And the schedule is complete.

http://www.cubuffs.com/pdf9/3645009.pdf

Of CU's 8 non-conference matches 5 are in Boulder including the home opener v Colorado College in the Colorado Cup on Sunday, Aug. 23. CU opens at CSU Friday Aug. 21, also a Colorado Cup match.

Conference play begins in Boulder with a big one, v Cal on Sunday, Sept. 27.

This season CU will play 5 conference home matches and 6 on the road. The Washington and Arizona schools will be in Boulder this season.

Conference play ends at Utah on Friday, Nov. 6.

Once the Buffs get a permanent* home they need to be sure it comes with lights. The final two Friday home matches kick-off at 3 pm local time. Not the best time to get butts in the seats.

Oh, and it seems that for the first time there will be an admission fee for home matches as the official schedule announcement has a link to a page for soccer season tickets (which begin at $25). "Season tickets start at just $25 for general admission and are on sale now by vising CUBuffs.com or by calling 303-49-BUFFS. Also, new this year is the Women’s Sports Pass, which gives you general admission seating to all home soccer, volleyball and women’s basketball games for just $125. Purchase your Women’s Sports Pass today online at CUBuffs.com or by calling 303-49-BUFFS to save over 50 percent off the single game price."

* My understanding is their current home, Prentup Field, will some day be developed as part of the surrounding research park and thus they aren't going to commit to putting in lights. Where they may get a more permanent home is on the current location of the football practice fields just north of Folsom Field on the north side of Boulder Creek. They may share this home with the women's lacrosse team.

Can't wait for the fall season sports to start!

Outside of those excited by in-state rivalries, looks like the BYU match will be the highlight of non-conference, given the Buff's beating them in the tourney and all. I'll have to see if I get BTU TV.

As the years go on, it would be fun (and maybe help prepare the players for Pac 12?) if the Buff's start to play one or two of the more elite teams (No. Carolina, Florida State, Virginia, Penn State, even Texas A & M level) in non-conference, but maybe they feel the Pac 12 schedule is tough enough (and does enough for RPI) so they don't need to do that?
(Looks like BYU, at #22, is the only ranked team, or team receiving votes, that the Buff's play this year in non-conference from last year's last Top 25 vote. In RPI, looks like the Buff's non-conference opponents this year had an average RPI at the end of last year of only 141, with only 3 (BYU- 56; Nortwestern- 61; Colorado College- 84) being rated in the top 100 (Buff's ended up #36).)

I really like Prentup field, but this is a good plan. What would happen to the track and field facilities though? They put a lot of money into that a few years ago to host the big 12 championship.

Here's all the RPI's from last season for the Buffs non-conference schedule:

• @ CSU #277
• Colorado College #84
• @ Brigham Young #56
• New Mexico #140
• Cincinnati #132
• Iowa State #149
• @ Denver #189
• Northwestern #61
• Villanova #183

And as noted, CU ended at #36. So, it would seem all the non-conference games are winnable. Highlights of course will be the Colorado Cup matches + BYU and Northwestern.

In terms of CU scheduling a North Carolina or Florida State, I am not quite sure CU's ready to play with them, but who knows. They are starting to hold their own with UCLA, etc., in conference play so maybe they are.

The conference portion of the schedule is indeed hard enough to help with getting at-large bids and preparing CU for the NCAA tourney, but I think it wouldn't hurt to play a few teams in the top 25 RPI wise in the non-conference.

its a pretty weak non-con

Great question which didn't come up in the impromptu conversation I had with an athletic department employee. If the track and field facilities can't remain in place I don't know where they would go. That is, where would be room elsewhere on the campus? As far as I know the athletic department hasn't got to that point in their planning for the future.

The grass at Prentup is always in great condition. I would bet it is in better shape than most in college soccer. But the rest of the facility is lacking in terms of amenities for fans and players. I keep harping on the lack of lighting, but there's more to it that that.
