Oregon billboard in Denver

Hello, I'm a UVA fan that due to several recent ski trips to CO has become obsessed with the state and I've decided to adopt the Buffs as my second favorite team (so yes, both of my teams pretty much are terrible right now at football...haha). I've always kind of liked CO from afar and remember when you guys were pretty big time and all the games at Folsom, etc. Best stadium in cfb.

Anyhoo, on a ski trip a few weeks ago I was driving west on 70 and saw and Oregon billboard. I can't remember exactly what it said, and I remember being slightly confused as to what it was supposed to mean. Was it a taunt, etc.? I wouldn't put it past them to do something like that. Does anyone know what that is about? All I could think about was how enraged I would be if UNC did something like that in Richmond or Northern VA.

Best of luck to you guys from afar, and maybe someday I'll convince the wife to let me move out there!

Cheers!

Thanks! Yeah, to be more specific....it's in the area between the sort of industrial type area north of downtown and the foothills area near Golden. I know thats a large swath....but its the area that seems to be more of an older type neighborhood area. There appeared to be some sort of old amusement park or roller coaster on the south side of 70 in this area too....it was right near there.

I don't think it was for online degrees, but maybe.

I have seen 3 billboards up so far. Just advertising for the university and to get applicants.

Have seen the signs around a few locations. They are just advertising in Pac 12 country trying to spread their alumni. I work w/ and know many Oregon alums. They like CO for some reason.

When I lived in LA for a couple of years in 2001-2003, there was a couple of big Oregon boards with "new football graphics" by the 405 towards LAX. Looking to expand their territory, recruit both students and athletes I supposed..... Seems to be part of the overall plan for the University.

Since Ducks will all be in Boulder soon, would be really nice if we can make that a good football game! Make a much needed grand upset* if we might be entitled someday ;). Just sayin...

*gotta win the non Conf games most importantly, before upset contemplation's ....

I'm a Buff in Charlottesville. UVA did it in Charlotte a decade or so ago.

The one I saw was for the University of Oregon (not online degree), and it was somewhere on I-76 just north of Denver. I didn't like it then, and if I wasn't 100% lucid, I would've questioned it's existence myself.

Other than football and architecture that schools has literally nothing going for it. I'm surprised they don't advertise more.

Hokie, gonna show the new guy around?

Ahem. He's safe here.

nice message board name. As I've said to CVille a number of times, I think UVA is a fantastic liberal arts school with a beautiful campus.

Buffs are amazingly tolerant regarding fans of teams they don't ever play, and following CU has been a blast for me. They're amazingly tolerant of ACC discussions on their message board too.

you should be aware that standards of conduct on Allbuffs are pretty high compared to ACC message boards though -- name calling, insulting other members and in general being a jerk will get you kicked right off this board.

Good luck with your hoops season.

I think Oregon has started an aggressive advertising/recruitment campaign.

A couple of weeks ago, I attended the mandatory college counseling meeting with my son at the high school he attends. During the meeting, the counselor has a single page sheet with universities listed in tiers--you know, Tier 1 includes Princeton, Tier 4 includes Borough of Manhattan Community College. As she talks with my son, she highlights some of the schools and after the meeting she tells him to go check them out on the internet. So my son says he interested in the West Coast and she highlights some Tier 1 and Tier 2 schools in California and than says, hey, what about Oregon, they've really been reaching out to us lately. It took her a while to find it in Tier 4.
