First of all, Trey Lealaimatafao is a talent. Army All-American and one of the top DT prospects in the nation in the 2014 class. He originally committed to UT before LSU flipped him.

His time at LSU was riddled with problems.

The initial incident was around the end of June / beginning of July of 2014. He received a misdemeanor citation for theft after he took a bicycle. LINK

Then, that he punched through a window in the weight room. Some of you may remember the story. Initially, there were fears that he'd need to have his arm amputated because he was cut so badly. It ended up not being as bad as initially feared (even though it cut his bicep so badly that they could see the bone) and he was recovered by October. Missing that time was the main reason that he redshirted. LINK

But the big incident is the last one. In June of 2015, Trey was involved in a fight outside a bar in Baton Rouge. Allegedly, he knocked a guy out, went through his pockets and then punched his girlfriend. Arrested and charged with robbery and battery. LINK

I couldn't find confirmation that this has been resolved through a plea or dismissal, but he has since transferred to Arizona Western. Trey seemed to dispute the accounts of what happened that night and claimed racism.

ONLY BLACK GUY that goes to help KO'd man up... Drunk WHITE girlfriend swears he's getting robbed.. Think about that #WakeUp

So where does this leave us? Clearly, this is someone who could help the Buffs and anchor the middle of the 34 in future years. It also seems pretty clear that he has struggled with decision-making and anger issues. But the other part of this is that Les Miles is a coach that maintains a good relationship with CU and the CU football community as a former assistant here who we have traded grad assistants with in recent years. I'd have to assume that if CU is recruiting Trey that it means Miles said that he's a kid who is worth the risk of a second chance.

I think I need to hear the actual report of what happened in that bar parking lot before I form an opinion here. It sounds bad, but he turned himself in to police a couple days after the incident and there haven't been further reports I could find about the charges moving forward, being dismissed, or being pled out.

He certainly deserves his chance in court, but man that doesn't look good. Maybe the coaches know something we don't, he did manage to transfer very quickly.

This is a sensitive subject since CU has been burned in the last decade by losing plenty of players due to fighting situations. Yes, it happens at most schools, but with injury issues and personal reasons causing attrition and the poor depth that we've had, we can't afford to lose all the scholarships we have to players who have been lost for behaviorall reasons. While I'd like for Trey to have learned from his mistake, our history with players fighting off campus suggests we need to tread very lightly regardless of talent. Having Tupou in trouble recently for this kind of thing makes it difficult to want to even consider.

That's a weird story. Some other guys beat a dude unconscious and then this guy goes through his pockets. Unless he was with the first group, that's not a robbery--not good, but not a robbery.

I trust MM to do his homework on the kid.

This. MikeMac can make the determination of whether to give the kid a second chance. If we offered, then I assume he thinks the kid is worth the risk. Fine by me. Go get him.

He was going thru his pockets in front of numerous bystanders. Think about it.
