He'll be replaced by rece Davis.

i figure he has enough on his plate and wants to cut back and focus on his play by play role.

Mistake, IMO. On Gameday, he has become the face of College football.

Same could be said for Musberger from his time on The NFL Today, then he only replaced Keith Jackson as the voice of college football for this younger generation.

Im sure he's made some nice coin. Good luck to him. It can't last forever. Besides, Im sure he's tired of dick pics behind his head and goobers on the set.

ESPN loves it some Rece Davis.

They've been dying to get an SEC guy on that broadcast. That's mostly what this move is about.

This. He has increasingly done play by play and is pretty good at it, IMO.

What about Corso? He needs to be put out to pasture....

Even in our hayday CU would be playing Southeast Louisiana Tech Community College and all Corso could muster was "Gonna be a close one. Colorado by a field goal." The dick just couldn't admit we were going to smoke someone. I haven't let go of that. I hope he dies with some infection he gets from Holtz's slober

Why? He's entertaining as hell.

I have trouble with his stammering, I feel bad for him. I think they should give him a segment at the end, put on the head gear and all that, and call it good. It's not like they haven't added another 3-5 people already to fill the air time. I don't need to see Corso trip over some stats while Kirk laughs at him.

I think it was on one of the threads here, but If they're going to be replacing Fowler, they might as well replace Corso- I'd do it with Neuheisal. I've listened to him on Sirius and he's 10 times more interesting, intelligent and entertaining than anyone they could put into a "coach" role on that set.

This is a good move for Fowler's career. He's going to be calling the biggest games every week for as long as he wants.

Also, I've always wondered if he secretly hates Herbie.

You know what? As much as Holtz and, to a lesser extent, Corso annoy me... at least they're entertaining. Is anyone entertained by Mark May? David Pollack? I would rather be peeved than bored.

Mighty low bar Nik. Can't we have higher expectations?

CU is represented really well in national sports media...Fowler, Cutter and Klatt come to mind immediately.

Fowlers role on Gameday is a tough one, long day with lots of travel in addition to his other responsibilities, can see him wanting to get out of the grind.

Another factor is that he has always worked hard to maintain his role as a serious journalist and not get tied up in all the silliness that goes on. Over the years Gameday has continued to go further and further down that path making it hard for Fowler to keep from "getting in on him." I could see him just getting tired of it after this long.

And the odds are 99-1 that the next guy they bring in will either be an SEC guy or a Longhorn guy. That is how they work.

Rece Davis has an expiring contract and there were rumblings CBS might want him to replace Uncle Vern, so ESPN had to sweeten the pot a little. And Chris Fowler has a ton on his plate. Before last season even he talked about the double duty of hosting GameDay and doing play-by-play for the prime time game and it didn´t sound like he thought it´d be a long term thing.

Aaaaand Rece Davis has signed an extension to his contract with ESPN until 2021

That's not my recollection at all. I remember him exuberantly talking up CU in the early days of Gameday, especially when they were on campus in 95. I also remember him saying that CU was the number one team in the country one fall morning in 1995, whereupon CU promptly went out and let the ****ing Jayhawks run all over them en route to Skippy's first loss.
