Holland indefinite suspension

Article isn't out yet but suspended indefinitely due to October sexual assault allegations per BDC tweet.

Not something that CU can afford. We have had enough of this issue arise. Sick of it. Even allegations like the slander campaign of the early 2000s killed this program.

Hoping it is nothing but as we all know even if it isn't it is really ****ty bad publicity.

"suspended indefinitely" from the team, the school's athletic department confirmed Wednesday.Holland, a freshman from Arvada, is no longer enrolled at CU, campus spokesman Ryan Huff said. Due to federal student privacy laws, the school did not specify how long ago Holland was unenrolled.

nothing else CU can do but move on ..yes it's bad PR but doubt this gets much worse

I normally like to be "light hearted" in posts. Nothing to be "light hearted" about here. This really pisses me off.

All the problems of a big time program, without the reward of being a big time program. Such is life with CU football.

CU did the correct thing so not really bad PR. This type of crime is not highly unusual in a college and suspension is normally the result. The PR nightmare begins when the college tries to hide or protect the accused student.

Bad PR would be keeping him on the team, like Jameis. Nothing about this is positive, but if CU handles it correctly, as it appears they are, they could send a clear message that these actions won't be tolerated.

yea it really hurt fsu

Darius will get him on path. Its been along time, but he seemed to have his act together. Hope his Don and this young lady both are okay.

CU has done nothing wrong. The bad PR is for the average Joe who hears this on the news or sees the article and immediately blames CU without reading the whole article.

Didn't hurt their recruiting. I bet it's hurting undergrad applications. I'm not sure I'd feel safe about my kid going there knowing that he could get the **** beat out of him or she could get raped and if it was football players who did it that the police, university and local DA would sweep it under the rug. I can't be alone in this.

It is going to happen from time to time. When you have 100+ college kids a certain number of them are going to do something stupid.

Seriously, Digger, Calm down. This type of thing happens at every program, at every level in the entire country. If you want this program to be "big time" again, get used to this sort of thing happening. The best athletes in the country aren't choir boys.

I think some of our fans are sensitive to this based on how the Denver press totally blew up the 2002 incident. It was 2002, wasn't it? At any rate, for some reason, the Denver media and Boulder culture can take something like this and possibly blow it way out of proportion. Wouldn't happen in Lincoln or Austin, but it does here.

That feels like a pretty slippery slope.

The big difference was the implication that the program was trying to get recruits hooked up with co-eds in 2002, when alleged assault was committed. And the University did settle a lawsuit related to that.

I don't believe that football talent is correlated with criminality. Incidents happen every year, whether the team is good or bad. You get 100 single guys living on their own for the first time surrounded by thousands of single women and near-unlimited access to free booze... you're going to have incidents whether we're talking fights, DUIs, theft or sexual misconduct.

I do believe that if the HC makes a concerted effort to recruit players who are focused on making something of themselves in football and in life that you'll be able to minimize the problems. Having guys who genuinely care and building a culture and environment around them that sets standards and cares about them is what you can do. It's the best you can do.

And, btw, to have players of that character and a culture that cares in this way there is absolutely no restriction on where you recruit and the appeal of the program crosses all boundaries.

I know it happens, it's not just a football thing. This is a college lifestyle thing. People get drunk and people push the line in college and Holland did.

Plenty calm, just sucks to see this **** happen. Sexual assault cases are always made bigger for athletes.

never. This is completely unacceptable. This sort of thing (football related or not) cannot be tolerated if the allegations are accurate.

This is what happens on college campuses. Don't like it, wish we could do something to stop it, but it happens.

Take any randomly selected group of 100 college males (or college age males for that matter) and track them and you will have a certain number of incidents involving substances, violence towards others, sexual misconduct, failure to do academics (or work if not in school,) reckless behavior, etc. Lack of judgement plus lack of experience plus opportunity not being under direct parental supervision gives you this kind of thing, has nothing to do with being an athlete.

I would venture a guess with no statistical evidence to back it up that if you closely examined the marching band, the chemistry department, etc. that the rate of incidents is fairly close to the same. The difference is that student-athletes find themselves in the paper instead of quietly being removed from school. Take the same age group working and living independently or even in the military and you would find similar incidents, maybe more.

We also can't ever simply excuse it because of youth. This particular allegation is the type of behavior that can impact the girls life for a long time. Even though similar things will happen again we have to deal with it in a way to reduce it as much as possible.

Nominated for silliest post I've ever read. That's plain dumb. Big difference between a choir boy and Sexual Predator.

I never said it's acceptable or that Holland should even be given a 2nd chance, if he even makes it through this without jail time. What I said was that this sort of thing happens at every big time program around the country and it's something that is going to happen here as the program gets bigger and better. Look at how many suspensions and dismissals Georgia has had over the past 3-4 years. I didn't say anyone should look the other way or these kids shouldn't be kicked out or punished when something like this happens. My point is that it's nothing new to this program or any other program in the country. I apologize if I truly offended anyone with my original post.

I understood you. We deal with legal issues even w/ choir boys. It's the nature of college life unfortunately.

It is a statistical fact that choirs have a higher rate of deviancy than athletes. If you want to learn about deviancy, hang out with the choir or the animal husbandry classes. There is some messed up stuff going on in those circles.
