Jim Leavitt hired as new Colorado DC

To repeat my initial reaction:

My thought is that it's a big boy hire. He did a great job for the niners at LB this year. Hall of Famers and All pros go down or don't come back, and they kept plugging guys in who performed well. Excited to see what he does with our LBs.

Already? my god people

Impressed with what he did a USF... let's hope our D can make some big jumps.

Curious if this will result in further staff changes.

Prior to becoming the head coach at South Florida, Leavitt worked under legendary coach Bill Snyder at Kansas State from 1990-95. Leavitt served as the linebackers coach for two seasons before becoming the defensive coordinator. He was instrumental in building a Wildcat defense that improved from 93rd in the nation in 1993 to the number one ranked unit in 1995.

While Leavitt opens some opportunities in Florida, he's also well-known in the SF Bay area to help up there and was born in Harlingen, TX so he adds some Buff cred in the Lone Star State.

He's 58, which is a little bit older than I was expecting. Still, the positive is that he's probably going to be here a while where a younger guy might see this as a stepping stone.

Snyder's coaching tree is always money for coordinators. So many good coaches cut their teeth under him during his first run there.

"He was fired up. He grabbed somebody — I think it was (walk-on linebacker) LaDre Watkins," senior safety Nate Allen said. "He headbutted him and fell backwards. I couldn't help but laugh, because that's the best one I've seen. … We were fired up about that one."

The Bulls scored a touchdown on their first drive of the second half, then Allen intercepted a Louisville pass on the next play, setting up a field goal and a 27-16 lead.

"I just heard about it when I got back to the press box (after) halftime, and they said, 'Did you see Coach Leavitt,' " offensive coordinator Mike Canales said. "I said, 'Why, what's wrong with him?' 'He's bloody.' I thought, 'Oh, golly, okay.' … That's Coach. That's who he is. You know what you're getting, and the kids love it."

Chris Borland comes to mind. Guy definitely helped develop that kid.

We need good defense now. Age is not an issue.

It's a good day for the Buffs! Well done HCMM and RG!
