamara. This thread is split from a recruit thread.

got it, thanks.

thread splitting might not be my favorite part of Allbuffs. I understand why mods do it, but it makes it hard to follow (unless something obvious that lands in the island). maybe start the forked thread with a explanatory post by the mod with a link to the start of the conversation?

edit: or parenthetically indicate in the thread title! sorry, missed that when I posted my question.

Are you saying the Mods are ****ty?

I don't think it's asking too much to find more production from likely the worst TE unit in the conference

No idea why he went to OU in the first place, they quit using TE's when Wilson left for Indiana.

Same story as it always is in recruiting, lot's of blowing smoke up some kids skirt.

"Sure son, we only threw the ball 8 times to the TE all last year but that's because we didn't have a TE like you. When our offensive coordinator was a peanuckle state his TEs caught 93 passes and 24 TDs one year, that's what we are looking for with you. And you noticed that we have been in BCS level bowls 3 of the past 4 years, you can be the guy that moves us to the national championship level and be a number 1 NFL draft choice if you come to our school."

Of course they don't mention that the OC has no interest in throwing to the TE any more, only did it because he had to, and they have 3 kids ahead of the recruit and some 4* and 5* RBs that the TEs are going to be spending lots of time blocking for as glorified tackles.

Throw a good sales pitch at kids and it is amazing what they will believe in the recruiting process.

Mods, please create a new thread for this thread Jack.

Nice going, Hokie.

this is about the time when CU should have a Embree recruit at TE going into his Jr season ... you know... that ex HC who specializes in said position
