practice bubble activity (i think)

in the last week about 20% of the dirt parking lot (the western portion) between the Dal and the practice fields has been blocked off with a temporary fence with a gate big enough for construction vehicles.

the part of the practice field that has the sport turf surface has been blocked off with an orange, rubber "chain link" fence.

so, i'd surmise things will get underway once the Bolder Boulder and Mem. day weekend pass.

Either that or the work you're seeing is part of the prep for the Bolder Boulder itself.

i thought about that. and they also re-dirt and pack that lot from time to time...but i went with the bubble theory since the fence was up around the turf surface itself inside the practice fields.

i could certainly be wrong.

I certainly hope not. We need it and for this fall.

in a post i made before about it a few weeks ago, we got an email in CU fac/staff/family housing that construction was set to begin. and with details that the foundation or "footprint" would go in starting in May. and the actual bubble will go up in October and come down in April. i'd be shocked if it wasn't a "go" for this fall....though i have seen some pretty unusual building schedules at CU that seemed to be executed at really weird, bad, or inefficient times.

and i did talk to a guy who was doing the initial surveying.

it could be Boulder Bolder stuff (the blocked off part of the lot), but we'll see if the fence comes down Tuesday.

Lets hope it is the footprint or start of it.

today, on my walk to King Soopers, i had a closer look. the turf around the entire area of the sport grass practice field is folded inward...so i'm going to say that work will be starting in putting the "footprint" (poured concrete foundation around the field, i'd guess) here purdy quick.

Geat to hear. Keep us informed.

here's the text of the original email, dated May 2:

The construction of the bubble on the athletic practice fields will begin on Wednesday, May 9. This construction will be for the footprint/foundation only. The actual bubble will be erected every fall in early October and will remain in place until April 1.

Work hours will typically be 7a-6p, Monday through Friday. There may be need for occasional work on Saturday. If I know in advance of Saturday work, I will send out an email.

Please contact the Family Housing Office if you have questions or concerns.

it's happening. there are a couple earth-mover type vehicles and they've been working around the edges of the turf field all last week.

This thread is useless without pictures!!!

OK, not useless, but a few pics would be nice also!! (Pluuuuuuuease??):smile2:

i'll see what i can do in the next few days. there's not a lot to see, really. the bubble itself doesn't go up until October. though maybe i'd guess they'd give it a dry run before practices start.
