Aaron Bettis - a kicker to keep an eye on.

Westminster played Boulder last Friday. Westminster has a kicker who was kicking the ball through the uprights on kickoffs. His name is Aaron Bettis. He's a sophomore, so he won't show up on any lists yet. Very, very impressive.

Good find. Here are some Hudl clips.

Right now, he's taking more steps before kickoffs than most top kickers do; but he's a sophomore and is doing whatever he is comfortable with, most likely. That's the sort of detail a kicking coach would sort out in a few sessions.

The Post's prep stats are not helpful, it shows he attempted two field goals and made three of them. Unlikely. No distances listed.

If correct, he does have good size: Height: 6 feet, 5 inches. Weight: 200

Also plays wide receiver. Could not find any reference that he also plays soccer, which is a little unusual for a H.S. kicker.

I found one game summary (From Oct. 7, 2014) with this mention:

Then, with 3-minutes to go in the period, the Wolves Aaron Bettis kicks a 37-yard field goal making up for his missed extra point. Unfortunately for the Wolves, though, it would be their final points of the game.

I don't think Westminster trusts their center/holder combo very much. Against Boulder, they went for two on every score except for the very last one, which the holder proceeded to fumble the ball.

Bettis has a cannon for a leg, though.

I'm pretty sure they kick from the 35, but I'm not 100% sure. Even if it's from the 40, kicking it through the upright is impressive for a sophomore.
