2015 Preseason Depth Chart

Not a lot of surprises. Perhaps Moeller starting at FS is one, but he's been solid. Awini starting could be another. This defense will be interesting to watch this year. In Leavitt we trust.

Jackson starting and Carroll starting over Sampson are a bit of a surprise. Especially Jackson, did not hear much during camp.

Agree on Jackson, but I've heard really good things about Carrell. But as MM has said, guys rotate in and out so much, depth charts don't mean a whole lot.

Also, no surprise, but Yuri and Rippy continue to be no shows. Too bad, but time for them to move along.

A few "shockers" to me...
  • Awini @ #1...maybe I shouldn't be shocked as he's my breakout player for this season.
  • Watanabe @ #3 surprises me a bit, guess I thought I was hearing better things out of camp
  • Adkins #3 also surprises me a bit...but I realize he'll get lots of carries.
  • Jimmie Gilbert @ #2 also surprises me a bit.
None of this is bad...it means we have some depth finally and for certain the #2s will get a ton of playing time...especially on D.

Wow, it's interesting to see Yuri Wright so far down on the CB depth chart. Remember when we snagged him away from, who was it--Michigan? Not many on this board would've predicted that 3+ years ago...

I guess we can officially label both Rippy and Wright as busts now. What a waste.

Leo Jackson starting is surprising to me. Not a lot of glowing reports on the guy coming out of camp. Might have to do with his size. He's a bigger dude, and might be able to take up a couple blockers.

I think Awani is going to be on the field a lot.... a la TCU style defense

I really like 280+ pound d lineman, those 3 are going to be asked to eat blockers.

Yeah depth chart isn't accurate at all. Jackson and Tippy won't be first team, and we won't be using 4 down linemen.

Jeez, I had no clue we are still so damned young! I assume that's a good thing.

Moeller and Ross definitely the minor surprises.

Also, it's the first time I've seen a complete list of the 12-person leadership council:

4 Chidobe Awuzie, CB 21 Jered Bell, S44 Addison Gillam, ILB 74 Alex Kelley, C, 23 Phillip Lindsay, TB 13 Sefo Liufau, QB, 95 Derek McCartney, DE 33 Jordan Murphy, FB77 Stephone Nembot, OT 31 Kenneth Olugbode, LB 46 Christian Powell, TB 22 Nelson Spruce, WR

Well, I mean as far as seniors go. I didn't realize we'd have so many of the 2 deep back next year. I'm excited about that.
Mac calls us a soph/junior team...very small senior class has a lot to do with previous coaches IMO.

Mac said next year we will be the "oldest" team in the Pac. That coupled with a very favorable home schedule, not bowling in 2016 will cost Mac his job.

In this 4-3, Awini has to be on field to cover and tackle in flats and outside hooks. I don't see McCarthy and Jackson being good drop guys, especially Jackson.

I think the susceptibility is up the middle on direct runs. 44 and 31 seem like scrape LBs as opposed to hole fillers. Maybe Solis can occupy C and G, freeing ILBs

Who comes off the field on N1 and N2?

So awesome for Moeller. From all reports he has earned.

We will be using a multiple defense, so I don't think the D depth chart is probably all that accurate.

Interesting to see Ross listed #1 in the slot role. My guess is they move him all over the field to get that speed out there. Starting to get a little excited for this team.

Have no idea what to interpret regarding the kickers. Looks like a disaster if we are still not sure who we are using.
