Who plays right away:

Who redhsirts:

Which 3 guys make the biggest contributions as a Buffs:

Who plays right away: 3 Immediates (Carrell, Kinney, Baltazar and/or Carr), Robbins, Laguda and maybe Falo due to what we have heard (though his highlight tape made me think he needs a RS since unless he is told to rush he seems to not make best first step choices for a LB)

Then Redshirt the rest.

Carrell will be used heavily in pass rush situations. Kinney has to be solid from the start. One of the 2 RBs needs to shine (Gordon needs to RS a year I think). Laguda and Robbins both are just contributors, but not impact like main 3.

Plays right away: Baltazar, Carrell, Robbins, Laguda, Kinney

Who redshirts: Everyone else

3 biggest impacts: Baltazar, Carrell, Kinney

I'm just excited to see who shows up and takes a spot. First year in a long time that the Buffs go into a season (assuming full health) where not a single true freshman is being counted on to play major snaps in the 2-deep. We need Kinney to punt. Other than that, every frosh could redshirt. It's nice to know that if one of them wins a job it will be based on merit rather than need.

I think Kinney, Carr and Falo all see significant playing time. Not a lot of quality depth at those positions.

Been a very long time for sure. Someone will step up and take a job. These are good things.

Carrell, Kinney, and one, two, or all of the RBs. Hope Baltazar's knee issues are behind him. Both Gordon and Carr are potential stars. With no disrespect to last years RBs intended, CU may have just signed next year's RB rotation.

Considering next year's expected small class, I can see Balthazar playing to fill last year's RB void, and either Carr or Gordon redshirting for more class balance - a back in each class. I'd like to see Montez redshirt unless he somehow is clearly the stud in fall camp, which is unlikely.

Redshirting Carr or Gordon should be the goal.

I think all the Juco guys play including Baltazar plus Kinney and 1-2 DBs.
Carr (OT Gordon) plays if he is an upgrade even if it's just STs.
We need W's and cannot have weak spots. The competition will have increased and that will sort some things out.
Can Adkins get back to the trajectory he had his 1st year?
Can the other RBs step up or have they been recruited over?

Totally agree here, any doubters should watch his Hudle video again! Man that foot needs to set
with out any issues. 206 bones in the foot...

Much more impressive, but I doubt it is anywhere on the web to go back and watch, was his performance in the Texas HS state championship game which I was able to watch.

Watanabe was playing with the injured foot but you could never tell it. The opponent had a 4* athlete at QB and a number of other D1 and D2 athletes. Watanabe was killing them. He showed a great football sense, read and reacted to the plays almost like he knew what was coming as soon as the play started. He showed great burst to the play, used his hands well to quickly shed blockers (again including some quality prospects) and when he got his hands on a ballcarrier they went down, and they went down where he hit them.

I think we got a steal with him, if he had been a couple inches taller and not had the foot injury I think we would have had to be very lucky to keep him away from a top 20 program.

The only question, and this is a big one is if his foot is going to hold up. Unfortunately way to many times once foot injuries start you never get quite right, and you can't play on bad feet.

On the surface, a starting LB corps of Watanabe, Gillam and Falo sounds pretty solid. Problem is that two of those guys have never played a down of college football, and the other one has injury issues. Not much behind those three, either.

He was definitely recruited to play right away, not as a long-term developmental upside guy.

Watanabe comes in built like a brickhouse. He's ready to play and (if healthy) we will not be able to keep him off the field. He's also itching to show his stuff. Timid is not in his vocab.
I think he's one of those guys that college coaches look back at and wonder why on earth they were looking at his height. His frame has already allowed him to be very well put together.

Yes there are names, what have they shown they can do.

Rippy has serious questions about effort and desire, KO is athletic but has shown questionable football sense, Severson is undersized and has very little experience, Gamboa? Talianko? Shaver is a good athlete but is he a good linebacker?

I hope that they can find a couple of quality guys out of that group, raw talent is there. Until they prove they can do it though we shouldn't count on them just because they are on a roster.

It will be fun to watch how Leavitt and Tumpkin motivate the JAGs, and if they can turn on a switch or two. Desire and understanding for the game can go a long way in turning around a football team. Rippy may be the best example of a guy who can excel under the right coaching, and Gillam and the rest can only benefit from the coaching upgrade.

I'm pretty interested in what will play out in terms of the LB corp this spring.

Lots of question marks and lots of opportunity for kids to come out of nowhere or make position switches.

If we could land a break, and I am pretty sure we are due :devil2:, perhaps we could outperform low expectations at linebacker (s). Big if, as LB is probably Buffs biggest question mark this off season.

Place kicker will also be a concern until proven otherwise. Things to work on before the Rainbows.

Linebacker reinforces why it's so important to recruit every position group every year to build depth. 2 starters return, but I think most fans were higher on them going into last year. Injuries to Gillam turned our best defensive player into a huge question mark.

What about Laguda making a switch from S to LB? With a little added weight (listed at 203), he would fit the profile of the more athletic LB needed in the 5-2/3-4 Under. He would also fit perfectly, as is, being one of the hybrid S/LB in the 3-3-5.

I'm optimistic that Gillam can return to his old form - if:
1) He recovers from his concussion issues
2) Stays otherwise healthy
3) Is able to get his weight back up to a healthy playing weight and stay there

Hmmm.... looking at that list, I may be more hopeful than optimistic...
