2 signees, 1 spot: speculate on who may leave in this thread (Update - It's DT)

We're not going to keep the speculation off the board, so I'm trying to contain it here rather than seeing it pop up in numerous threads - including recruit profiles.

So, here goes.

Based on 1 scholarship senior graduating, there was 1 opening for this class. Tad has accepted 2 verbal commitments. That means someone is leaving.

Also, it should be noted that Fortune and King were both redshirting this season for separate reasons. Both are expected to compete for roles and minutes for the 2015-16 squad. So that's 4 guys being added into the rotation and only 1 guy lost from it. There is a good chance that a number of players are not going to like what they hear regarding their anticipated minutes/role next season.

Further, it's no secret that this year's Buffs were a huge disappointment. Chemistry issues were apparent on the court and went beyond speculation to fact based on the inordinate number of partial or full game suspensions we saw this season. Also, injuries threw things off. There may have been cases of some guys playing through injuries while the team/coaches felt that others were being soft about injuries (speculation on my part based on knowing how often that happens).

Without further ado... do your worst.

Looks like Stalzer's lost his interest or focus on being a major college player. Also looks like if he is back minutes are going to be few and far between for him. If he is as passionate about the music studies as rumors indicate he would be a logical choice.

It seems conceivable that Stalzer could graduate and not be back, especially if he stayed in Boulder for the summers and took classes.

I took my son for autographs at the beginning of the season. XJ responded with "gotta make the money" when I asked if this was his last year. Ski came over the top of him with "He'll be back" FWIW. I don't think XJ showed enough to think he should skip his last year anyway. I would guess Eli

If it's Eli, I'd be shocked if it was related to him graduating early. Considering how hard it is for a music major to finish in 4, the idea of a music major / varsity athlete finishing early is incredibly unlikely. If Eli is gone, it won't be because he is done with school.

I hope one of the guys isn't Tory Miller. He sure didn't play much at the end of the year, and since he's only played one season, maybe he's thinking about the rest of his college career.

I hate speculating and rarely do it, but since that's what this thread is for and I have't seen him mentioned at all, I figured I'd throw this out there since it's come to mind.

Stuff was definitely going on with XJ this year. He'd have transfer options if he decided to leave.

Word is that Eli is graduating this year.

If anyone on this year's roster was intending to go pro in the summer then they received Jeremy Green Stanford-level bad advice.

Commented on this in Thomas' thread. Sorry.

Akyazili is going to take Talton's minutes. Stalzer or XT would be the most logical but Tad has shown repeatedly that he won't run anyone off for not being effective.

It's either going to be somebody graduating early (stalzer) or somebody transferring (XJ). Really hope Eli brought a lot of AP credits to Boulder.

Stalzar could also be because he wants to focus more on school. I would imagine its hard to play the piano and play basketball jaming fingers at the same time.

I could see him wanting to focus on school his last year.

Could also see him transferring to a mid-major or smaller school where he could play a lot more if the school has a highly respected music program.

XT is also looking at a lot of bench time next year. He could find a non-P5 program where he could be looking at a lot more opportunity if that's what he's interested in.

Why are people thinking XT is going to spend so much time on the bench. Who is going to take his minutes? The Belgian kid? Tough for a freshman to take minutes from a senior. Even XJ couldn't take minutes from Chen.

Chen was a much, much better player than Talton. If the new kid can play defense, he'll get a lot of XT's minutes because is terrible on D.

Pure hope.

Akyazili isn't a typical incoming HS freshman, he has been playing international ball in Europe with and against much better players than HS kids are used to, even in the best AAU leagues.

Combine this with the evidence that Talton hasn't developed like you would expect an upperclassman to do. Is he a better basketball player than he was two years ago, does he provide that leadership and stability on the floor that you expect from an upperclassman.

Chen was physically limited but he played like an upperclassman, he provided leadership and stability.

If XT is getting minutes next season for CU is will be because he has taken a big step forward in his game, the kind of step he didn't take this year.

On the other hand Akyazili has already been in that leadership position. With returning wings we have next year plus the addition of the transfer there won't be minutes for him at the 2. With a more experienced Dom and the addition of Akyazili I don't see many available minutes at the point either.

I just dont see any of the current juniors transferring? Why sit out one year so you can play one more at a new school? I have a feeling that it's one of the sophs - but no idea who.

It is not unprecedented. Didn't Carlon Brown do that?

My guess here is that Eli is graduating. Talton puts in the work every off season and I believe he's one of Tad's favorites. Don't think Talton will be leaving. Dom and Tory will be staying.

Two guys that I love and that have so much potential, but couldn't deliver on a nightly basis were Wes Gordon and Jaron Hopkins. If the Coaches are serious about raising the standard and put serious pressure on these guys to raise their game, maybe one of them bails. Gordon lacks assertiveness, is pretty solid defensively, but does have a few lazy lapses. Jaron should be a defensive stud and he is not, and that is disappointing. I almost blame the coaching staff for Jaron not being better on both ends of the court.

I honestly can't see that happening. I could be wrong, lord knows it wouldn't be the first time, but the music school is designed for kids to take over 4 years usually. Maybe it's different with piano (less ensembles than the rest of us had to take), but if Eli can pull that off I would be seriously impressed.
