Dustin Thomas has left the program

Hmmm. That's a weird one. Thomas got some minutes this season and his offensive game seemed to be moving forward. Had some problems on defense, mostly because of early fouls.

Yeah I don't love this, I wonder if its part of the whole "stay for the summer" thing. DT, XJ, and Ski were the guys who left.

****...I was really starting to like DT...best of luck wherever you go!

Always liked DT, but there was something "off" about his game: came in as a shooter and flagged at that and never got the message about early fouls, many of which were not aggressive, but just foolish.

Didn't like that he went home last summer and have to think the "Stay in Boulder " edict bugged him to the point of leaving.

Interesting. Dustin wasn't on my short list of "who might exit." Had playing time, seemed generally liked by the coaches.

For what it's worth, Tad has said on numerous occasions that he has full faith and trust in his assistants and that some of them are ready to be head coaches right now.
Granted, Tad is the leader and in charge, but there can be player/assistant interactions that play a role in what is happening.

Regarding the "players need to stay in the summer" thing. I know it was brought up and seems to linger.
At the same time Ski was outspoken about players not being committed and putting in the time.

Thus I'm quite surprised to read here that Ski was NOT here last summer. Hmmmm. What gives?

Tad made the announcement (publicly) about requiring the players to stay in Boulder March 4th. The two games prior to that announcement Dustin played 23 and 11 min. respectively. The two games after March 4th he played 3 min and 8 min.

Those two games were also against UDub and WSU - very small teams that don't have a lot of bigs. It was a matchup thing. He played 18 minutes the game after those two and 14 minutes against Oregon.

That's a drag. I liked his aggressiveness on offense, something sorely lacking at times on this team. He had his foul/TO issues but he certainly wasn't regressing, unlike others.

Best of luck, DT.

Not sure about this. The first time Buffs played UW- DT 29 minutes. The first matchup against WSU- DT 20 minutes. Might be more to it than matchups.

First time we played UW Robert Upshaw was still on the team he was one of the biggest post forces in the conference. They were 14-5 with him in the line up and were great at defending the rim and much better scoring in the post. W/out Upshaw they were 2-10

I liked DT's effort and although he had yet to come anywhere close to fulfilling the promise we had hoped he had, I also doubt he's being asked or nudged out. A change of scenery might be a good thing for him. Wish him the best.

Yeah Upshaw completely changed that game we played against them. Our guys were really timid to attack the rim with him there.

Taking a year to work on his shot, ball handling and defending with fewer fouls will help him a lot. I think he will have 2 good years where he ends up and wish him well.

So I was watching some of the ACC tournament a few days ago and a guy kept getting fouls while standing there with his arms in the air (and I immediately thought of Dustin). Well the commentator said, he needs to put his arms behind his ear. And then went on to explain that if you stand upright and your arms are not vertical, they will call a foul on the defender. So I would need to go back and watch, but Dustin probably tilts his arms toward the defender. It immediately made me think of two things: 1 - this should have been coached out of him a long time ago. 2 - Bill Walton is entertaining but kinda sucks as a commentator. Sure I learn about volcanoes and the history of the Yucatan peninsula. I don't learn a lot of basketball things from him.
